MAGUIRE'S POV
Her breath hitched the minute those words left my mouth, and she turned to look at me. I winked at her, but she turned, facing Mrs. Naomi, my stepmother.
“Mum, I—”
She tried to speak but was interrupted.
“You do not need to worry. It's close to school and you two could go together every morning, since you're in the same department. The apartment is beautiful and has two rooms, so don't worry about your privacy.” She explained, but Natalie shook her head.
I loved the look on her face right now. She looked like she would give anything to escape sharing an apartment with me. I had no issue with sharing an apartment with her at all. Besides, it was like a dream come true for me.
Something stirred within me after our encounter yesterday, and I found myself being drawn to her. The way she snapped at me for breaking her phone and everything about her just left me wanting to know her deeper.
I was rude to her because I didn't like how I felt then, but then, she kept doing things to annoy me and that seemed to be the reason why I couldn't get her off my mind.
I became heartbroken the minute I realized she was my stepsister and tried to keep whatever was going on within me at bay, but it wasn't working. She was too tiny and innocent, like she would be blown away by the wind if care wasn't taken, and that ignited a feeling of possessiveness within me, and one thing was clear to me,
I saw her, I liked her, I want her, and I'm going to get her.
“Mum, I don't want to share an apartment with him!” She snapped, her eyes literally throwing lasers at me.
“You have to, darling. Oh, before I forget, I asked him to be your private tutor. You need to do better in your academics, and he'll help you achieve that. That's one more reason why you should go.” Naomi smiled at me and I reciprocated it.
Natalie looked like she was going to pass out.
“I refuse, mum! I'm good at Literature and do not need his help. Don't do this to me.” She pleaded.
“Your grades from high school are going to affect you here if you don't sit up. Do you think Literature is the only thing you'll study? There are a lot of borrowed courses from other departments, and you must do well in all of them. The semester is already far spent since your admission came late, and you have to catch up. Maguire is a top student and can help you, so please cooperate with him.” Naomi pleaded with Natalie, and I could see her resolve weakening.
She looked at me and, with a sigh, nodded her head. I had no idea why I felt delighted that she finally agreed, even though she had no choice in the first place.
“Maguire will help you pack your things after school,” She pecked Natalie's cheek and faced me. “Please, take good care of her for me. She's my little nugget.”
“I'll take perfect care of her, Mrs. Naomi,” I smiled and she sighed. I knew what she was expecting and bowed my head in apology. “Mum,” I called, and she smiled, giving me a peck too before leaving us. When my father got married to her, I found it hard to accept her at first, but she came like an Angel and filled the space my mum left in my life. She showed me love and affection, and I had no choice than to accept her.
I sighed and faced Natalie with a smile on my face.
She scoffed and stormed out, while I followed her. When I was able to catch up with her, I blocked her path. “Hey, slow down. Let's take my car.”
“I don't want to see your face, scram!” She snapped.
“Too bad you have to see this face day and night because we're flat mates now.” I smirked and she stopped walking.
“Let me give you a heads-up, I'm pretty good at karate, and I won't hesitate to break your bones if you try anything funny with me. The only reason I agreed is that I want to make mum proud, so don't feel too important because you were asked to tutor me. And do not try the nonsense you attempted with me yesterday because I'll aim for your face first!” She threatened, pointing her index finger at me.
Even while angry, she still looked cute. She was doing things to me without even realizing it.
“Let's go,” I wrapped my hand around her shoulder and led her to where my car was parked, ignoring her protests. While I drove us to school, she just looked out of the window without talking to me, and I let her be.
As soon as I stopped the car, she came down without saying anything and walked in. I sighed and rested my head on the car seat, wondering if what I was feeling was right or wrong.
If I had known she was my stepsister from the beginning, I wouldn't have fantasized about her feeling pleasure in my hand.
I wanted to stay in the car and rest for a while before stepping out, but suddenly remembered something. The students usually pranked freshers on their first day. It was like a tradition to them. They would splash cold water on them and then spray them with paint to welcome them to the school. It was obnoxious but no one said anything because, well, this is a university and no one cared.
They didn't do it to Natalie yesterday, no doubt they're going to do it to her today. I stepped down and rushed into the halls. There was no one there, but I could hear noises from the other side of the building.
I rushed there and saw the students gathered in circles, buckets of water and paints in their hands with Natalie standing in the middle, already drenched from head to toe.
My fists tightened, and I couldn't help the anger that coursed through my veins. They can do something like this to other students and I wouldn't give a f**k, but not to Natalie.
They got ready to spray her paint and I yelled, “Stop!” They all turned in my direction. I stormed to where they were and stood in front of her with my hands folded.
“What do you think you're doing?” I frowned at them.
“Step aside. It's a normal thing we do to freshers.” One of them answered.
“Not in her case. You dare not let a single paint touch her, else I'll show you what it means to be dead while you're still alive,” I looked at them, my gaze menacing. “Anyone wanna dare me?”
They exchanged looks and moved back.
“Good choice.” I removed my jacket, wrapped it around her shoulders and led her out of there, ignoring the oohs and ahh from the students.
