What a coincidence. What a disgusting coincidence to see Josiah and his friends with his girlfriend in this café.
I can’t believe I had an encounter with his girlfriend who is seemingly so clingy to him. Is that why everyone around him doesn’t like her for him? Because she’s too clingy?
But then again, why do I even care, right? It’s not like I am affected by them.
I’m not.
“Are you alright?” Mona asked me when Nanette and I arrived at our table which is placed just across Josiah’s table.
I nodded. “Yeah, why would I not be?”
She shrugged while Nanette and Mitch chuckled. They all seem to be enjoying this awkward scene—especially Nanette who even introduced herself to Josiah’s girlfriend.
“This is such a good day,” Mitch laughed. “Isn’t it, Eunice?”
I rolled my eyes. I don’t know why they love playing with me these days. They also love linking me to Josiah, which is ridiculous. And disgusting.
“The girl seems familiar, though. Don’t you think?” Mona asked and Nanette blatantly stared at Hannah without minding if she looks like a creeper.
Nanette nodded. “Where would we have met her?” she asked.
I shrugged. “Just leave the girl alone,” I told them and they all laughed at me. I gave them a look. “What’s funny?”
Mitch shrugged. “You are,” she said and I glared at her immediately. “Are you affected?”
“What?” I asked back. “I’m not affected. I just want you to stop scrutinizing her because she seems kind and she doesn’t deserve getting judged.”
Mona raised her brow at me. “But, Eunice, we’re not judging her. I just said that she looks familiar so we are thinking where we could have possibly met her,” she explained.
Nanette nodded. “Why are you so pressed about it?”
I pursed my lips in a thin line and looked away. They’re right. Why am I pressed about it?
“Eunice, don’t tell me…” I looked at Mitch and saw her narrowing her eyes at me.
“What?” I asked.
“Are you falling for him?” Mitch asked directly. Nanette and Mona are both listening.
“No!” I emphasized.
I don’t like Josiah. I just thought that maybe our upcoming marriage would be harder on him because he has a girlfriend. It is already stressful that his mother threatened him that she’ll throw his girlfriend outside Korea if he didn’t agree.
So, I think, that made me understand his situation more. And I realized that my hurt feelings are nothing compared to his.
That’s it.
“We would want to believe that,” Nanette nodded.
I glared at her. “You would want?!” I asked in disbelief. “You need to believe that because it’s the truth,” I replied.
She chuckled and shook her head. “This is actually the first time that I saw you explaining yourself too hard, Eunice.”
I shut my mouth and stared at her.
“If it was nothing, act like it’s nothing,” Mona said.
“But when you get married, you can act like you own him because he’s your husband,” Mitch laughed.
I glared at her and threw her a piece of paper but that only made them laugh even louder.
These girls are weird.

“Mom asked me to give you these.”
I furrowed my brows when I saw a jar of freshly-baked cookies in front of me.
I looked up and saw Josiah standing there while looking down at me as I am seated in an empty table in the cafeteria.
I took the jar of cookies and thanked him before resuming in studying. Apparently, there’s an exam that’s coming up in an hour and I haven’t even memorized the mode of action of these drugs.
“Long exam?” I was shocked when Josiah sat in front of me, across the table.
I nodded and continued highlighting the drugs in different colors.
“What’s with all the highlighters?” I heard him ask.
I shrugged. “Different colors so I could easily see what I am looking for,” I replied without looking at him.
My mind was already panicking as I read through the book. Josiah didn’t speak but he was still there.
“Don’t you have a class?” I asked him as I decided to open the cookie jar to eat one. “Do you want one?” I asked as I offered the cookies.
He shook his head. “I don’t really like sweets,” he replied.
I nodded and just shrugged. I took a small bite and was amazed at how good it tasted. “Did your mother bake these?” I asked.
He nodded. “She loves baking. She bakes cakes and all kinds of pastries.”
I smiled. “Nice. My mom doesn’t know how to cook,” I said.
He laughed. “Then, how do you eat?”
“We have cooks in the house,” I replied. “Sometimes, I do the cooking.”
He stared at me as I munched the cookie down. He seemed nice today. I wonder what has gotten into him.
“You’re friendly. Did something happen?” I asked.
He shook his head. “I just want to…” he trailed. “…apologize for what happened in the ice cream café.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “What were you sorry about?”
He shrugged. “I don’t know. The awkwardness it brought to all of us?” he chuckled weakly.
I shook my head while looking at him in disbelief. “That’s nothing, Josiah,” I told him. “It’s not like either of us knew that either of us will be there.”
He did not respond but he was staring at me. I saw him gaze at my neck and my eyes widened. Damn. He saw my bruise?
“What happened to your neck?” he asked in a serious tone.
Fuck. I immediately thought of an excuse. “I had a little accident…” I replied.
He was staring at me. “And you hurt your neck,” he tried to finish the sentence for me.
I nodded. “Yeah, kind of,” I replied awkwardly.
“And your arm?” he asked.
I looked at my left arm with a bruise, too. These bruises were what I got from our fight with the PowerPink three days ago.
“I fell. I wore an old pair of shoes and tripped on the stairs,” I replied in a lie.
He nodded but he didn’t stop staring at me like he knew there was something wrong with my replies.
I gulped and looked back to my book. Damn it. Why do I even feel guilty lying to him? It’s not like he would care.
“What time are you going to finish today?” he asked again.
I looked at him, curious. “Why?”
“Mom said I have to take you to our dinner tonight,” he replied.
I nodded. “I finish at 5pm,” I said. “But if we’re going to that dinner, I need to change first because I have PE for my last subject.”
He nodded and stood up. “I’ll see you later, then.” He uttered. “I’ll wait for you at the parking lot.”
I nodded back at him. “Sure, see you.” I replied as I continued to study while he said he’d go and find his friends.
I took a deep breath. Stop this guilt right now, Eunice.
