Arrival

Arrival Hanna I was able to convince my Mom to allow me to a sleepover with Lucy. She finally accepted after I told her that Uncle Jacob would love to pick and drop me off. It gave her some assurance that I couldn't understand. On the other hand, Lucy spoke to her Dad, and he was willing to lie to my parents for the night, but only one night. We were instructed to be back by tomorrow evening. As it was my first time leaving the town, I was beyond excited. Exploring Alaska and nearby cities was just the beginning of my dreams. I packed up a small leathered handbag with a few things I needed. I wasn't going to change my clothes, and neither did I need anything else, but I grabbed my passport just in case. "Yes, I will be done in just a few minutes!" I screamed through the door. Uncle Jacob was here to pick me up, it was 9 PM, and the bus was going to arrive at 10. The bus station was half an hour away from my house, which is why I needed to leave immediately. "Okay, I am waiting for you downstairs." My Mom said.  Once I was ready, I switched off the lights of my room and headed downstairs, where my Mom was waiting for me. She stopped me nearby the door and said, "Let me know if you need anything," "I will be fine, don't worry," I said while waving her goodbye. I walked out of my house and slammed the wooden door with a thud. I was furious, my blood was boiling, and every inch of my skin was crippling. She did lie. I never thought my Mom would cover up something so big. She put me through pain and acted like I was the crazy one. We were best friends. What happened to being honest with each other? "Everything okay?" Uncle Jacob asked as I stepped inside the car and sat at the passenger seat. "Would you ever lie to your daughter?" I questioned as he pulled out his car from the driveway. "If it's to protect her, then I would," he replied. "And what if the lie could hurt her? Would you still hide the truth from her?" "Of course not! If it's about my daughter, Lucy, then I wouldn't lie to her. If it changes her life and thinking, then also I wouldn't. Why are you asking?" Uncle Jacob inquired. I shook my head and clasped my sweaty arms in between my thighs. It was snowing outside, but the rage bursting inside me wasn't bearable. "Just like that..." I whispered while glancing at the roads.  The weather got better as we stopped by Lucy's house. She came outside and hugged me. We moved back to the passenger seats while Uncle Jacob drove us to the bus station. "Where are you girls heading to anyways?" he asked. "Just the nearby town, Baskerville, our high-school friends have moved there, so we thought about a reunion," Lucy explained. She was good at lying and manipulating, but I wasn't. If I told this lie to my Mom, she wouldn't ever allow me to leave. "Oh, that's great! I hope you girls have fun. Call me if there is any problem and try avoiding partying and drinking. We don't want that to be happening when you are in a new town with complete strangers." Lucy's Dad said as he pulled over the central bus station of Ostrich. "Thank you for dropping us, and I promise that we will avoid drinking and partying. We will hopefully be back by tomorrow evening." I said to Uncle Jacob before leaving the car. I grabbed my jacket and wore it before entering the bus station with Lucy. "That was easy," she chuckled with excitement. "Yes, convincing your Dad is so easy that I get jealous sometimes. I have to literally go through a dozen days of begging before I can stay out a night. Drinking is completely forbidden in my household and partying, let's not get there." I explained while walking to our bus, which was going to leave in a couple minutes. "Yes, I know. It's kind of scary how your parents won't let you do anything without their permission. You're eighteen now, an adult, you should get some space to breathe." Lucy remarked. "I'm aware. I don't feel like arguing with them honestly. It just creates more drama." I replied. "Your wish, but someday you will have to step up and move out," she patted my shoulders before I got inside the big bus. The bus was warm from the inside, the interior was a little dirty, but there weren't many people on the bus. Only a couple of them here and there. Most of them were ready to sleep or doze off into their own musical world. I took a seat by the window, and Lucy joined me. We made ourselves comfortable, and then the bus started moving. "Here comes a two-hour drive!" Lucy exclaimed as she pulled out her earphones. Buses were a no-no for me as they gave me this sickening feeling in my stomach. This two-hour ride was going to be torturous. I removed my phone and began to play some music so I could stop thinking about home for once. I wasn't doing anything wrong neither I was running away. I was simply getting information that my parents couldn't give me. Ever since that morning, I hadn't been able to sleep or eat properly. My whole life took a deadly toll since I was kidnapped. As a victim, I deserved to know why I was there with those men and what was the purpose behind this all. My head collided against the cold window of the bus. I closed my eyes and dozed off. — The loud chattering and continuous honks pulled me awake from my sleep. I quickly looked around to see that the bus had stopped and people were leaving. We were here. "Lucy," I said before patting her shoulders. She was sleeping soundlessly. "Wake up, we are here," I added. "So quick," she moaned before turning around and pressing her head on my shoulders. I jerked her headphones off, and she finally woke up. "We have to leave before the driver comes and asks us to leave," I said as I got up. I couldn't leave unless Lucy left since she was trapping me. Most of the people walked away and left the bus. I grabbed my phone and noticed the time. It was midnight. "Okay, I am up!" she exclaimed before getting her belongings. She got up from her seat and walked out of the bus. I followed her behind and left, as well. "Where to now?" I asked. Baskerville was blanketed in snow, the clouds were heavy and filled with water, the air appeared to be dangerous and loaded with smoke. My lips were freezing cold, and my body was quivering as I toured a small distance with Lucy. "Wow, I wish I was in Paris. It was so warm there," she sighed while trying to catch a cab in the middle of the night. "I wish that, too," I added. The cars were passing by, but there were hardly any cabs. The bus station was closing down, and people were leaving. "Have you had the hotel booked?" Lucy asked. "Yes, I reserved it earlier. It's just 10 minutes away from here, but we will need to grab a cab since we know nothing about this town." I said. After a couple more tries, a cab stopped in front of us, and we quickly sat inside. "Where, too?" the driver asked. "Atlantic Heights Hotel," I replied while glancing at my phone, where I had reserved a room for us. It was the beginning of a new journey.
