How did I make this mistake? “Are you trying to trick me again?” he slammed his hands on the table. His face close to mine, his mark on my neck hurting badly. Again? I wondered. “I-I’m sorry. I’ll fix it.” I picked up the pen to try to correct the signature but he snatched the papers out of my hands and breathed, as if trying to control his anger. I noticed the sensation on my neck reduce a lot. Could it be related to his anger? “I’ll get you a new copy.” He finally said and just then, someone walked inside the living room. It wasn’t a new face to me but someone who was equally well known in our world. His Beta. “Brian, show her to her room.” He commanded. “Yes, Alpha.” Brian showed me the stairs and I followed him up, gingerly, careful not to fall in my gown. I couldn’t help feeling Alpha Lucien’s intense gaze on my back, as if he was trying to burn a hole through me. If I thought Kayla’s room back home was big and luxurious then this… will be considered massive. It was as big as a house, designed to match Kayla’s taste. Or perhaps she had designed it herself. “I hope you like your room?” Brian asked me, a smile on his face as I threw him a curt nod. “For now, rest. And tomorrow, you shall be introduced to the rest of the pack members.” “Let me know if you need anything. You just need to call out through the pack’s link.” He told me and made to leave but I quickly called him back before he closed the door. “Wait!” He stopped. “Is there something wrong, Luna?” Luna? Oh right. I doubt I’d ever be able to get used to it. “Can I ask you a question?” “I’m all ears, Luna.” I took in a shaky breath and said my words carefully. “Your Alpha… does he really not like me at all?” His expression remained neutral, with only his lips stretching a bit into a fake smile. “I wouldn’t know what he feels in his heart.” He started. “But—with the bond you created between yourselves, it will only be a matter of time before he gets used to you.” “Ahh…” I nodded, as if I understood him but I did not. He bade me goodnight one last time before he left and I was left alone, in a room that echoes every single noise I make. I opened Kayla’s wardrobe and was met with all sort of skimpy yet sexy lingering. None of it was enough to cover the most vital places. I found one that the arms were made of a lacy see through material, exposed the whole belly area and also a lot of cleavage. I made sure the door was locked before I put it on and collapsed on the queen-sized bed. After all, I had this room to myself and Alpha Lucien seemed to hate Kayla. I doubt he’d be coming here. But—what if I was the one misunderstanding and he didn’t really hate her? That was not possible. I saw the way he looked at her. It wasn’t exactly hate, but it was something similar. Dislike perhaps. What could Kayla have done to him? I wondered and just then, a ping from a phone caused me to be on alert. It was Kayla’s phone that I had dropped on the table. I picked it up to see the numerous messages coming in. All of it were to congratulate her on marrying Alpha Lucien. My eyes narrowed as I looked at all of these messages. Apart from her three friends. Iris, Layla and Chloe, I didn’t know any other person sending her messages. I ignored all of it, scrolled up and found her chat box with Alpha Lucien. Kayla had sent him a total of nine messages yesterday night which he read and didn’t reply to any. Kayla: Lucien, are you asleep? Kayla: Tomorrow is our big day and I cannot wait to be married to you. Kayla: I can’t sleep. Kayla: Are you angry at me? Kayla: What did my sister say to you? Kayla: You better not believe any of her words. Sophia lies like she does it for a living. Don’t let her trick you. Kayla: I told you about what I found in her room, didn’t I? She is going to sabotage our relationship. Tears brimmed my eyes when I saw all of these messages. It doesn’t sound like Kayla at all. What happened to my sweet innocent sister who always tried to protect me? It was still difficult to believe that her kindness to me was all an act. I sacrificed everything for her including my identity. I did everything Mom wanted to make sure she was happy and had the best things in life. I never worried about myself. I only wanted to see these two happy but what did I get in return? Their betrayal. I used a moment to gather my emotions before I scrolled down the chat she had with Alpha Lucien. I needed to know what kind of pictures she had sent to him, the lies she had spatted about me. And I finally found it. In the numerous messages they had exchanged with Alpha Lucien replying with one word most of the time. He seemed bored to me and she—Kayla seemed so very desperate in all of the text she sent. I finally found the picture she had sent to him. It was a perfectly photoshopped picture of me and Alpha Lucien standing side by side with a love heart drawn between us, captioned with the words. “Look what I found in my sister’s room. I think she is in love with you. Now I understand why she almost burnt my toe that day. She must be jealous of me.” Hah. I scoffed, reading and rereading the text. I wasn’t as obsessed with him as to photoshop a picture of us like this. Kayla did it herself and framed me. All for what? That wasn’t all. There were other things she said, all meant to ruin my image in front of him. No wonder he had reacted that way when he came by the house. Kayla made it look as though, I had been setting traps for her, intending to hurt her. This… was even more than I imagined. I couldn’t believe my own sister would do this to me. “You deserved all of it.” I heard a voice whisper and almost jumped. I looked all around me and when I found no one, I realized it was my wolf. My eyes lit up in excitement but when I remembered the words she just said, I paused. “Lola.” I called, only to be met with a hateful scoff. It wasn’t my wolf, Lola. It wasn’t her. I used my inner senses to have a look at her. She was sat lazily, staring back at me, a scowl on her face. It was Kayla’s brown wolf, Nia. “Y-you—” “Me what?” she said mockingly. “Imposter!” “Imposter?” I chuckled. “You don’t have any right to feel wronged for your human.” “Why not? You stole her body. You stole her husband.” “It wouldn’t have happened if she didn’t try to kill me.” “You should be happy to die for her to be at peace. Because of you, she suffered a lot.” Suffered? I couldn’t hold back the chuckle that escaped my lips. She and her wolf must be totally crazy. “Crazy?” Nia frowned. “I’d show you just how crazy I can be.” Before I knew it, Nia had taken control over my body. I tried to fight her but she wouldn’t even budge. f**k! I never had to fight Lola for control because she was always calm and rational and does whatever I wanted so I never mastered the art but this--- I didn’t know what to do. I could only watch in horror as she took possession of my body and exited the room, her nose searching around for the sweet scent of someone. Alpha Lucien. She managed to locate his room with his scent and went there, not even bothering to knock. She directly pushed open the door and there, was Alpha Lucien, just coming out from the shower. Water still dripped down his chest, with a towel hanging loosely around his waist and his curly hair scattering over his face and there was me, standing before him in a very skimpy nightwear that did nothing to cover my nakedness.
