City

Heather's POV As soon as Steven called me, I excused myself from Regina and Joy. My hands trembled as sat in the taxi. My heart was beating rapidly and I was extremely nervous. Arriving at the police station, I saw Steven waiting for me with the officer from earlier. "Heather. It will take a while for the forensic team to examine every single limb that was in the freezer." Steven informed me and the officer agreed. He proceeded to ask us to follow him to a room and write down out statements about what happened.  Once we finished up, Steven offered to drive me back to the hospital. Of course, I accepted the offer and he held the door open for me like the gentleman that he is. "Would you like to stop for food before returning to visit Regina? We can grab food for her and her mom as well?" My stomach rumbled at the thought of food, giving Steven his answer.  We pulled up to a diner and my mouth began to water as we entered the door. The sweet aroma of food. Mmm. We were seated and placed our orders before chatting. "I was going to wait until we returned to Regina, but I want to ask you now." Steven began to say, making me very curious as to what his next words will be.  "I would love for you both to work as teachers in one of my office buildings. I offered free child care services to my employees as one of the incentives to work for my company. I will pay you both more than whatever it is you currently make at your current job."  I sure as hell wasn't expecting him to offer me a job. I remain silent as I process what he just said. That would mean I would have to leave my country life and move to the city.  "Thank you, Steven. That's very generous of you. I have to think about it though. That's a big decision to just up and leave my home. Why us? I'm sure there are hundreds of people in this city that are qualified for the positions."  He gives me a sexy smirk that I want to lick right off his face. Wait.. what? Calm yourself, Heather.  "After everything that has happened, I want to make sure I can help you and your friend. I also don't want anything to happen to you guys ever again. And, if I haven't made it obvious, I like you and want to get to know you more." I feel my cheeks blush. Damn. I feel like a little school girl talking to her crush.  "Just think about it. Okay? I know it's a lot for me to ask from you both, but I think you might enjoy the city life."  "I'll think about it," I say with a smile on my face. I already know my decision, but I want to talk to Regina first and see what she thinks.  When we return to her hospital room, Steven hands the bag of food from the diner to Joy. "I wasn't sure what you guys would like, so I bought a little of everything." He informs them.  "Thank you!" Regina beams at him. "Anything is better than this hospital food." She adds, causing us to laugh.  While they eat, Steven brings up the topic of moving to the city. Joy doesn't seem to thrilled with the idea of her daughter moving here.  "I don't know. I really love the country. The city just isn't my style." Regina honestly replies. "Thank you for the offer though. I greatly appreciate everything you have done for me."  "I understand. If you ever change your mind, the offer will remain. Just rest up and feel better." Steven genuinely tells her with such concern. He really is a sweet guy. I can't help feel more attracted to him. I was going to talk to Regina in private, but I don't feel the need to anymore. She made it clear that she doesn't want to move here, and I already knew that. She has always been a country girl.  "Regina. You know I love you, right?" I ask her sweetly.  "Stop it, Heather. We are not doing a sappy goodbye. I will come and visit you." I gawk at her words. "What? I know how much you love the country and city. Plus, I'm not blind. I've noticed the way you stare at Steven." I feel my face turn red. Seriously. He's standing right here in the room with us and she needs to point that out.  "Don't miss out on a great opportunity just because you don't want to leave me behind. I'm a big girl. I'll be okay." I hold back the urge to cry in front of everyone, but my body betrays me. The tears flow out and I hug my best friend.
