Ben's Point of View
Today has been a disaster and the day is far from over. After talking to Ben I walked over to the training ground and spoke to Alex and Michael about meeting the alpha and me in the morning. After arranging a time I linked Rick and then headed to my office.
I had a desk full of paperwork but instead of working, I couldn't stop thinking about Tess. The look of defeat in her eyes broke me a little.
'Go Check on her,' my wolf said.
'She needs time. '
'No, she needs us.'
I thought about what my wolf said and decided after ten minutes of debating to go and see her. I walked up to her room and saw Trevor a warrior standing outside her door. He is an amazing warrior and I wouldn't trust anyone to watch over her except myself, Rick, Alex, and Michael.
"Beta," Trevor said as I approached.
"How is she?"
"I am not sure. She has not left the room since I arrived."
"Okay."
I walked up to the white door and knocked but she never responded. I waited several more seconds and knocked again but nothing. I grabbed the handle and tried to open the door but it was locked. Since I was the Beta I had one set of the master keys to all the rooms in the house and I opened the door.
As I walked in I saw Tess laying on the bed with the blanket over her head and my heart broke again.
'She is in pain,' my wolf said.
'I know,' I said. I could feel some of her pain through the bond.
I walked up to her bed and sat down next to her. Putting my hand on her I said, "Tess can we talk?"
"Go away," she said with a sad voice.
"No honey. Let's talk."
"Just go away."
"I can't. I can feel your pain." As I finished saying that Tess quickly sat up and removed the blanket from over her. She stared at me with anger in her eyes.
"Why do you care? Why does it matter what I feel because clearly, you don't want me," she screamed.
"I do care Tess but we can't be together."
I ran my hands through my hair and sighed. 'Tell her why,' my wolf said.
I looked into Tess's eyes and they were now glowing red. "Tell me," she demanded.
"Because I am expecting a child with your half-sister." The look of shock then hurt that crossed her face made me feel guilty.
Tess stood up and walked away. "You need to go."
"I can't, " I whispered.
"Why?"
"Because I need to make sure your okay," and this caused her to start laughing.
"I will never be okay. My mom and people are dead. My father doesn't want me but the kicker of it all is that my mate the one that is supposed to cherish and love me is sleeping with my sister and is expecting a baby by her. I will never be okay."
"I'm sorry Tess."
Her eyes grew to a deep red and she said, "you're sorry. You're sorry. You should have waited for me but you didn't."
I had nothing to say and my wolf was whimpering in pain. He wanted his mate and he knew we could never have her. I stood up and looked at Tess one last time before walking to the door. As I reached for the door handle I said, "I am truly sorry." Then walked out.
As I walked out of the room and shut the door Rick stood there and the look on his face spoke volumes. He heard what was said and he was not happy.
"Mate. She is your mate," he said through clenched teeth.
As I walked away from the door and down the hall with Rick behind me I said, "yes."
Suddenly I felt him bunch me and I tumbled into the wall. "What the hell."
"That is for being a shifty mate."
"I can't be her mate. I am with Layla."
"So you're going to reject her?"
"Yes, when things calm down." I felt my wolf's heart shatter at my words and he howled in pain again. I hated hurting him.
Just then Rick smiled and said, "good because she is mine." And I watched my best friend walk towards her room leaving me standing there.
I couldn't handle any more drama for the day so I went home to have a beer. Once I walked in the door I could hear Layla talking to one of her friends and I just rolled my eyes. She was complaining about her father losing the gamma title.
"Hey babe," I said as I walked into the kitchen. Layla was sitting at the kitchen table with a coffee cup in her hand and two of her friends at the table.
"Hey. Did you talk to Rick about Daddy's title?"
Sighing I looked at her and said, "Rick will not be giving him the title back."
Layla's face turned red and the cup in her hand shattered causing me to quickly get to her. She was bleeding. "What the hell Layla. A title shouldn't mean this much to anyone."
"It is my birthright. My title and because of that no good knock-off child she took that away from me."
Macy one of Layla's friends handed me a towel and I started to wipe the blood away and grab glass from her hand. "You need to calm down. She came here because her mother died and hunters killed her people. She needs help."
"What do you mean by hunters killed her people?" Macy asked.
"Tess is half wolf and half siren. Hunters have been hunting her kind for years and she is the last of her kind. She came here to meet her father and hope he would help her."
"My father is not her father. He would have never slept with a low-life creature like that."
"DNA states otherwise and you need to reevaluate the way you think. She will be staying here and perhaps if you can push all the hate you have towards her aside you might discover someone you like."
"I will never," Layla said.
After cleaning up her hand and hearing her complain about Tess and the gamma title I grabbed a beer and went to my bedroom.
