**NATALIE'S POV**
“You've got to be kidding me, mum!” I snapped, glaring daggers at the dude who stood before me. His face switched from shock to a smug look in seconds, and I couldn't help but feel annoyed.
“You two seem to know each other. Have you met him already?” Mum asked and I nodded.
Yes, he's somebody who is nothing close to being a gentleman and rude. I refuse to accept an impudent human being like him as a stepbrother.
“Alright then, I'll leave you two to talk and get to know each other better. Feel free with him, Naty. He's a sweet guy.” Mum smiled and walked into the kitchen while I scoffed.
Could this day get any worse? How on earth was I going to put up with this jerk? Here I was a few minutes ago, happy over the fact that I was finally going to see my stepbrother, but then, it turned out to be the jerk that broke my phone.
He plopped down on the couch and crossed his legs as he looked at me. “So, you're my step-sister, huh?” He snickered and my fists tightened. “How wonderful! Now it'd be easier to tame that little mouth of yours,” He winked at me, and I couldn't understand how I felt that moment.
Was it the way he said it, or his facial expression, or did it sound like he meant what he said differently.
I scoffed and sat down with my hands folded. I had no idea why the universe would be this mean to give him to me as a brother.
“You know, siblings are supposed to hug to welcome themselves, right?” He asked and I narrowed my eyes at him.
“Do I look like I'm in the mood for that? If I had the chance to choose, I'd have traded you for something else immediately mum introduced you as my stepbrother.” I scoffed and he smiled at me.
I watched him, not sure what was funny in what I said. I was being serious here, and he's smiling?
“Natalie,” He called my name softly, and I looked up to meet his eyes. He held my gaze for a while before looking away. “You owe me a hug, though.”
“I owe you nothing!” I snapped with a scoff.
“Look, I'm trying to be a good brother to you, so the least you can do is cooperate with me. I know we didn't start on the right foot, but we can make amends. If it's about your phone, fine, I'll help you fix it. I can even get you a new one if you want, I can get you a hundred phones if you want as well, so stop being grumpy for once. I have no idea how someone as tiny as you would have a mouth like a hippo.”
What the heck?
“Did you just call me a hippo?” I asked and he chuckled.
“Don't you talk a lot?” He teased and I pulled my hair in frustration.
I placed my hand on my forehead and tried to calm myself down. We sat in silence and anytime I looked at him, I always caught him staring at me. Hadn't he seen a girl before? Why the heck was he staring at me like that?
I sighed and looked away from him. Dinner was served and mum made me sit close to him at the dining table.
“I'm so happy you like her, Maguire. How would you describe your sister?” Mum asked.
“Tiny and cute.” He answered without looking up.
I huffed. He would do anything to get on mum's good side. That's why he's acting nice.
“How about you, Naty?”
“Huh?” I blinked.
“How would you describe your brother?” She asked, and I could see his ears perk up to hear what I was going to say. I wanted to be sincere and tell her he's an annoying freak that tried to flirt with me, but then, I didn't want mum to think I hated him, so I said the first thing that came to my mouth.
“Average.”
He dropped his fork and looked at me.
“Average?” He asked, and I nodded, showing no interest in continuing the conversation with him.
After dinner, mum retired to her room, and I was left in the living room with Maguire. He left the living room, and I guessed he had gone to his room, so I left for my room too.
I entered and was about to close the door when a hand blocked it. I was shocked to see Maguire standing in front of my door, shirtless, with a long black trouser that still looked good on him.
His abs were left for me to see for free, and I shook my head to shake off the temptation.
“How may I help you?” I asked with my hands folded.
He smirked. “Someone called me average during dinner, and I wanted to confirm from her directly if she meant it or not.”
“Are you that pained?” I scoffed and rolled my eyes.
“Yes, I am because you clearly didn't check me out well enough.” He answered.
“I don't want to check you out, so leave.” I tried to close the door, but he held it again.
I frowned at him, and instantly, I could see his eyes darken.
“Well, since you do not want to check me out, how about I check you out instead?”
Before I could say “boo” he had entered the room, and the next thing I knew, my back was pinned to the wall.
“What are you doing?” I snapped at him.
“Checking you out,” He answered plainly and trailed his fingers down my cheeks. I couldn't help the tingles that followed every of his touches. I tried to move away; I didn't like this one bit, but it seemed like I was rooted to the spot.
“Let go of me. You shouldn't be doing this. You're my stepbrother.”
“Does it matter?” He asked and I gasped. “It doesn't matter because I want you.”
That was totally unexpected. After saying that, he walked out, leaving me to reminisce over what he said.
The next morning, I still couldn't get my mind off what he said to me. I dressed up and went downstairs to see mum with him. When our eyes met, I saw something flicker in his eyes and looked away immediately.
“Good morning.” I greeted and mum pecked my cheek.
“I have good news for you,” Mum held my hand.
“What's the good news?” I asked, trying as much as possible to avoid Maguire's gaze.
“So, I spoke to your father before he left for work this morning and also spoke with Maguire and both approved of it.” Mum smiled at me.
I was confused.
“What was approved?” I asked.
“You and Maguire are going to share an apartment.”
Say what now?
What the heck did she just say?
Maguire was at my back and used that opportunity to whisper into my ears.
“Welcome to hell, my sister.”
