“Tomorrow is your wedding,” Mom said as she entered my room.
I nodded as I walked towards my closet to put back the suit I will be wearing tomorrow. “I know.”
She sighed and sat on my bed. “Have you told her?” she asked.
I shook my head. To honest, I don’t know how to tell Hannah that I am getting married. I don’t know if I can stand her leaving me. I don’t know if I can watch her walking away from me.
“Why? You should have told her,” Mom said.
I took a deep breath. “Don’t go there, Mom. I don’t want to talk about it,” I replied while I tried to contain my anger.
I hate it when she’s asking about Hannah and I like she’s concerned about us but then she made me marry someone I don’t love. She’s blackmailed me into this wedding and I can’t make myself forgive her for that.
“Wouldn’t it hurt her more if she knew it from someone else?” she asked. “That’s all I’m concerned about.”
I looked at her and caught her staring at me with her usual mean expression.
“You know, son,” she started. “Eunice begged her parents to not let the media cover the wedding. Does she know about you and your girlfriend?”
My eyes widened with what she just said. “She did that?” I asked in disbelief.
Mom nodded. “Eula said Eunice begged her father to cancel the media coverage because she doesn’t want her marriage with you publicized. That’s why we talked about it last Tuesday,” she narrated before eyeing me. “Did you tell her about that?”
I shook my head. “No! Why would I do that?”
She shrugged. “I don’t know, Jos. Because you have a girlfriend and you don’t want her to know about the wedding?” she replied.
I pursed my lips in a thin line as I looked at her in disbelief. “I may not love her but I am not that kind of asshole, Mom,” I told her.
She nodded. “Good,” she said. “Because if you continue your love with your current girlfriend, I don’t know how that will affect your fiancée, son.”
I sighed. “We’re not in love with each other, Mom. Eunice doesn’t even like me,” I replied.
Mom shot me a look with a raised brow. “What do you think is the reason why Eunice doesn’t like you?” she asked.
I stared at her. I swear my insides are shaking. I want to shout at her badly but my respect is stopping me. I don’t want to fight with her.
Mom shook her head and sighed. “I hope you take care of Eunice while you’re married,” she said before leaving my room.
I sighed and threw myself on the bed.
“This is so f****d up,” I muttered as I stared at the ceiling.

“Are you ready?” Sage asked when he peeked his head in from the door.
I looked at myself on the mirror and then I turned around, walking towards the door.
Sage looked at me from head to toe and then smirked. “You look decent,” he commented.
I rolled my eyes. “I’m more handsome than you, fucker,” I hissed as I walked past him.
I heard him chuckle and then slung his arm around my shoulder. “Dude, loosen up,” he said. “I already Eunice and I might say you’re getting the better end of this deal,” he laughed and then wriggled his brows.
I glared at him. “I have a girlfriend, you moron,” I seethed.
I hate this dude. He’s always so annoying.
Sage gasped. “So, you’re still going to keep Hannah?” he asked and I nodded. “Dude, that’s adultery!”
I narrowed my eyes at him. “It’s not. Eunice and I are not marrying each other for love, anyway.”
“But you’ll be married, and every affair within the marriage is adultery,” he said as a matter-of-factly.
I raised my brow. I don’t know why he’s into this adultery topic. I don’t like it. And besides, it’s not like Eunice and I are really getting married. This is a business marriage—a pragmatic one—so, it is just for papers.
“Whatever,” I said as I walked towards the wedding hall.
I could hear Sage muttering some words to himself but I could not discern them.
As I entered in the hall, I saw all of the guests invited. There were not a lot, though, because Eunice apparently not only begged that there would be no media coverage, she also begged for it to be an intimate celebration.
And that’s good, for me, too.
Our families only invited some of our closest friends and relatives. This is almost like a secret wedding, to which, our parents weren’t happy about. But it’s what Eunice wanted so they had no choice.
“Josiah,” Dad called me as he saw me entering the venue. He looked at me from head to toe. “Are you ready?”
I pursed my lips and nodded. “I just can’t wait for this to be over,” I replied.
Dad smirked. “I don’t think you will regret this decision,” he said before the emcee announced my arrival and also the start of the ceremony.
I looked around. I haven’t seen Eunice yet.
Mom walked beside me and smiled. “Your bride looks beautiful. She’s still outside because. Don’t look for her,” she whispered and I just gave her a lazy smile.
An instrumental of a famous song by David Pomeranz is playing as my parents and I walked down the aisle. The flower arrangement is superb. I’ve got to say that they really did it well.
The guests watched us as we walked down the aisle. Mom was sobbing while Dad was just shaking his head.
I narrowed my eyes at my mother. Why is she crying? She’s the one who schemed me so I would agree to this wedding. She literally blackmailed me for this.
“I hope you’ll learn to love her through this marriage,” Dad told me before leaving me on the side of the altar.
I took a deep breath and watched the entourage march their way on the aisle. My friends are giving me huge grins as they went to their seats. Sage was laughing beside me.
Why did I make him the Best Man again?
“Are you nervous?” Sage asked.
I shook my head. “I’m not. I just want to get over this thing,” I replied.
He laughed and patted my back. “Here she comes…” he sang as he motioned the other end of the aisle.
I almost froze on my spot when I saw Eunice accompanied by her parents slowly walking on the carpeted aisle.
She’s wearing a pure white long-sleeved dress lined with some crystals. The white veil that’s covering her face is flowing down to her knees.
Her hair is in a low side-bun while a small crown rested on the top of her head. She looked sad but she’s smiling at everyone.
“I told you, she’s beautiful,” Sage whispered and that’s the only time I got back from my trance.
I never denied that she’s beautiful. She’s just not…my type. But I’ve never imagined that she would look this pretty on this day. She looks like a princess…no, a queen.
Sage chuckled. “Look at Bradley and Charles,” he said and I did what he said. “They look like they’ve seen a celebrity!”
I shook my head as I looked at my friends who are holding their phones and taking a video of Eunice and her parents. Then they looked at me and grinned widely.
I rolled my eyes and focused my eyes on Eunice. She’s almost here. She’s almost near me and I suddenly felt a certain turmoil building up inside me. Oh, f**k me.
