"What do you think I should do?" I asked Lucy, who was as worried as I was. Finally, there was someone who believed in me. I knew I could trust Lucy, after all, she was my best friend.
"Do you have any idea where you were held? Have you been to the police?" She asked.
Sipping on my warm coffee, I nodded my head, "I had been to the police, but they were of no use. They weren't going to open a case until I got my parents involved, and that was a risk I wasn't willing to take."
"Oh, what are your parents saying about this all?"
"They call me crazy, and all that. I don't know why they are lying or covering up." I shrugged. "But I do know the place where I was kept at. It was a warehouse in Baskerville,"
"That's like two hours away from here. How were they able to take you so far?" Lucy said with concern.
"I have no idea, but they had a vehicle. They kept me somewhere else in the beginning and then moved me again."
"Do you know their names?"
"Clearly," I choked out. I couldn't eat anymore. Bile was building up in my throat as I remembered that night. "Alex. Angelo. Bertha. These are the name I remember,"
"And you're saying the leader was Angelo?"
"Yes, he seemed to control everyone around him. I believe he was the one who had the grudge. He mentioned that my Dad killed his sister, and he was taking revenge." I explained.
Lucy's eyes widened with fear, her jaw dropped as she froze. "What?!" She exclaimed in denial. I acted the same way when that man told me that my Dad killed someone.
I couldn't believe it either. But not anymore.
"I don't know, maybe he did..." I trailed off.
"No, no way! Your Dad is a lovely man. Yes, he got off tracks a couple years back, but that was a long time ago. We were barely teenagers then." Lucy argued.
I shrugged again, "I seriously have no idea what's going on. That man did have a grudge,"
"What else did he say? Or what else did you see?" She asked.
"Well, a lot of things. I saw someone being killed in front of me. I don't know who that was, but he was shot to death by the leader. They had guns, and this power that I can't explain."
Tension rose in Lucy's eyes. She got up and sat right next to me. We were still seated in the café. The food we ordered had been served, and now it was getting cold.
Lucy placed her hand on my back and asked, "Did they do anything to you?"
"Apart from hitting me, they didn't. One of the men tried to harass me, but he failed. That's all. Thankfully, nothing else happened." I said with a sigh. I couldn't imagine being raped.
"Oh, I'm so sorry," she said while rubbing my back. "If you're really concerned about this all, then we should do something to get to the end of this."
"I really want to know who those men were and if they were telling the truth about my Dad," I said with a nod.
"Then we are going to find it out,"
"How?" I asked.
"A short trip to Baskerville won't hurt. I have friends there who can tell me about these men, but only if you're certain. I don't want to hurt you," Lucy explained.
"Really? I want this, I want to know. I'll be fine." I exclaimed.
After having a small conversation, we switched topics and began to talk about happy and funny things in life. Lucy continued with her story while I chewed down my food. After finishing, we carried our bags, paid our bills, and walked out of the cafe.
"Do you really want to go to the mall?" I asked Lucy. I was already tired from talking and walking early in the morning. The world outside my small bedroom was annoying and slightly dangerous.
"Not really," Lucy chuckled. "Let's go to the bus station and see if any buses are going to Baskerville," she suggested.
"Alright,"
Lucy and I walked around the town, we went inside the central bus station and looking for buses to Baskerville.
"Oh, there is one, but it's a two-hour drive!" I exclaimed while pointing at the monitor. The bus, E11, only came twice per day. Early in the morning, at 10 and at night, 10 PM.
"What do you say?" Lucy asked.
Curiosity peeked through my tone as I said, "Let's go, tonight,"
"Are you sure? What about your parents?"
"Don't worry, I will convince them that I am going to be with you for the night. You will have to say something to your Dad, though," I trailed off. I wasn't sure whether Lucy wanted to do this or not. I didn't want her to be involved in something dangerous and deadly.
The silence sparked some uncertainty, "It's totally understandable if you don't want to come with me. I don't want to create problems with you or your Mom."
"No, I am not worried about my Dad. It's about money, I don't really have anything in my pocket. I just spent everything in Paris," Lucy said. "It's a new town; we will need to book a motel or a hotel to stay, at least for a night," she added.
"What about your friend?" I asked.
"He's the kind of man you don't want to sleep with alone. I mean, he's old and all. I don't want to risk it. You're naive, and so am I. Sleeping in a stranger's bed seems off." she explained. It was understandable. I didn't feel comfortable in the first place either.
"Yes, it's okay, I have savings. We will arrange something when we reach there." I replied. I had enough money from my parents to live in a hotel for a couple days.
"Are you sure?" she asked. "Last time I heard you wanted to spend your savings on buying a new car for when you get your driving license,"
"No, it's okay, I have enough. I am not completing my driving classes right now, so I can spend the money. The car can wait." I replied. It was my dream to buy a new car for myself, but I guess that had to be delayed for a while.
"Okay then, let me get the bus tickets for the night, and then I will call my Dad and ask him to pick us up," Lucy said. "You can go home and pack a couple things while I speak to my Dad about tonight, I won't tell him the details though. I don't want him to get worried that we are capturing gangsters or getting involved with druggies," she added with a laugh.
I quietly giggled while shaking my head. "Okay, but the hotel and the food is on me!"
"Of course,"
Lucy went ahead and bought the bus tickets for tonight. My heart was pulsating out of my chest as I thought about what I was doing. Going to the place where I was kidnapped and kept? Meeting those people who kidnapped me? It was crazy and absurd, but my parents left me with no other option. I was bound to do something.
Uncle Jacob picked us up from the bus station after an hour, and we headed back to our homes. My Dad left for work, and my Mom was at home, cooking dinner.
"You came back so quickly..." she said while walking out of the kitchen.
"Yes, Lucy was tired, and she wanted to go home and sleep, but we had a lot of fun!" I lied. "She was hoping that I could come over for the night at her place. Could I?" I asked my Mom, who didn't seem really happy with my question.
"I have to ask your Dad," she said.
"Why is that? I thought I was allowed to go anywhere," I argued while folding my hands across my chest.
"Yes, but-" she stopped for a slight second and then continued, "It's the drop-off; if your Dad can drop you off, then it's not a problem, but he might be running late tonight." There was hesitation in her tone, which clearly screamed that she was hiding something from me. She didn't want me to leave the house for various reasons.
One being that I was just kidnapped.
