A couple days passed by, and the memory of being in that horrific warehouse began to fade. I stopped taking ballet classes and going out. I was traumatized, and no one was able to understand that, not even my parents. They didn't also believe me when I said to them that I was kidnapped. Whatever the reason was behind this all, I was going to figure it out, one way or another.
Notes and scribbled papers were scattered all around my bed. It was the middle of the night, and I couldn't find sleep, it was long gone. The weather was cold and stormy as usual. Alaska had never been warm.
I picked up a fresh piece of paper and began to scribble notes again. All these notes came to one conclusion.
I was kidnapped, and my parents were lying. They were covering up for something, and I was going to get to the bottom of it.
The location of the warehouse where I was being kept was still known to me. Bertha told me it was in a small town in Alaska. Baskerville. Baskerville was just a couple hours drive away from my house. If I could go there, then I could find out who kidnapped me, but I was too terrified.
I didn't want to face the kidnappers again.
A knock landed on my door, and I shuddered out of surprise. "Who's there?" I asked.
"It's me, Hanna." My Mom replied.
I quickly grabbed all the papers and hid them inside the duvet. I didn't want my Mom to find out what I was going. I got up from the bed and went to the door.
As soon as I opened it, my Mom walked inside with a tray of fresh fruits.
"I assumed you'd be hungry," she trailed off as she placed the tray on my bed. "You haven't gotten out of the bed in days, is everything alright?" She asked as she came closer to me.
"Yes, I'm fine. I need some time to rest and think. I can't take that nightmare off my head." I said in a sarcastic tone. They all believed it was a nightmare, but I wasn't a fool enough to consider that.
"It was just a nightmare, love, don't think about it too much. Go out, have some fun, meet your old friends and party!" My Mom suggested as I shared my worries with her.
I barely had any friends after school. The only one I had was going to be back in town tomorrow.
"Yes, Lucy is coming back tomorrow, so I'll be hanging out with her the whole day," I replied as I placed my hands inside my pocket.
My Mom's face brightened with excitement, "That's amazing!" She exclaimed. "Good, good, you should go. Let me know if you need anything. Rest now, and we will talk tomorrow." She continued.
I smiled and nodded my head. I waved her off, and she walked away from the door. As soon as she was out, I locked the door and crashed on the bed again. I removed the print out of Baskerville and marked all the warehouses.
These men must be somewhere. I thought to myself. I wasn't going to stop until I knew who was behind this all. Someone had me kidnapped for some reason. I was able to recognize those men immediately; they were at my house, talking to my Dad a couple months ago. They wanted something from him, but I couldn't figure it out since my Mom took me out shopping that particular day.
After going through my scattered notes once again, I decided to give up for the time being and rest. Tomorrow was going to be another same day. It had been going like this for a week now.
-
Faint whispers and peals of laughter woke me up from my deep sleep. I pulled the duvet off my body and headed down with curiosity lingering in my air.
Who was here? I thought to myself while looking at the time. It was 10 AM in the morning, and my parents should have been at work by now.
"Hanna!" Lucy shouted from the living room as she watched me step down. Excitement rose inside me, and I ran towards her. She pulled me into a tight, secure hug, and I embraced her back.
"I am so happy you are back! When did you come? I thought your flight would be in the evening or something." I said as I pulled away from the hug.
Lucy seemed slightly different, she was all grown up now. It had been more than six months that we hadn't seen each other. We were best friends in high-school but lost connection when Lucy left town. I tried my best to talk to her, but she got so busy enjoying her vacation that I figured out it would be best if we kept a distance for the time being.
"Yes, I had the flight in the morning, I forgot to tell you. But anyway, how are you? How have you been doing? I heard from Aunt Carol that things have been a little messed up for you?" Lucy started the conversation with excitement, but it soon wore off when she mentioned my Mom's name.
I quickly c****d my head towards my Mom, who was glaring back at me. It hadn't been a day back, and she already told my best friend that I was hallucinating again?
"Yes," I scratched the back of my head and continued, "Things are not fine, but I will be okay, don't worry. Tell me all about your vacation, how was France? Did you meet cute french boys?" I winked at Lucy, and she let out a small chuckle.
She slapped her hand on my shoulder and replied, "I will spill all the details. Let's go out and talk!"
"Wait, I have to take a shower and get ready. Have some breakfast with my parents, and I will be back in a couple minutes." I said to Lucy before heading upstairs.
Lucy lived with her Dad a couple blocks away from my house. They went together for vacations and spent more than six months there. She asked me to tag along as well, but I declined. A holiday wasn't on my mind then, and neither did I have any funds to go anywhere.
Lucy, Uncle Jonas, and my parents ate breakfast together while I took a shower. While showering, I noticed the bruises on my wrists and ankles, they were still somewhat visible. These couldn't be the outcome of falling from the stairs. I knew my parents were lying when they said that.
Wrapping the towel around my body, I walked out to the dressing table and began to get ready. The bruise on my cheek was still deep and scarred. That man did hit me, and it was a terrible memory that I wished wasn't the truth. I wanted none of it was. But I couldn't be that delusional to create an entire kidnapping in my head.
I wore my favorite pair of black jeans and paired it with a thick jacket. It was freezing outside like usual. Blankets of snow covered the entire ground. The houses were muddled up in the snow, and everything was cold to touch.
After changing, I wore a bit of makeup and headed downstairs to accompany my parents for breakfast. Lucy and everyone else was done with eating, so I simply grabbed an apple and joined them in the living room.
"Shall we leave?" Lucy asked as she got up.
"Yes, who will drop us?" I questioned.
"I will drop you guys," Lucy's Dad, Jacob, said as he got up and grabbed his coat.
We said our goodbyes to my parents and then left the house before heading towards Uncle Jacob's car.
"Where do you want to go?" Uncle Jacob asked.
I glared at Lucy, and she shrugged, "I have no idea, I haven't been here in so long. You tell me!"
"Grand Meadow Plaza, it's a newly opened shopping center with amazing cafes and restaurants, you will love it!" I replied. "I will let you know the directions,"
"Okay, then Grand Meadow plaza it is!" Lucy exclaimed with excitement. There was a bright glow in her face, she was newly tanned, her eyes were sparkling, and she seemed extremely happy to be back.
During the ride to the plaza, Lucy and I had a great conversation. She spilled everything about France and told me that it was a beautiful country. Everything about France seemed to be great. It was my dream to leave Alaska and travel around the world, but with strict parents as mine, I couldn't even step out without their permission.
"Thank you for the ride, Uncle Jacob!" I said before leaving the car with Lucy.
As I was starving, Lucy and I sat inside a small cafe just outside the plaza. We ordered some warm coffee and breakfast for me.
"So, tell me about yourself? What happened last week?" Lucy asked as she placed her hands on the table and moved her wandering eyes to me.
I took a deep breath and started, "I know it's real, and I know that my parents are covering up. I was kidnapped while I was going to the ballet classes two weeks ago. I was inside a cell, and there were three to four men around me. The leader's name was Angelo, and they all called him master. There was another woman in the cell, she wasn't locked or anything, but she used to get food to me. Her name was Bertha."
"Are you sure it wasn't a dream?" Lucy asked with curiosity.
I shook my head and rolled down my sleeves, "I wouldn't have these marks if this all was a dream. I have a cut on my chin, bruises in my wrist and ankles, what other confirmation does someone needs to understand that I was kidnapped." I had a panic look on my face, and the way I spoke, it seemed like I was crazy, but I wasn't.
Lucy narrowed down her eyes and placed her hand on mines, "I am sorry this all happened to you. I believe you and don't worry, we will get at the end of this together."
