Chapter 15: Final Goodbye

Day of the Assassination

Emerie

I had just put my daughter down when I felt pain but I blew it off, it was nothing major and I picked up my phone to message my husband to check up on him. He didn't answer me but the message went through so I thought he was still busy and then I heard Hallie scream in pain holding her chest. I ran to her and Omri was nowhere in sight, she started crying and one of the guards had tears in his eyes as he helped me with Hallie and said, "Go to the panic room, my ladies," I looked at him confused and worried so I asked, "Why?" He then proceeded to tell me what happened and I froze thinking about Michael, the pain I felt meant that he was hurt.

I was with Hallie as she cried for her father and I held her head in my lap, I was crying too, he was my father-in-law and a dear friend, I was worried sick about my son, he was pulled from school immediately along with Hallie's kids. I don't know how long we were in there until Drax linked me and said, "Open the door, Emi," I got up and opened it, I hugged him crying asking about Michael, and he filled me in taking me down to the infirmary to visit him. Hallie was taken to her room and her kids will be sent over, my parents are on their way to collect our kids.

Two Weeks Later

I was at Michael's side waiting until he got up but he was still out of it, Ty healed him up after he almost died and I was scared for him. Drax had returned with Aidan to find out what was going on and Toffe has left Ty to run things for now until Cayden returns. Cayden returned a few days later and was working with Ty, from the prisoner's blood, we found out that this was a hit by Esmerelda and she had made the first move towards getting back at the Fae Twins but she didn't know how deadly my husband could be. I didn't realize I had drifted off to sleep when Cayden woke me and told me to go with the kids to my parent's home where I would have security for a while until Michael woke.

I didn't want to leave but it was for my safety and I had to think about our kids, I told him, "Come and get me as soon as Michael wakes," and then I left to join my family. My father hugged me and we cried, he told me, "Michael will pull through, Ty already healed him," and kissed the top of my head, he always knew how to get me to smile. However, I stopped the car and told them, "Take the kids, I was staying with my husband," I had Bolt with me as we flew back to the Palace. I reached back and showered and Cayden smiled before I saw that he was comforting his mother. I went back by Michael's side until he awoke with me next to him asleep, I loved him too much to leave his side.

One Week Later

King Lucian Funeral

Michael

I woke up a week later to find out that what happened, wasn't a dream my father was dead and my brother was injured. He recovered before I did as I took a really bad shot that would have killed me, thanks to Ty, I owe him my life. Emerie was so worried as our 6-year-old son and baby daughter were being taken care of by Emerie's Mother. She didn't want our children targeted and was afraid until her mother took the kids deeper into an isolated side of the Fae Kingdom with our best guards and nanny. Emerie has been by my side since the attempt on my life and she became good friends with our maid, Kiara; Kiara is very good at what she does and I must say, she is beginning to grow a little on me. I saw Ty's secretary sneaking off to the bathroom, it seemed harmless but Addison didn't trust her.

I thought it was harmless until I saw her talking to a guard whom I don't remember seeing before, I know all palace guards but he could be new so I checked in with Omri. "Omri, did you hire more palace guards recently?" "No, my lord but some recruits finished training and were assigned to the palace since the former king's death," he replied. I closed the link and thought nothing more about it, I started to head down to where my father's funeral would be held as Emerie held my hand lovingly in support. I was thankful to see my friends and allies even those who were close to my father in attendance, I was hurting and I could still feel my family's sorrow. Cayden had Kaitlyn by his side as she clung to him like he was going to break and maybe he was, I would give her that for being there for him.

I also saw Allison with my niece and her husband, she couldn't keep her eyes off Cayden and I knew the bond was probably fighting to be close to him but they still had a long way to go with that stupid curse. Cayden couldn't talk much and I knew it was being televised, I was going to give a speech and not many people knew I could talk but they would find out today and I stood at the podium with my wife by my side. After the great speech I gave about my father everyone was crying and remembering the former King, we walked out to the pyre. Dominic second in command was next to the pyre, he was going to light it on fire when it was time. Cayden said his few words, and then everyone was able to lay the flowers and wreaths before Ezra set my father's body on fire and the boat sailed away from the river bank.

My mother was holding my hand for support as she linked me, "How do I go on without him?" I linked back, "We have each other, you will be okay," before I hugged her, however, I was getting this weird feeling that something was going to happen as we all went to the palace where the wake was being held. I made sure that security was in place and ready for anything, my elite squad was in the shadows just in case. I didn't trust some of these people, someone in the palace betrayed us and we need to flush them out.

The Wake

I was busy with handling everything and Pearson told me, "Relax, boss, we got everything covered, go be with your family," I smiled, hugged him, and walked back to where the others were. We were talking and I saw that Cayden had left and Allison was nowhere to be seen. Bradley had disappeared and I walked around to see if I could find the fool when the alarm went off and I turned around to find out that Autumn was missing. Allison was hysterical and Bradley had lipstick on his neck, I knew exactly what he was doing and I just let it go to find my niece, Cayden tried not to panic especially in front of Bradley because he didn't know Autumn wasn't his daughter.

I took to the skies with my Elite Team, they are the best of the best and we have a very good relationship. With our unique job when hired, we never lose our hit or we never miss our target. This situation was different, my niece was missing and a lot of people didn't know she was my niece for her safety. I trusted my team so they knew about Autumn's paternity and swore to keep the secret, Ty was with us as he was trying to get a read on the area but I also felt my brother's panic and I was scared for both of them. I am usually the quiet one, the one who never speaks unless I need to, I just watch and observe and there is something fishy about this whole situation.

I never trusted Bradley and only time will tell what we are up against, moments into the search my brother mind-linked me about our progress but I broke the news that we got nothing, I wasn't giving up and he knew this. I believe there is more to this kidnapping and I will head back to the Palace to regroup, we have traitors in our court and we need to flush them out. My brother doesn't even see the snakes that Lord Fehmir and his daughter are, they are threats to the throne and I can't wait to end both of them. Ty was pissed and we could feel it, this won't end well for those who ever took her, even my men could feel his aura from the distance, he was concentrating hard on the area to find his granddaughter.

I got the news of the former Fae King's death and I was shocked but had no real reaction to his death as I hated his son Michael for what he did to me all those years ago. I had no beef with Cayden but his second-in-command is the one I hated, I researched everything I needed to know about the Fae and as I watched the funeral and saw him, I knew what I needed to do. I made a call as I looked at his family looking all so grief-stricken but I didn't care, he owed me a debt and I was going to collect it if he died in the process even better. I made preparations for my guest, I smiled at the television falling in love with what I saw, I was going to the Fae Kingdom and getting what was mine.

I made calls to my hired guns and made a deal with the Rogue Queen, she sent her men to go and retrieve my gift and I was already heading to the airport to collect my precious cargo. Michael didn't know what I had in store for him and I will eventually collect what was mine, what was meant for me. I was in the air for a while now when a message came through that the men were in place and they would get my cargo, I told them, "I would let you know when I was on the ground," I couldn't wait to start my family and making my pack whole again.
