"What exactly happened?"
There was a scowl on both my parents' face as soon as I asked the question.
"An i***t got drunk and run you over with his car." Dad-I cringed when he heard the hard words Dad-D used.
A smirk appeared on Dad-D's face when he added, "But don't worry honey, I plan on teaching him a lesson he will never forget."
I looked at him confused and then over at my Dad-I, noting that I should pay more attention to the speed in which I rotated my neck because it hurt like a b***h.
"His parents begged for us to not file an FIR against him." Dad-D said. "I did not plan to comply to their pleas at first but then I learnt who he was and decided to let him off with a little punishment of my own."
"What are you talking about babe?" Dad-I was just as confused as I was. "And why didn't you tell me any of this before?"
"Because I got to know about it just a while ago." He shrugged and then turned to me. "So now, you have your own personal chauffeur."
I was confused. Why did my sensible father go and do that?
Some random dude had run me over with a car and instead of sending him to jail or juvie for drunk driving, my father was punishing him by being my chauffeur?
I thought Dad-I was supposed to be the more dramatic one.
Dad-D looked between Dad-I and me while we just looked at him like he was crazy.
He let out a sigh and then sat up straight, lowering his voice by a notch when he said, "Do you want to know who this boy is?"
The both of nodded.
"Ace Hunter."
.
.
.
"Ace?"
"Yep."
"Ace Hunter?"
"Yep. Hope, should I go get a doctor? I am worried about your head injury because you keep asking the question over and over again." Harry was curled up on the couch in the room, playing games on his phone while I was on my bed, staring daggers at him.
Aleena promised she would be here in a while after she was done with some of her school work.
"Why would you tell Dad-D that Ace was responsible for the accident?" I whisper-yelled at him.
"Because he was?" Harry was the least affected my angry tone. He never was. He was not really scared of anyone. Fear also needed some sort of intelligence and he lacked even that.
Okay, he is right. Ace did cause the accident but it was the other thing that I was more pissed about.
"Alright, then why did you tell Dad-D that he was the guy I had a crush on? And that he rejected me?" Speaking about it out loud made it as embarrassing as experiencing the situation first hand. And trust me when I say that the feeling is far from nice!
“Because he deserves the wrath of the O’Briens for first breaking your heart and then your leg. And arm. And skull.” He listed out making my head spin. It was true that I was bedridden because of him but having to have him around me was more of a punishment for me than it was for him. I had planned to keep my head low and pretend what happened two weeks ago never happened but now, I will have to remember the incident every single day.
Harry looked at me with a worn-out look before he sighed and said, “Look, I know you don’t want this and you would rather stay as far away as him as you could. But honey, Dan and I are going to torture that guy for you. I mean, it can’t be just a coincidence that he hit you with his car the same day he humiliated you in front of all those people, right? It’s fate. It’s karma hitting him square on the face.”
I narrowed my eyes at him. He was spewing nonsense to let him and Dad-D have their way with this revenge plot of theirs, wasn’t he?
“Fine.” I grumbled. “But no one’s allowed to leave me alone with him for even a second.”
“Aye aye captain!” Harry gave me a mock salute before going back to his game. I looked over at the TV. The show I was watching had ended long ago.
I sighed and took the remote control in my hand, surfing through the channels to find something good to watch.
.

.
I stared at the cold brown eyes of the last person in the world I wanted to see right now.
I know I had given into Harry and Dad-D but that did not make this any easier, especially not with the death glare he was giving me.
“Apologize, you i***t!” Richard Hunter, Ace’s father and a political figure in our town who was running for mayor in the next election, smacked him on his head with an angrier glare than his son’s.
“I am sorry.” Ace mumbled.
“What was that? Didn’t hear ya.” Harry spoke up, making me frown at him. Really?
“Apologize loud and clear boy.” Dad-D said.
I gave my Dad-I a helpless look while he just nodded at me, silently promising me to salvage the situation.
“That’s enough both of you.” He told both my dad and my best friend sternly before turning to the Hunters.
“I just hope he does repeat something like this ever again.” He said. “I almost lost my daughter. The people in the streets are not playthings.”
“I am really sorry for what my son has done.” Mr. Hunter spoke up. “I love my children and I know I wouldn’t be able to take it if something was to happen to him. So I know exactly how you feel.”
Dad-I just nodded. “You guys should go home now.”
“Not him.” Dad-D spoke up, pointing at Ace.
“Dad!!!” I whisper-yelled.
“I am not listening to you, honey.” He just gave me a stern look before looking back at Ace.
“We made a deal. I kept my end of it and didn’t report you to the police. Now it is your turn.”
“Fine.” Ace spoke up, anger evident in his voice and expression. He drew out a chair and sat down beside me. “I will stay here Dad.”
Mr. Hunter nodded and left the room while I looked between Ace and my dads.
Dad-D and Ace were having a staring, scratch that, glaring contest.
Dad-I sighed and sat down next to me.
“Is there any way I can get well overnight?” I asked. “Because I really don’t like what’s happening.”
“Oh honey, you have no idea how much I wish there was something like that.”
