#18 the death of a pack member

Liams father had a connection to each pack member since he was the king. Liam and scarelett had just gotten down to the dinning hall and were about to eat breakfast when his father fell to the ground feeling a bond in the pack break. it was excruciating as he fell out of his chair. " father!" liam, Abraham and Zara flew out of their chairs to their fathers side. his dad was clutching his chest in pain. it was as though he could feel the slow death of one of his members.
" get the doctor right away!" Liam yelled out to the room. all of a sudden a doctor came over to his side. Liam, Zara and Abraham stepped back to let the doctor examine him. Liam spoke up first his voice full of concern for his father. " doctor is he going to be alright?"
the doctor was silent for a moment longer before looking up to Liam and his siblings. Zara was holding onto Liam and Abraham was holding onto his mother. Scarlett sat there in her chair no one noticing her eyes had rolled back and only the white of her eyes were now visible. " he will be fine. it seems as though he felt the death of a member. he felt every painful agonizing part of it."
Scarlett started to feel a warmth spreading over her skin and emanating it out letting the heat pour out of her body and fill the room. her body started glowing lightly at first then burst into a dazzling white blinding those around her. her eyes were still white and her voice had seemed to change. it was soft and sweet and sounded like an angel. " be prepared. there is an evil coming with power that is now greater. be diligent and remember to trust in the love and bond you have created even before you were mated. that love has great power." all eyes were watching her. not a single person moved. then out of nowhere the light disappeared and Scarlett fell out of her chair and Liam caught her before she hit the ground. her eyes were closed and Liam could hear her breathing. the doctor rushed to her side checking on her.
" her vitals are good and she is breathing fine. it's like she is in a deep sleep." the doctor looked between the King and Scarlett. shaking his head. " take them to their rooms to get rest. they will need it."
Liam scooped Scarlett up into his arms as he heard his dad's voice.
" find out which pack member passed away. find this person amd we need to know what happened and give the person a proper burial. " Liam rushed Scarlett up to their room and laid her down on the bed gently. he grabbed a bowl of hot water and a sponge and started undressing her so he could cool her body down and wash away the sweat dripping from her pores. he wasn't sure what else to do.
" sweet little rose bud get some rest." he whispered in her ear. he hand bathed her then dried her off with a towel and covered her naked body with their blanket. he wasn't sure how long she would sleep but he knew he was already getting restless. he heard a knock at the door and he got up to open it.
Zara was standing there with her friend sky. Zara looked distressed. " we came to see her. how is she doing?" Zara pushed by Liam and made her way to the bedroom where Scarlett slept. Zara ran to the bedside grabbing scarletts hand and resting her head on it. " Scarlett we are here and worried about you. get the rest you need then come back to us." Zara stayed by her side for a while longer as he watched his sister cry over Scarlett.
Liam felt a hand snake into his and he immediately pulled it away. " sorry I was just trying to tell you that if you or Scarlett need anything let me know. she wrapped her hands around his biceps leaning her head on his arm. Liam was shocked and repulsed by her need to touch him. he moved out of her grasp and walked to Zara sitting on the bed touching scarletts cheek.
" Zara you look like you need some rest yourself. how is father doing?"
" he actually is doing fine. he sent men out into the woods and it turns out it was one of our warriors. his name was Matteo. he was stabbed in the back all the way to his heart with a diversion dagger." Liam remembered the name from the training grounds. it was the name of the warrior who made him uncomfortable. he wasn't sure what to make of the feelings he had about being indifferent to his death.
he felt a little ashamed that he showed no remorse for him. " have they figured out who it was?"
" yes, there was a note with his naked body from the witch willow."
" what? what did it say?"
" no one would get in her way. that was it. just that. it's kind of spooky. he was a nice guy actually. sky dated him for a while but then there was a rumor he had met his mate and he cut all women off. he no longer spent any time with us and was always running out into the woods but he never was marked so who knows. it may have just been a rumor."
Liam looked over at sky who had grown very uncomfortable and annoyed all at the same time. he could tell she didn't like being turned down and she was used to getting what she wanted. Liam looked away and brushed his finger across scarletts face. " zara?"
" yes brother?"
" do you think it's possible that the witch willow was matteos fated mate? do you think this was a sign of her rejecting him?"
Liam couldn't understand any other reasoning for his death. he was confused as to why not just reject him but it dawned on him. the ultimate way to severe the bond was for one to die. especially if the marking had not been completed. he clearly wasn't marked so it must have been her that decided to kill him to male sure she no longer had the urge to mate him. " Liam you might be on to something. he wasn't marked. but clearly he had been up to something. there were finger nail marks all down his back. he was dumped naked in the forest. what if she killed him during s*x? he never would have seen it coming. she is clearly obsessed with you Liam. she is willing to kill her mate so she can get to you. you're going to need to be extra careful. " she looked at her watch then back at Liam. " we have to get going we have to prepare for the warriors funeral. if Scarlett wakes up let me know ok brother?" she squeezed her brother into a hug and he watched as her and sky left the room. he was more than glad to have sky leave. the way she was trying to throw herself at him while his mate was put into a deep sleep made his skin crawl. he wasn't sure what Zara ever saw in her.
Liam thought back to when he came here the first time to meet everyone and it was sky that threw herself at him. he pushed her away several times and tried to avoid her with everything he had but she would show up out of no where and bump into him accidentally. one time he even found her naked in his bed hoping he would go for it. he walked out of his room and asked the gaurds to remover her and burn his bed and sheets. he wanted nothing to do with her and she just wouldn't listen. He crawled in next to Scarlett pulling her body towards him so he could feel her close to him. he pushed her hair off to the side and buried his nose into the crook of her neck. instantly the smell of roses consumed him filling his senses with her. her smell calmed him and made him feel at peace. it was then that he realized he smelled something else on her this time. it was very faint. he wasn't sure if it was real or he was dreaming it. it almost smelled like roses with a hint of lilies. he smelled her again before it dawned on him. Scarlett was pregnant and she was mixed with the pups smell. he was going to be a dad and Scarlett didn't even know yet. he laid there holding her tight to his chest afraid to let her go. Xander pranced around in his head proud they had put their seed in her. Liam was scared. what if she didn't want to be pregnant yet? would she even be happy about this? they had talked about eventually but now eventually was happening, and right now.
