Chapter 3

1494 Words
Freya Time seems to slow down when Alpha Jaxx lifts his free hand and reveals his sharp claws. He is going to s***h my face, but I won’t let that happen. Even though he is stronger than me, I will not give up. As the saying goes, if you fall seven times, you must get back up eight. So I clench my fist, take a deep breath, and then, with a newfound strength I didn’t think I had, pull free from his grip and hit him square in the nose. “You little s**t!” Alpha Jaxx growls. “That f*****g hurt!” I know what I did was a bad idea, but sometimes you have to make your own path. So when Alpha Jaxx releases me to clutch his nose, I run out of the classroom. “What are you guys doing?!” Alpha Jaxx growls. “Don’t let her escape—get her, you dumb f***s!” Adrenaline shoots through my veins like…well, f*****g adrenaline as I sprint down the corridor. Heavy footfalls are echoing behind me, and I wonder how the hell I’m going to get out of this. Do I even stand a chance? I skid around a corner and nearly collide with a janitor’s cart that’s been conveniently parked in the intersection between two halls. I grip it and send it rolling behind me before I continue running. Loud clatters and curses come from behind me as it flies into the pack members chasing me. Ha, take that, Alpha Jaxx! “Gah!” I hear him yelling behind me. “You’re f*****g dead when I catch up with you, little Omega!” Shit-s**t-s**t! I didn’t expect them to recover this quickly. What do I do now? Run into the cafeteria for help? No. I want to get out of this on my own. I’m tired of being the weak little Omega—I want to change! My eyes are locked on the doors leading outside, and as I run, a miracle happens: a sudden surge of power courses through my veins. Hell yes, I’m shape-shifting for the first time! Excitement bubbles up within me. I wonder what my wolf will look like? Will I be beautiful like my mom or powerful like my dad? The possibilities are endless, and I’m hyped when my skin turns into black, fluffy fur. It’s happening! I’m becoming a wolf. This is the best day ever! My teeth are turning sharp, and a fluffy tail sprouts out from my behind. I’m standing on four legs and wait… Something is terribly wrong—I’m not a big, bad wolf, but a freaking puppy! What the actual hell?! My clothes are in a heap on the floor, and I release a sound that could be best described as adorable. f*****g hell—I had hoped for a mighty growl! I’m not the only person shocked by my transformation. Alpha Jaxx and his friends are frozen in motion, staring down at me with wide eyes and stunned expressions. “What the f**k is that?” “She turned into a rat.” “No, you i***t, that’s a baby wolf!” “Woah, you’re right, but…how is that even possible?” “Maybe her wolf didn’t age with her—how the hell am I supposed to know?! Just get her!” Alpha Jaxx roars at his friends, who immediately recover from their shock. Not good. Suddenly, I’m surrounded by Josh, Stu, and Kenny. They are all wearing menacing grins, probably more than entertained by my embarrassing wolf form. Why me? “Grah!” I growl at them, and when they start laughing, I use that opportunity to spring forward. I don’t get very far. My nose bumps into someone’s black pants, and I take a step back in fear—why do I keep running into Professor Bell? How humiliating. I bet he will laugh at me, too. “Hmm, what do we have here? A little baby wolf chased by the others?” I whimper when he bends down to pick me up. He examines me with an amused expression, paying no mind to Alpha Jaxx or his friends as he lifts me from the floor. “Well, aren’t you a cute one?” His voice is gentle, and, just like before, I’m hit with the scent of his cologne. It’s strangely comforting. Alpha Jaxx and his gang are momentarily frozen in the background, stunned by the scene. Professor Bell doesn’t even address them. “You know,” he muses, his fingers brushing against the soft fur of my head in a way that makes me want to close my eyes and purr, “I always thought the school could use a mascot.” A growl leaves my mouth—I don’t want to be a mascot! I glare at Professor Bell, who chuckles in amusement. “It was only a suggestion,” he smirks and glances away from me. When he notices Alpha Jaxx, his red eyes momentarily glow like those belonging to something inhuman. I get the feeling he is using making, and I have my confirmation when his eyes grow cold and distant. “Really? You were going to beat her up after catching her?” Before I know what’s going on, I’m moved to his right arm while he lifts his left hand into the air. “As a professor, I’m not supposed to beat students, but I’m not a normal professor. And who am I kidding? You guys won’t tell a soul about this, or I will haunt you in your dreams.” With a flick of his hand, he harnesses an unseen power, and the four werewolves are lifted from the ground, suspended like puppets in the air. Their muffled screams and gurgling sounds echo through the corridor, sending chills down my spine. Just what kind of creature is Professor Bell?! I watch in terror as Alpha Jaxx and his friends frantically claw at their own necks, struggling against the invisible force holding them captive. But they can’t break free. The scene before me is a horrifying display of raw power. Suddenly, Professor Bell sighs. “I think that’s enough to teach them a lesson.” With a nonchalant wave of his hand, the invisible force lifts, dropping Alpha Jaxx and his friends onto the floor with an ungraceful thud. They groan in pain as they clutch their throats, gasping for air. But once they notice Professor Bell is staring at them, they run away without daring to look back. I don’t blame them. Professor Bell scares me, too. I’m shaking like an aspen leaf in his arms, and it unsettles me when he turns his attention back to me, smiling as though nothing out of the ordinary has happened. “Now, shall we fix this little problem of yours?” As he says this, his hands begin to glow with an eerie blue light, and suddenly there’s an odd sensation coursing through me. It’s like my entire body is dissolving, shifting, and breaking down into something else. “Don’t be scared. This won’t hurt,” Professor Bell promises me before starting to chant in a foreign language. It sounds like a forgotten ancient melody. Beautiful. Soothing. I close my eyes and breathe with the music. Slowly but surely, I start feeling changes happening to my body. My fur recedes into smooth skin, and my limbs lengthen and reshape into their human form. My senses seem to dull momentarily; the world around me fades out until all I can hear is Professor Bell’s chanting. Finally, the glow from his hands fades, and the strange sensation ceases. When I open my eyes, I’m met with Professor Bell’s piercing gaze. He is staring at me with an unreadable expression - detached yet intensely curious. “There we go,” he murmurs quietly as he lowers me to the ground. My knees buckle slightly under the sudden weight of my human form, but his firm grip on my arm steadies me until I gain balance. I look down at myself in surprise. The baby wolf is gone - in its place stands a woman dressed in a simple white dress that wasn’t there before. Professor Bell must have summoned it to save my self-respect. He loosens his grip on me and takes a step back. “Fascinating. I’ve yet to encounter a hybrid like you, possessing both witch and werewolf blood. Although, it seems your attempt at using magic to shape-shift didn’t quite go according to plan.” I blink in confusion before releasing a laugh. “Professor, you must be mistaken—I’m not a hybrid.” He tilts his head to the side. “You are,” a smirk spreads over his devilishly sexy lips. “Haven’t anyone told you that?” My eyes widen. My parents are werewolves, so this makes no sense to me. Wait... Am I adopted?
