Chapter 003 ~ Preferring danger

1969 Words
~SAPPHIRE~ “Be careful in there, Sapph.” Leon said, worry etched in his features as I got down from the car. “You know how dangerous he can be. You know how he rolls.” I nodded, my face set in determination. “Got it,” I wore my gloves and put on a face cap. “You wait here. I’ll be out soon and if I don’t come out in a few hours, you know what to do.” Leon nodded, giving me a thumbs up. I turned to face the club building, my heart pounding in my chest, but I managed to keep it at bay. It was now or never. It was eat or be eaten, so I had to be brave about this. Taking a deep breath, I squared my shoulders and approached the bouncers. “ID?” One of them demanded, his voice sharp. With an eye roll, I reached into my pants pocket and pulled out my club ID. He snatched it from me, his eyes running over the contents thoroughly before handing it back to me. He moved aside and I walked into the club. Once I stepped into the club, a cacophony of thumping music and excited chatter assaulted my senses. A myriad of colorful lights—red, blue, yellow, and green—pulsed and danced across the room, creating an almost hypnotic atmosphere. The air was thick with a heady mix of sweat, alcohol, and expensive perfume. I began to make my way through the crowd, my movements stealthy yet confident as I navigated the throng of half naked men and women. My eyes remained sharp, my gaze fixed in a particular direction — the stairs. I made a beeline for the stairs, my heart pounding in my chest. I had to find the VIP room, and I had to find it fast. I didn’t have much time to waste. There were so many things I needed to do tonight. As I climbed the stairs, the music, and chatter grew fainter, replaced by the soft hum of hushed conversations and the clinking of glasses. I reached the top of the stairs and scanned my surroundings, my eyes adjusting to the dimmer lighting. I spotted a sign that read “VIP Lounge” and smirked. I was getting close. I followed the pathway that led to the VIP room, my senses on high alert. I could feel the adrenaline coursing through my veins, preparing me for what was to come. As I approached the door, I slipped on a face mask, covering my features. Taking a deep breath and steeling myself for what I was about to do, I pushed open the door and stepped inside. The guards stationed at the door moved to stop me, but I was ready for them. With a swift kick, I took down the first guard, followed by a swift punch to the second guard’s jaw. They crumpled to the floor, unconscious. I stood tall, my chest heaving with exertion, as I scanned the room for my target. My eyes locked onto a figure sitting on a plush couch, surrounded by bottles of champagne and scantily clad women. A sly smile spread across my face as I began to move towards him, my steps precise and cautious. He just witnessed me make a scene and didn’t even lift a muscle; he must have something up his sleeves, but I had more. “You sure chose the right place to do your evil deeds,” I paused, taking off my mask. “Alpha Thane.” I said, and his eyes snapped open. Alpha Thane frowned, disgust lining his features as his gaze locked onto mine. “Sapphire,” he called, shooing the ladies surrounding him away. The ladies huffed and after throwing disdainful glares my way, walked out of the room. “Alpha, we’re so sorry!” A guard rushed in and fell on his face. I rolled my eyes. “We should have been more alert! Please kill us.” I looked at Alpha Thane, a smug expression on my face as he stared at the guard with nothing but killing intent in his gaze. After a few seconds, he massaged his forehead. “Get out!” he ordered. The guard didn’t need to be told twice as she sprung to his feet and scurried out of the room, leaving me alone with the Alpha. Alpha Thane took a glass of wine and casually sipped from it. “What are you doing here, Sapphire?” he asked. “I owe you nothing anymore.” I scoffed. “You owe me a lot, Alpha,” I folded my arms, my voice laced with contempt. “I decided to forget about it for a while but now that your useless son has stepped on my toes, I can’t help but remember how much you owe me.” “Gavin, that asshole!” Alpha Thane exclaimed, running his hand through his hair. “But he is your favorite,” I sneered, clicking my tongue. “You and I know that piece of trash wouldn’t be where he is today without me. You and I know the person who deserves to become the next Alpha is Kaiden—” “Shut it!” he snapped, standing to his feet. “Do not say his name!” “Kaiden is your son!” “I said, do not say his name!” he growled, his eyes switching between white and Amber gold, but I stood, staring him down without feeling an ounce of fear or intimidation. I still have no idea why his Alpha aura didn’t affect me, but I was grateful because I wouldn’t want him to force me into submission. When he saw that I wasn’t the least fazed by his intimidating expression, he took a deep breath and facepalmed. “What do you want, Sapphire?” I chuckled, taking a step back. “Now you’re talking,” I smirked, my expression turning serious immediately. “I want you to change the rules on the day the next in line to the throne would be chosen,” I said and he raised a brow. “The previous rule was only made in favor of Gavin. Now I want it to be fair. There should be a test and duel between Gavin and Kaiden. That way, we would know who truly deserves the throne.” “Are you crazy?” he yelled, paranoid. He knew what this meant. I snickered. “I’m not crazy,” I answered, my voice taking on an icy tone. “But I will be if you do not do as I say, Alpha Thane,” I hissed. “Trust me, you do not want to see how crazy I can get.” “Sapphire—” “Don’t test my patience, your majesty,” I sneered. “I’ll be expecting a change that day. If nothing happens, I’m sure your people would love to know the kind of person their Alpha really is.” Alpha Thane clenched his fists, literally boiling with rage. “You’re blackmailing me, Sapphire. If my son made you angry, face him. Don’t bring me into your revenge plot. I have nothing to do with this—” “Oh, but you do,” I interjected, a frown settling on my face. “And this is the only way I can make him pay for rejecting me.” “I can make him take you back.” What a joke! “Sorry to break it to you, but I prefer danger to a daddy’s boy,” I turned to leave. “Remember, Alpha Thane, I’m your worst nightmare,” I took a step but halted. “And if you try anything stupid, someone is out there with your secret. If you touch even a strand of my hair, you will still lose. Don’t fool yourself.” With that, I walked out of the room. As I left, I could hear him growling and scattering things. I knew this little secret of his would come in handy one day. It wouldn’t be long before everyone would see his true colors anyway. Then they would know that he had been lying to them all these years. When I was out of the club, I took a deep breath of relief. ‘Sapphire, you’re a daredevil!’ I mentally scolded myself. I quickly walked to where Leon parked the car. “How did it go?” he asked as soon as I stepped in and took a seat. “Success!” I smiled. Leon chuckled. “Where to next?” he asked. I took a deep breath. “The Skull,” I answered, my voice barely above a whisper. Leon nodded and brought the engine to life, driving away immediately. The skull was the most dangerous club in Wolf Borne Pack, known to house mafia drug lords and all kinds of dangerous men. You’d ask why the club wasn’t shut down since it was dangerous but to avoid unleashing Kaiden’s anger, no one dared — not even the Alpha. Prince Kaiden might be all mysterious, scary, ruthless and heartless to everyone, but I knew that wasn’t the real him. A villain isn’t born but made. And though I’m going to approach him for my own personal and selfish reason, he deserves what is rightfully his. We arrived at the club and I got down, taking deep calming breaths. “Let me ask you again, are you really sure you want to do this, Sapphire?” Leon asked, his voice laced with uncertainty and worry for my sake. “Yes,” I answered confidently, and applied red lipstick before letting my red hair down in waves and putting a face cap on it. “Wish me luck!” I didn’t wait for him to say anything before walking away. I pushed open the heavy doors of the club, a wall of sound and smoke hitting me like a punch to the gut. The Skull was no place for the faint of heart. As I walked into the main room, the dancing, drinking, and debauchery surrounded me on all sides. I had to focus, keep my wits about me, and find Kaiden. The air was thick with the stench of spilled liquor and cigar smoke, but I caught a whiff of something else — danger. It hung heavy and tense in the atmosphere, like the calm before a storm. “Kaiden.” I whispered. I pushed my way through the mass of bodies, keeping my eyes peeled for Kaiden. And then, I saw him. He sat in a dimly lit corner booth, away from the dancers and partiers. He exuded an aura of power, danger, and intrigue that was impossible to ignore. Even from a distance, he commanded respect. Kaiden was tall, with broad shoulders and a lean, muscular build that hinted at a life of physical activity. His dark hair was swept back, and his angular jaw was clean-shaven, adding to his striking appearance. I approached him, weaving my way through the maze of tables. The closer I got, the more intense his gaze became, making the hairs on my arms stand on end. But I pressed on, undeterred. I had to be brave. He wasn’t that intimidating. “Prince Kaiden,” I said, my voice low and steady. “Let’s make a deal.” He studied me for a moment, his eyes dark and unreadable. “You’ve got balls coming here,” he said, his voice smooth and dangerous. “Most people wouldn't dare.” his lips curved upwards, making him hotter than he already was. I squared my shoulders, refusing to be intimidated. “I’m not most people, so I dare.”
