#1 rescued
" Scarlett come on let's go little one. today you get to spend the entire day with daddy and leave the pack land." Scarletts mother rose, trying to get her ready. Scarlett was a sweet girl. her strawberry blonde hair bounced below her shoulders in crazy curls. her eyes were blue, like the ice tundra they resided in. she was a ball of energy at four years old and way too smart for her own good. she pulled on her fur coat and walked to the front door where her father waited for her. " Dante take care of our daughter!" he chuckled as he walked out the door with his daughter in tow. Scarlett was unable to shift yet. that usually didn't happen until a dragon shifter was older. Dante quickly shifted and bowed down allowing his little girl to climb up on his back.
Scarlett loved the feel of the wind as her father flew through the clouds. today they were foraging at the foot of the mountain near the forests edge. As dragon shifters their pack was unique. Ice dragons were unique and only royals could be ice dragon shifters. they passed unique gifts and healing powers that other dragon shifters did not. the royal lineage all had the same ice blue eyes as Scarlett but hers could peer into the depths of one's soul and know their heart. Scarlett was very rare and born to king Dante and Queen Emilia of the dragon shifters. they were protectors sent from the moon Goddess. Dante dipped lower through the tree line to land safely. bowing down, little Scarlett slid off effortlessly as he shifted to his human form. she squealed in delight as her father got dressed. she loved foraging in the woods.
they had spent the day gathering food and items they may need when Dante stood straight his body becoming stiff. " Scarlett stay close. I feel rogues may be close." a few of the warriors that came stood on edge waiting for a sign of any threat. The woods were notorious for rogue wolves and even sometimes a dragon shifter. it was considered rare for a dragon shifter to go rogue. dragons lived in packs, but often lived in secluded packs. they kept to themselves but used the sky to help guard and alert and some dragon packs had formed alliances with wolf packs. these alliances served to protect the shifters world. Like the wolf and lycans the shifters needed their pack and had an heirchy that they strictly abided by and respected. Laws in packs and throughout the kingdom of dragon shifters were strictly adhered to.
Scarletts little bouncing curls bobbed up and down as she skipped towards her father, completely undeterred by the threat of rogues. Dante scooped the little girl up into his arms trying not to scare her. " I'm going to shift, my little rose, and you climb on. it's time we get going." shifting quickly and kneeling down for Scarlett to climb on Dante kept a vigilant eye out for any signs of an attack. he lifted into the air ensuring his daughter was safe as the warriors lifted at once following in formation.
Scarlett started pulling on her fathers ear trying to get his attention. " daddy! daddy! look! the boy is being attacked!" Dante and his warriors looked down and sure enough just past the tree line were they once were, was a boy about Scarletts age running as fast as he could, a trail of rogues started surrounding him snarling their teeth at the little boy. Dante could see the sheer terror in the little boys eyes as he screamed out for his mom. nodding towards his warriors they swooped down attacking the rogues that had surrounded him. it wasn't much of a fight. his warriors were highly trained and skilled fighters in both dragon and human forms and in this fight they didn't even have to use any of their abilities. one warrior shifted scooping the hurt little boy in his arms and climbing on the back of another warrior holding on to the little boy as they flew to safety.
it had been two days since the little boy was rescued from the rogue attack. Dante had brought the boy to the palace having their healer check him. " Dante we need to find his family. they have to be worried out of their minds. he is definitely a wolf but he doesn't have a wolf yet." Emilia was trying everything to try and find his family. they had put the word out to a few packs in the wolf and lycan world but so far no one claimed to have lost a four year old boy. Scarlett had come every day to watch over him. she would talk to him and read the few books she could read to him. " Come Scarlett he needs more rest."
" mommy?"
" yes my little rose bud"
" if we can't find his family, can we keep him? I think he is going to be my best friend. " her mother tried to stop herself from laughing at her daughters sweet innocence. The innocence in her words making her heart swell.
" Scarlett this little guy has a mom and dad just like you who misses him very much. like I would miss you if my day didn't have my sweet little rose bud in it!" Her mother bent down kissing her on the forehead and tickling her sides. the squeals of laughter drifted down the hall.
" I know mommy but if he needs a home and a new family, we can be his family right?" looking into her daughters ice blue eyes Emilia smiled her heart melting at her daughter's words.
" yes dear. we will keep him safe if we can not find his family. now come on let him rest. the healer said he will wake up any day now." Scarlett listened to her mom but not wanting to leave the sleeping boy. She kissed his cheek before following her mother out.
1 week later
" queen Emilia, I know it has been a week but he needs this time to heal. I sense he is a wolf. possibly a beta he just doesn't have his wolf yet." the healer looks over the little boy still sleeping peacefully. " he has a strong heart beat. he is going to be a strong wolf. I can feel it." she smiled walking towards the door before turning around. " he responds when Scarlett is here you know. his body starts to heal faster and he tends to have more brain activity when she talks with him. those two have a very special friendship. it might be a good idea to allow the little princess in to see him more." Emilia nodded her head dismissing the healer. she couldn't deny what she had said. the little boy did seem to respond to her when she was around. Scarlett seemed to brighten up when he was around as well.
just then there was a knock on the door and Emilias eyes showed her joy. a little strawberry blonde girl with dazzling ice blue eyes walked in carrying a book in her hand to read to the sleeping boy. her father close behind her. " mommy! daddy said I can come and read to him. I think his name is Liam. I'm going to name him Liam." she climbed onto the empty chair next to the bed pulling open a book.
Emilia looked at her curiously. " how do you sense his name is Liam my little rose bud?"
" I don't know mommy. I just feel him." without a glance back at her parents she began reading her special book for Liam. a book she read every day to him. the monitor started beeping crazily and Emilia and Dante looked at each other. Emilia continued to read. her eyes never looking up as she continued. the little boy started stirring and Dante ran to go grab the healer. Emilia drew closer as the boy became more agitated. all of a sudden his eyes fluttered open revealing the most stunning emerald green eyes any of them had ever seen. " hello Liam. we have been waiting for you to wake up." Scarlett said. her mother couldn't help but look between Scarlett and the little boy. did her daughter know he would wake up today?
the little boy went to open his mouth to speak but no words came out. Emilia grabbed a glass of water bringing the cup to the little boys mouth letting him quench his parched mouth. " my name is Emilia. this is Scarlett and what might your name be little one?" Emilia looked at the boy hopeful there would be a few more answers.
he looked up at queen Emilia and smiled. " L..Liam" he whispered softly. her eyes grew wide and looked at her daughter in shock. how did she know this?
Emilia smiled down at the boy and then her husband and the healer burst through the door to see the little boy awake. after a thorough check up the healer said he was good to leave the hospital. there was still no word on who Liam belonged to or why he was being chased by rogues. Dante and Emilia decided it was best to bring him home with them where they could properly care for him and keep the search for his family. it was like he came out of nowhere and from nowhere.
