~KAIDEN~
Sapphire Vega.
I knew she had guts, but I didn’t expect her to step her feet into a den of hungry lions, not noticing how they stared at her with vulgar expressions. I made a sign with my hand that made them turn away immediately. They wouldn’t dare to look back.
I scrutinized her frail figure with my gaze—she looked delicate with red hair, siren shaped hazel eyes and small luscious lips that could draw even the strongest and most disciplined king in—but she was far from what she looked like.
I’ve watched her hide her strength because she wanted to make my stupid àss brother accept her, and if you ask me, that’s pretty pathetic and foolish.
I took off the face cap she had on and dropped it on the table, casually crossing my legs over each other. “Repeat what you said,” I ordered, my gaze fixed on her like a predator.
I watched her gulp, seemingly trying to put on a brave front, but I knew better. “I said,” she paused, locking eyes with me one more time while I just stared at her with an unreadable expression on my face. “I said I dare because I’m not like most people,” she answered.
I scoffed. Of course, she’s not.
I leaned closer, my eyes narrowing slightly. “What brought you here, Sapphire?” I asked, a frown finding its way to my face. “Aren’t you scared my brother would think otherwise if he came here and saw us together?”
Sapphire scoffed. “Gavin doesn’t have the balls to come here,” she seethed, her face scrunched up in disgust.
Interesting. That motherfücker has ruined something, like he always does.
“Besides,” she continued, licking her lower lip and lowering her head. “He rejected me. Turns out he has been cheating on me with my best friend, Camille. He chose her instead, saying I wasn’t fit to be his Luna.” she finally looked up, curious to see my reaction, but I gave her a plain expression instead.
Her eyes widened slightly, and she lowered her head again, sighing heavily.
I smirked slightly, already guessing her mission and the deal she talked about. “What do you want from me, Sapphire?” I asked. “Revenge?”
Her gaze snapped up, and for an instant, I saw a flicker of hope ignite in her eyes, accompanied by a fierce longing that I adored.
My brother has always been a troublemaker, who wouldn’t clean up his own mess. Even at that, he was the most favored and loved by my father and everyone in the pack. While me… the one who does the cleaning up was called the “demon” because I didn’t want to be controlled; because I didn’t want to become my father’s puppet.
Father loved Gavin because he could control him; he could make him do whatever shít he wanted, but not me. I owned my life and yes, I will take what’s mine.
I rose from my seat and crouched beside her, gently grasping her chin to meet my gaze. “You want revenge, don’t you?” I whispered, my voice low and husky. “You want him to suffer, to feel the weight of his actions, to beg for forgiveness on his knees,” I smirked. “Is that what you want, Little Vixen?”
“Yes,” she answered, her voice tinged with confidence.
I let go of her jaw and snickered before rising and taking my seat again. I took a glass of wine and sipped from it. “I am not Santa Claus who can make your wishes come true, Sapphire,” I frowned, my voice turning icy. “Leave.”
She was quiet for a while, but suddenly, she looked at me, determination crossing her features. “No,” she replied, her voice firm. “I won’t leave because you haven’t heard everything.”
“Oh?” I sneered.
“I’m not asking you to be my Santa Claus. I can make my own wishes come true, that’s why I’m here.”
I snickered. She’s got fire, I love it.
“If you could make your own wishes come true, go ahead. You shouldn’t need my help then.”
Her eyes met with mine, and she threw me a glare. I remained expressionless while she clenched and unclenched her fists.
“I want a deal, Prince Kaiden,” her voice was softer this time. “I will help you get chosen as the next in line to the throne of the Alpha. You will become the crowned Prince,” she said while I listened with a bemused expression on my face. “In return, you choose me as your Luna to be. That way, I can get my revenge on Gavin.”
I raised an eyebrow, intrigued by her proposal. “Go on,” I said, leaning back in my chair.
Sapphire took a deep breath before continuing. “Alpha Thane has a secret, one that could ruin his reputation and destroy his hold on the pack. I have proof, and I’m willing to use it to our advantage.”
My interest piqued, I sat up straight. “What kind of proof?”
A sly smile spread across her face. “Let's just say it’s something that could make Alpha Thane’s position very… precarious.”
I studied her, trying to read between the lines. Could she have found out what I already know? And how did she get to know about it? Something wasn’t right, and the only way to find that out was to keep a close eye on her.
“Assuming I agree to your proposal,” I said, steepling my fingers together, “how do you plan on helping me become the next Alpha?” I asked, testing her further.
Sapphire’s smile grew wider. “Leave that to me, Prince Kaiden. I have a plan, and it’s already in motion.”
I raised an eyebrow, impressed despite myself. This little vixen was far more cunning than I gave her credit for.
“Very well,” I said, crossing my legs. “I accept your proposal. But let me make one thing clear—I’m not doing this out of the goodness of my heart. I’m doing it because it benefits me, and me alone.”
Sapphire’s smile never wavered as she nodded. “I wouldn’t have it any other way, Prince Kaiden.”
I chuckled slowly. “We're going to get along just fine, Little Vixen.”
“I beg to take my leave now,” she bowed and I nodded.
I watched her leave while tapping my fingers on the hand of the chair I was seated on. “Blaze,” I called.
Before I could count to two, he was already in front of me, his head bowed. “Yes, Boss.”
I took one last look at Sapphire as she exited the door. “Follow her,” I ordered. “Find out what she’s up to.”
“Yes, Boss.” Blaze bowed and went after her immediately.
I leaned my back on the chair and closed my eyes, a smirk tugging at the side of my lips.
“Sapphire Vega,” I whispered under my breath. “What are the odds?”
