Heather's POV
"WHAT DID YOU DO TO HER! WHY IS SHE NOT WAKING UP!?" I scream at Jake. My heart is pounding so loud, I can hear it in my ears.
Still, he remains there with a wicked grin on his face. f*****g bastard.
"ANSWER ME!" I continue to shout at him as I stand near Regina's body. I don't want to leave her side in case this asshole tries to take her.
"I think I love her." He simply states, his eyes roaming on my friend.
I let out a loud, dark, laugh. "LOVE HER? YOU CALL THIS LOVE?"
"Yes, which is why she is still alive."
As Jake is talking to me, I see in my peripheral view, that Steven is inching closer and closer to an ax that's in the room.
Unfortunately, Jake noticed as well and runs towards him.
"STEVEN!" I shout out his name, and I watch as he lifts the ax and swings it at Jake. Cutting deep into his throat.
I run towards the two and stare at the man gasping for breath on the floor. I stick my hand out and Steven hands me the ax. "I swing it with much force, looking into his eyes, I smirk and slice his head clean off his body.
Steven quickly wraps me in his arms as I cry onto his shoulder. Not for long though as I remember my friend is still unconscious. "Regina! We have to get her help."
He carefully lifts her up and looks around the place we are in. "There's no way he used a rope like we did to bring victims in and out of here. There must be a hidden passageway or something." He states. I begin to frantically look for a way out of here.
Not being able to find anything inside this place, I go outside to search. The adrenaline is pumping through me and is helping me spot anything that may seem out of place.
"Steven! Over here!" I call him over to a huge boulder that has obviously been modified. It was shaped perfectly as if made to fit in that spot. He lays Regina gently down and helps me move it. Bingo. Behind the boulder, is a makeshift tunnel going upwards. Grabbing my best friend, he follows me up the dirt pathway.
At the end of the pathway, there was a light shining above. Using the roots and rocks around me, I climb myself out of.. a tree stump? I reach down and Steven helps pass Regina to me, followed by himself.
Rushing as fast as we can, we get to the area where the cars are parked. Steven gets his phone from his backpack, and of course, it's dead. As is mine. f**k. It's like we are in a real life horror film. "Get in. I'll drive her to the city. We have the best hospital care there." I don't bother arguing with him and slide into the backseat of his car, sitting next to my friend. I have her head laying across my lap as I cry to her to hold on.
By the look of his car, I should have known it was fast. I was so lost in my thoughts, that I hadn't realized how long or short the trip was. The next thing I know, the door is being swung open and Steven is helping Regina out of the car with a bunch of hospital staff nearby. They place her on a stretcher and rush into the emergency room entrance.
Being that we are not family members, we are guided to the waiting room. I pace around until a nurse comes to speak with us. "Excuse me, Mr. Giovanni, does she have any family members we could contact for medical information and health history?"
I can't believe I didn't think to call her mom yet.
"Yes, her mother." I proceed to give her Regina's mother's name and phone number. "Heather. Please, sit." I sigh dramatically loud and sit next to Steven. "So, your last name is Giovanni?" I ask him, trying to clear my mind of bad thoughts. He chuckles. "Yes, that would be me. Steven Giovanni."
Hmm. "How did she know your name? Do you visit the hospital often?" I watch as he rubs the back of his neck awkwardly. This causes me to raise an eyebrow at him.
"I may be a well-known person around the city."
"Oh, how so?"
"Have you ever heard of Gio Corp?" He asks.
"Yes, who hasn't?"
"Well, I am the CEO of the business." It takes a moment to register what he just said.
"Really? That's incredible! I admire everything your company does to help save the environment."
Steven's POV
I basically just told Heather that I'm a billionaire, and the first thing she does is tell me how much she admires what my company does. She doesn't gush over me being a CEO or being rich. She continues to ask me questions about the work I do and what future plans I have coming up in the company.
I walk to the vending machine and get us both a coffee and snacks while we continue talking. That is until a woman rushes frantically to us and hugs Heather, catching her off guard and spilling the coffee on the floor.
"Joy! How did you get here so quick?" Heather exclaims as she hugs the woman tightly. "I was visiting a friend in the city when the hospital called me. What happened? How is she? Where is she?"
"Ma'am, could you fill these forms out and we will update you as soon as we can on your daughter's status?" A nurse calmly says to the woman named Joy. I can clearly see the resemblance. Regina looks just like her mother.
As Joy fills out the forms, Heather tells the horrid story of the camping trip. They both cry the entire time and it's heart-crushing. I really hope that Regina is okay.
