Heather's POV
Joy has always been like a second mother to me, and it breaks my heart to see her in pain. Regina is her only child and is a single mother. As we both calm down after a while, Joy properly introduces herself to Steven.
"Hi. I'm so sorry for just storming in here without talking to you. I'm Joy, Regina's mother. I can't thank you enough for saving her from that monster. What can I do to repay you?"
This causes Steven to look baffled. "The only form of p*****t I want from you is a hug." He smiles at her as he stands. Joy rushes to him and cries into his arms. "You're an angel. Thank you so much. You too, Heather!"
"Excuse me." We all turn to the person who spoke.
"Regina is being moved to the recovery room now. You'll be able to visit her at this time. The doctor will fill you in on everything." The nurse politely informs us.
After thanking her, she leads us to the recovery room where Regina is laying in a bed. "Hey. How are you feeling?" I ask her through tears that I couldn't hold back when seeing her. She uses her hand to point to the glass of water on the table next to the bed. I quickly grab it and hand it to her. We remain silent as we wait for her to talk.
"I'm not dead, so that's good." Steven and I let out a soft chuckle, but Joy remains crying next to her daughter. "Mom. I'm okay, I promise." She grabs Joy's hand and smiles at her.
The doctor clears his throat to gain our attention. I also notice a police officer has joined the room as well and is standing next to one of the nurses.
"Sorry to interrupt you guys, but may we ask some questions?" The officer asks. I knew what he was wondering, so I told him the same exact thing I told Joy.
"I can show you exactly where the place is," Steven suggests and the officer accepts the help. "Thank you all. Hope you feel better. I'll be in touch." He informs us as he leaves the room. "I guess that's my cue to leave as well. I'll be back as soon as possible. There's a lot I want to discuss with you both." Steven says and I can't help but wonder what is running through his mind. "Thank you again, Steven." Joy says through her tears. He gives her a hug and bids us goodbye.
The doctor and nurse are still in the room and informs us of what was wrong with Regina. Apparently, Jake had rufied her. I felt sick to my stomach. Who knows what Jake would have done to her if we didn't get there in time. She was completely defenseless in that state.
After a while, the doctor said she should recover quickly and be discharged tomorrow or the following day. A nurse will be in regularly to check her vitals and such. Once they left the room, I had to ask.
"Regina, what exactly is the last thing you remember?"
"I- I was attacked by a bear, but Jake saved me." She lets out a dark laugh. "Ironic, right?" She asks and I just stare at her. "I don't know if it was from blood loss or anxiety, but I passed out in his arms. When I woke up, I was in his bed." I notice Joy shift uncomfortably in her seat. Probably not wanting to hear about her daughter in bed with the man who tried to kill her.
"Go on." I encourage her softly.
"He took care of me. He helped me with my injuries and was so sweet. I-I ended up having s*x with him." Her face turns a bright red. In any other circumstance, I would have teased her about it.
"He said he had talked to you and Steven and assured you guys that I was okay and would meet up with you guys later. I guess that's not true, is it?"
I shake my head. What a f*****g bastard. I hate liars.
"The next morning, I wanted to make him breakfast. I couldn't find anything in the kitchen, so I went downstairs and found a freezer. Opening it, I saw a ton of body limbs and a head!"
"Heather. It was the head of his own mother!" She looks over at Joy. "Mom, I love you." She cries and Joy leans over to hug her daughter.
"I know. Oh! s**t! You just reminded me of something." I exclaim as I pull my phone out. I send Steven a text to let me know as soon as the police bring the body parts to the forensic lab for identification.
"Heather? What are you thinking?" Regina asks as I finish texting him.
"I need to know if any of those limbs belong to Stefanie."
Joy looks at me with eyes popping out of her socket.
"What? I thought Stefanie was at college?"
I then explain to her what happened with my sister. This day is nothing but tears and heartache. She wraps me in a tight hug and I cry on her shoulder.
"Sorry. Regina, please continue." I sob out.
"That's all I remember. He came downstairs and saw me by the freezer. He said, "I see you met my mother." I tried to run, but he caught me and then I blacked out."
