Have you ever seen that movie the Wickerman? Well, I have, and my life is like that movie but not. You see, just like in that movie, the women in the village seek out men to impregnate them and then leave. Why you might ask, well, my kind was dying. We are Water sirens, and I am the last of my kind. What is a water siren, you ask. Well, let me explain. Water sirens are supernatural creatures that like to live in water. We sing and feed off the energy of those we enchant with our voices, but there is a downfall. If the water siren is good, they can bring luck and prosperity, and if we are bad, well, we will suck the soul out of you. Since many of my kind are good, humans have hunted and killed for our blood. As a result, no female has given birth to a male in over two hundred years, and slowly my kind was dying until the hunters attacked us. It was a cool June morning when the hunter arrived. We had just moved to this lake a few weeks ago, and everyone promised not to sing. Instead, I woke up to the screams of my family and to the smell of smoke. As I got up out of bed, my mother ran into my room and opened my window. "I want you to run. You know where to go. Be safe, my little wolf," She said as she kissed me and pushed me out onto the roof. We had practiced what I was to do in case the hunters came again. I ran across the roof and unto a tree before anyone could see me. I climbed up the tree and jumped onto another tree branch. I sat down and watched as the men dragged my family and friends out of the house, screaming. They tied them up and then began to drain the blood out of me. I watched my mother as the man cut her skin, and she looked at the tree I was in with fear in her eyes. I sat in the tree as she instructed me to do, and as I watched her take her last breath, I silently cried. I stayed in the tree for a full day, and when I thought it was safe, I climbed down. I grabbed the backpack my mother had stashed in the tree and started to walk away. The men had thrown the bodies of my people into a fire and left. It took two days for me to get to the closest city, and before I walked out of the woods, I changed my clothes and touched my hair up. I didn't need anyone asking questions. I knew what to do, and I walked over to the local bus stop and got a one-way ticket to Telluride, Colorado. After I got my ticket and departure time, I walked over to the diner across the street and sat at a table by myself. "Welcome to Mary's Diner. What can I get you to drink?" The bubble waitress said. "Water. Lots of water, please," I said as I looked at the brown-headed woman. "Sure thing. I will be right back with that." I didn't even need to look at a menu to know what I wanted, and when she came back, I ordered cinnamon french toast and a side of bacon. While I waited for my food, I pulled out the folder containing information on my father. The first paper had the basic information on him. Name: Dallas Ward Age: Thirty-five Mate: Veronica Ward Children: Layla (17), Joe (15), and Drake (10) Species: Wolf Rank: Gamma I knew my father was a wolf because I was half wolf. My wolf and I could talk to each other, but I had yet to shift. My half-sister Layla and I are the same age but a month apart. You see, most supernatural pregnancies only last four to six months, and my mom had disappeared before my father found out about me. He did, however, meet his mate a week and a half after meeting my mom. My mom had paid a supernatural detective to keep tabs on my father, and now I am happy she did that. After that, I was alone in the world, and I just prayed he would accept me. After eating my breakfast, I went back to the bus station and got on the bus a few hours later. I was scared and nervous. When I boarded the bus and we took off, I took a deep breath and let it out. Three days and I would meet my father. Ben's Point of View When Layla turned seventeen, I prayed she was my mate, but she wasn't. I was crushed because we had been dating for the past two years, but we decided to stay together. Since I was a year older than Layla, we decided to wait to have s*x until she was sixteen, and about six months ago, she decided it was time. So we used condoms, and a couple of months ago, one broke, and here we are today looking at an ultrasound of our little one. Layla is four weeks pregnant, and since we are wolves, the average pregnancy lasts about six months. As we walked out of the doctor's office, I grabbed her hand and kissed it. "What do you think your parents will say?" "I am not sure, but I would like to think that will be happy." "I want you to move in with me," I said as I squeezed her hand, trying not to think about her parents. "You know dad won't agree to that. He is angry we are dating, and I am not looking for my mate." "What if we talked to Alpha Richard?" I asked. "You think your best friend can stand up to my father. You are so silly." I knew she was right. Gamma Dallas was a force to be reckoned with, and he is still standing in as Gamma until his son Joe turned of age. I just prayed that he would understand our point of view and support us, but I had this gut feeling that something was coming.
