The wedding was finally over. I was in the car with alpha Lucien, driving to my new home.
It has been oddly quiet between us, each of us lost in our thoughts. I couldn’t stop touching the mark on my neck or thinking about how his lips latched onto my skin earlier. The sensation was… heavenly.
I’d never felt so aroused in front of so many people. It was embarrassing because I knew others could smell it. The room was filled with a bunch of werewolves after all.
I was staring out of the window of the car and the several colorful street lights we passed. An older woman and two warmly dressed kids were playing in the snow along where we passed. She looked like their mother and they had made so many snow men together. They looked really happy as they danced and played around, wearing the Christmas red hats on their heads. Sadly, I had never experienced this kind of fun with my family. I had hoped for it up until yesterday and today, I realized that I didn’t have a family. Those people… mother, Kayla, they weren’t my family.
I mean, family wouldn’t plot to kill one another. I could still feel the pain piercing through my chest whenever I thought about their betrayal.
“I didn’t see your sister at the wedding today.” Alpha Lucien’s question brought me back from my thoughts. It came so suddenly that my heart began a frantic race as I thought of how to answer.
“S-she… wasn’t there.” I blurted out and he looked at me. His expression, blank but his gaze, intimidating as always.
“And… you didn’t ask about her?” A frown slowly formed on his face.
I was lost for words.
Why was he suddenly asking about me?
Even if I did ask about myself, it wouldn’t have changed anything because as mother said, I was dead. Sooner or later, this news would be announced to all and I doubt anyone would be sad about it.
“You sound concerned, Alpha Lucien. It’s not like you care about her.”
I remembered the words he had said to me when he came by the house yesterday.
To never think of hurting Kayla. But did he know? That I wasn’t the one who wanted to hurt her but his dear woman was the one bent on deleting me from this world?
“What if I do care about her?” He finally said after a minute of silence. I directed a stunned look at him.
Huh? What does that even mean?
He cared… he cared about me? He must be lying.
We’ve barely even met more than thrice.
Before I could ask him to explain, the car stopped and the driver informed us that we had arrived.
Lucien exited the car without even glancing at me. He headed inside and I was forced to hurry behind him in my dress as the cold breeze hit my face, causing me to shiver.
I couldn’t help staring at the massive house, a mansion. It looked like a castle, located in the middle of the best estate in Crescent city.
The interior design was even more luxurious. I study art in the academy so I knew a lot about the items, furnitures and paintings we passed. They were all worth so much money that I couldn’t help gaping at all.
“Wait here.” Lucien told me when we got to the living room. He disappeared into another door and when he returned, he was carrying a bunch of papers with him which he dumped on the table, causing me to stare in confusion.
“W-what is this?”
“A contract.” He responded, his gaze becoming fierce as he took a seat opposite mine and crossed his legs. “Now that you have gotten what you wanted, I hope that you are happy?” He glanced down at the papers once before he looked at me again. “Like the contract says, we are to not interfere in each other’s business. I can pretend to love you in public but in private, make sure you stay away or our deal will be over.”
Deal? Contract? My mind pondered over his words and my brows furrowed as I tried to understand what this meant, continuing to stare at those papers.
“This…” I started hesitantly. “What does this mean? Y-you… you were pretending to love Kayla all this while?” Memories of how had looked at me during that wedding flipped through my mind.
That… that was fake?
“Kayla?” He c****d a brow and scoffed. “Did you really think I was going to love you for real after the stunt you pulled with my parents?” He scoffed again, only leaving me with more questions.
Kayla pulled a stunt?
Just what kind of life has she been living?
“Sign it.” He commanded. I could hear the anger beneath his voice.
I picked up the papers with shaky fingers. Written on them, were a bunch of rules that we were to follow while we lived under the same roof.
And Kayla agreed to this? A contract marriage.
I was only starting to realize that I didn’t really know my sister at all. She showed me the side she wanted but behind my back, she was an entirely different person.
“What are you waiting for?” He pressed, causing me to press the ink of the pen against the paper. I didn’t know what the deal he had with her was all about. I couldn’t even tell if it was dangerous. Still, under his frightening stare, I could only go ahead to sign my name on the documents.
Alpha Lucien packed the papers from the table. I felt the side of my neck suddenly throbbing with pain. It was where he had marked me. I was wondering why it was hurting and the next moment, Alpha Lucien had slammed those papers back in front of me with a growl, making me flinch.
My heart raced in fear.
“What is this?” He demanded, causing me to stare down at the document again where I had put my signature. “Are you playing with my right now, Kayla?”
A gasp escaped my lips the moment I realized what I had done.
There, on the document was not Kayla’s signature but mine. Boldly written down there was my name,
Sophia.
