Chapter 4. Shame

Leo’s (Asher’s Beta) P.O.V

As soon as we had entered the store Asher was acting differently, he was looking around as if he was searching for someone then his eyes stopped on a girl standing a little distance away from us. Asher’s eyes were fixed on a girl who had a water bottle in her hand and a school bag on her shoulder.

Asher started walking towards her, stalking her like she was his prey. Suddenly the girl moved swiftly going towards a store room at the back of the shop. Asher was following her and I had no idea why, but before I could stop him he had vanished behind the girl.

I sniffed the air, following Asher’s scent to the store room, I was within seconds of knocking on the door when  a girl came running out, she was moving faster than the wind. My eyes immediately moved to the inside of the room, where I found my Alpha standing. I wasn't expecting anyone to be in there with him, especially not after the way that girl had run off.

“Alpha, who was the girl who ran out of here?” I asked, confused, but he didn't answer.

“Alpha, who was that girl? Why did you come back here, chasing after her?” I tried again, as I saw that Asher looked lost.

"She was my mate." Asher replied. He had lifted his hand to his nose to smell, trying to breathe in his mate’s personal perfume but  he just  looked crazy doing it. His whole body was covered in that girl's smell.

"What?! She was your mate?" I said, almost shouting in shock. I saw Asher's eyes still gazing at the back door of the store where the girl had run away.

"Then why didn’t you go after her? Why would she run away after finding her mate in the first place? I saw her running away at full speed, at this point she may be on another street." I prodded Asher in a panic looking at him, but he had a serene face.

"No need." Asher replied, finally exiting the dark room.

"But why?" I questioned.  It was then that I noticed that Asher was holding a card in his hand. I looked at it carefully, seeing that it was an ID card, but it definitely wasn't his. It belonged to the girl who had run away, name on the card read Bella. It was a school ID that must have fallen from her bag in her rush to  run away. I smiled,now fully I understand why he was so calm; why he didn’t follow Bella because she was going to come to him on her own and she didn’t even know it yet.

  Bella's P.O.V

My face turned white when I saw the person who was standing in front of me,realizing that I had slapped the completely wrong person. The people around me were whispering,  making sure that I was aware of the magnitude of the mistake that I had just made on my first day of school no less. No actually, I had just committed a sin. I had slapped the bad boy of school. To make matters worse he was not only the bad boy, rather he is a bad boy Alpha who also happened to be my mate!

What was he doing here? He was in the convenience store before, I had tried my best to run away from there. Did you follow me? I wondered as I looked him up and down. I knew that I was dead. He was wearing the same school uniform that I was. Maybe back in the store he had been wearing the same, but I had not noticed because it was dark and I had been trying to get away.

It meant he attends the same school as me. I should have understood when people were calling him the bad boy of the school. I am doomed. I kept my hand over my mouth in an attempt to control my panic.I could see that he was still staring at me, with some kind of emotion I couldn’t seem to place, but there had been no changes in his facial expressions. He did not appear to be angry, rather he looked as if my slap had not affected him at all, but I knew that was not true.

I had slapped him in front of the whole school. How can he just stand there calmly? He should feel insulted, offended. I could sense danger around me, but I could also feel something else and I wasn’t sure what it was. My heart was beating a staccato beat in my chest at seeing him standing there in front of me.Yes, I felt fear but there was something else there too. I looked around at the other wolves that were encircling me, I could tell that they were furious.

I had never been between other wolves before. I honestly was scared of them, but with him in front of me I also felt safe. His eyes were so beautiful that I was having trouble focusing on anything else, including my own safety. Today I understand how amazing and secure it felt having a mate. He was my mate, but why an Alpha? Why?

“Bella….” Lily interrupted, bringing my attention to her. I could see that she was shaking in fear of him. My thoughts left me when I saw the person behind him and I don't know why, but it felt as though he was his Beta and he was angry. It was obvious why he would be angry, I had just slapped his Alpha. I looked around, seeing that all the werewolves here appeared scared because they knew who I had just slapped; I stepped back from him in fear.

“WHAT IS GOING ON HERE?!!” A voice abruptly shouted. Whoever he was sounded very angry. I looked to where the voice was coming from along with the other students, finding a man in his forties angrily walking towards us. Who was he? He stood next to us and I saw his angry eyes, which made the rest of the students glance away. Everyone was scared of him.

He was trying to understand what was going on as he was standing between Asher and I as he looked at both of us. I looked back at the seniors who had been bullying the juniors, they were all standing there with innocent faces. None of the juniors were on their knees and no one was crying. Everyone was standing there looking normal, like nothing had ever happened, the weird thing was that the juniors and seniors were standing together like they were friends.

It shocked me when I saw this. What the hell was going on? As soon as this man came all their faces changed colour; now I understood why there were bullies in this school, they were clever and low class people. Money couldn’t cover their low class acts and mind, but they all knew when the teacher was going to come, as soon as the teacher arrived they all started behaving as if nothing had happened. Not only the seniors, but the juniors as well, it surprised me to see that even Lily was behaving like this.

“I ASKED WHAT WAS HAPPENING HERE?!” The man shouted again. I then noticed written on his badge that he was the principal, his name was also there written. If he came to know about this matter then I was going to be in deep trouble. What had just transpired between Asher and I, accident or not was considered violence. I looked at Asher and saw that he wasn't planning on saying anything to the principal, even though his Beta was giving me death glares he wasn't opening his mouth either. Lily was standing next to me, the way her eyes looked told me I was in big trouble.

“Sir, this new girl slapped Asher.” One of the senior girls said, giving me a bitchy smile. I was furious with her, I knew that she had intentionally done this because if no one said anything then I would be able to protect myself, but now she had taken her revenge on me.

“Next time don't dare to insult any seniors.” She mouthed to me.

“WHAT?!” The principal shouted at me, I closed my eyes. I was expecting something like this, but his reaction was like I had killed someone. I could feel his hot sour breath against my skin as  he stayed silent for about ten seconds.

“I want both of you in my office right now!” The principal ordered walking away. I opened my eyes , then had to quickly stiffen my legs before they turned to jelly beneath me. This is not what I expected on my first day of school, what am I going to do now?

“I am really sorry, Bella. It's my fault that you got into trouble.” Lily said, holding my hand.

“It's not a problem, actually I should thank you. You warned me that he was going to attack me from behind, you pushed him away from me.” I replied, but she gave me a puzzled look.

“I pushed him away? No, it wasn't me.” Lily protested.

“What do you mean? If you didn't push him then who did?” I asked, she looked at Asher.

“Asher did it…” Lily slowly revealed,I was shocked at her answer.

“Yes, he is the one who pushed him away from you. Where would I get courage like that and dare to push a senior? If Asher hadn't pushed him, that senior would have forced himself on you. He came running out of nowhere, pushed him away before he could lay a finger on you.” Lily explained, I watched him as he was making his way towards the office.

Why did he do it?

Lily was coming with me to the principal’s office as she was feeling guilty. I had told her that I would go alone, but she insisted that she wouldn't leave me. Upon reaching the principal’s office Lily stopped outside the door while I went in, but when I was inside I saw that Asher wasn't here and it was just the principal and I. The Principal’s eyes were red with fury, I quickly lowered my eyes, not knowing what was about to happen to me. Suddenly, there was a knock at the door and when I looked back I saw that Asher was standing there.

  Lily’s P.O.V

I was standing outside the principal’s office, pacing back and forth. I knew that Bella was in danger, she had offended a senior because of me. She hadn’t left me alone, so I’m not going to leave her alone. I have never had the courage to stand up to them before, but Bella seemed to be giving me the strength to finally do so.  When she was talking to Taylor she was looking him in the eyes and didn't let him kiss her.

I had never seen such a brave girl before, no one had ever dared to mess with them, but then she had messed with Asher. I don't know what would happen to her now, I felt so guilty. I saw Asher going into the principal’s office and I was trying to peep inside, but the door closed. I was startled when I  felt someone place a hand on my arm as I looked up I saw that it was Asher’s friend Leo.

“What happened?” I asked him as I felt his grip on my arm tightened, like he was angry.

“I HEARD IT ALL HAPPENED BECAUSE OF YOU! YOU ARE THE REASON FOR ALL OF THIS s**t!!” Leo shouted, making me flinch back.

“I know….I am sorry, but I didn't do this intentionally.” I replied, trying to pull free from him.

“You being sorry won't do anything. Do you even know what the hell will happen now?” Leo asked through gritted teeth. I glanced up at him, but he was looking behind me and when I followed his gaze my eyes widened in fear. There were seniors and friends of Asher and Leo, who were also seniors and they were surrounding me, all of them were staring angrily at me, like they were going to kill me. I immediately looked away from them and stared straight at Leo.

“Why are they angry with me?” I whispered as my throat dried up.

“Because….” Leo said, leaning down closer to my face, making me slowly blink.

“Because you were with the person who slapped our Alpha.” Leo murmured in a tone that sent chills in my bones.

“What do you mean by Alpha?” I asked, looking into his eyes, he smirked evilly.

“Do you know what? They all heard you saying the word Alpha.” Leo cautioned in a dangerous tone.

“So what?” I asked, confused as he pulled me towards him, causing me further pain in my arms.

“Now you know about us….You can not escape from your fate now.” Leo chided, I shivered to hear him. I don't understand any of this, what did he mean by Alpha? The way that he said that it sounded as if he was pulling me into some unknown danger.

“Why…are you…doing…this to me?” I pleaded, struggling and abruptly I felt his grip loosen from my arms.

“Because I hate you.” He replied, looking into my eyes and suddenly I saw his eyes shined like an animal. He threw me in a dark room, where I was only able to see him. Everything was pitch black and only an evil person was standing in front of me who freely admitted to hating me….

  Bella’s POV:

Without any warning  I heard a door knob turn. I looked back as Asher entered. He was standing behind me, his eyes were focused on me. I looked at the Principal again.

“Alpha.” The principal said, getting up from his chair and bowing his head to him. I panicked to see what was happening as Asher sat down on the chair, resting his feet on the principal's desk like he was a king.

“Make it short, I’m busy.” Asher ordered, the principal nodded his head like an obedient servant. Now I understand that they are from the same pack and that Asher is Alpha of that pack. The principal would not let this matter go because I had slapped his Alpha. I was still standing there like a statue when the principal’s eyes rested on me and he was holding my file in his hand, then he threw it on the table in anger.

“I hope you realise that you have slapped the face of an Alpha.” The principal sternly told me. I could feel Asher’s eyes on me and he was watching my face, my expressions and my body language.

"This is the first day at your new school and you have already messed with an Alpha. Do you even know that after leaving this room the other werewolves of the school will make your life a living hell? He is from the New Moon Pack. Our pack is the largest in the city. He is the future Alpha of our pack and you are a simple lone wolf!" The principal said, I flinched.

I was listening to him, lowering my head because I knew I was in the wrong here. I should have held my anger in check, I should have seen who was behind me. Suddenly I noticed that just as the principal said that I was a lone wolf Asher’s eyes changed and they were no longer normal looking, he appeared angry and aggressive. What's wrong with him?

Asher picked up my file from the desk and looked at my information. I looked at the principal and even he seemed scared of Asher’s behaviour. I don't know what was happening, but I was getting a feeling that the problem was not going to be solved, rather that I was going to be in even more trouble.

“Lone wolf….” Asher grumbled, breaking the silence. This was the second time I had heard his voice. It sounded so hot, sexy, and heart pounding, but when he had called me a lone wolf I knew that he had a different attitude and hatred in his eyes. He threw my file in the trash can like it was dirt and got up from his seat. I watched as he stalked closer to me and I backed up in my chair, even though he did not appear as calm as before I could sense a thunderstorm coming straight for me.

“Alpha, what do you want to do with this lone wolf now?” The principal inquered, bowing his head to Asher. I was still looking at Asher, my whole body became cold with fear. Abruptly the principal left the room, leaving me alone with Asher. Why had he left me alone with him?

  “Bella, calm down, he is our mate. He will not do anything.” My wolf assured me, as soon as I heard her say the word mate I stopped in my place.

  “Are you telling me the truth?” I asked my wolf.

  “Yes, don't move or he will get angry. Let's accept him and love him, he is our mate.” My wolf said, just as my back had touched the wall behind me. Asher was much closer now and had  placed both of his hands on either side of me, caging me in between his arms and the wall.

“Why did you run away from the convenience store?” He asked in a deep voice. My heart was beating so fast due to his close proximity and his delicious scent, I can’t help but wonder if I’ll ever be able to think clearly near him while I breathe it in. Those were the eyes that I had seen in the dark.

“Do you want to know the truth?” I asked, looking at his lips. Those were the lips that kissed me passionately in that dark room. He was waiting for my reply.

“Because you are an Alpha.” I replied, he was still looking at me. There was no change in his eyes at my reply. I heard he is a bad boy so why is he…

“And now this Alpha will decide your fate.” He spoke, evilly smirking at me.

“What do you mean?” I questioned him. I felt his hand softly on mine. My breath was uneven as he touched me. He placed his hand on my cheek.

“You have slapped your Alpha.From now on I vow to make your life a living hell. You are my pet, my slave, my everything. You are under my mercy.” Asher informed me, I was terrified hearing this from him. His pet, slave and everything. What does he mean? Am I not his mate? My wolf had told me he would love and accept me, so why did he sound like my master?

“And one more thing….” Asher hesitated and came closer to my lips.

“Don’t tell anyone that you are my mate. It's a shame for me to have a lone wolf as a mate.” Asher whispered.
