Chapter 9 The Link Between You and Me

Ruininki concerned stare killing me, my heart palpitates. I don’t know what to do, I try to get up but my body is not cooperating.

I’m shivering, I don’t know the reasons, my energy is back and its color is radiating.

“What is happening?” I ask, still laying in his thigs while Ruininki staring at the vastness, pondering. 

“Your energy need to stabilize for a while bare to by my side, you need to re-energize yourself,” He said not looking at my eyes,

“How long should I stay?” I ask, still hoping I get his attention,

“until you regain your energy” He briefly answer,

“Oh’ so it’s like charging myself, isn’t it?” I tease

“Yeah it seems like that” he simply answers without looking

“Charging myself with you” I raise my eyebrow

“You don’t have a choice, we are connected” Ruininki answers seems he is not interested in our topic.

“It’s easy for you to flirt with Miss Cheska,” I said in a serious tone, I don't know why it came out of my mouth all of the sudden.

Ruininki look at my direction, I finally have his attention

“You know what flirting is?” he smirks

“Yes, I know. I’m not a kid” I answer confidently

“Yes, you will turn in a fine Lady, you’re eighteen birthday is near” Ruininki thoughts seems like he is not with me

“Ruininki” I call him

He looks at me dearly, I’m startled, my shivering flesh slowly it’s calming but my heart is pounding fast.

I can’t remember what I’m about to say to him,

“What is it, Princess Mia?” His voice is endearing,

I can’t understand this feeling, why my heart beats faster.

Ruininki has a bad reputation, he is bad as what the Elder’s proclaim and my mother Queen warned me about him but a part of me, I can’t understand is soft for him.

I breathe and composed myself; I want to clear everything to this man. Ruininki is almost a decade older than me, I know where should I put myself.

I don’t have any idea how old he is but his system adapts the Querencia Kingdom lifeline.

In our Kingdom, our faces never show any sign of aging or wrinkles; our age adds up and but our faces and skin never wrinkled. It is something that Ruininki adores in our Kingdom.

Ruininki looks so young like he is 10 years older than me, that is how he looks.

Soon I will be eighteen and puberty will hit me, I will become a true fine Lady.

At that time I can’t help but think that I can compete with Miss Cheska and I will look prettier than she is and those thoughts make me happy. I smile unconsciously.

Ruininki looks at me, his forehead knotted “Why are you smiling?”

That is when It registers to me that I’m unconsciously smiling, I feel stupid

“Nothing, I remember funny things” I try to laugh it off.

I try to brush off the topic, “you said this is the place is your Passage, how?” I’m curious.

“What is the box that you carry?” Ruininki asks instead

“Oh’ that is some flu and cough medicine for the citizen” I answer him fast

‘Wait, I’m asking first” I didn’t even notice he snatch me the answer I’m asking.

“You think your Mother Queen will let you give those medicines to the citizen?’ Ruininki speaking to me but still staring in the leaves of the trees, looking up.

“I don’t know but I will explain it to my mother and what is the benefits if we use the medicine”

“Your mother Queen Rianne is the daughter of Queen Elisa before Queen dies, she orders to your mother to maintain the old tradition of the Kingdom and avoid changes. Your mother will not like the idea” Ruininki still looking far away

“You know my grandmother Queen Elisa” I stare blankly at him

I knew he knows my grandmother, I read Kenenkie’s journal, I know they are the Gifted from this World, Atracia City in the times of my great grandmother Queen Leonor and Princess Syrielle. 

I know but still, I ask, somehow I want confirmation,

“I know you're doing your research, Princess. I know by now, you know some things about me” Ruininki answer shocks me

“No, I don’t” I lied

“Why does it seems you know everything? Why did you know Miss Cheska? Why did you know I’m lost and she helps me? How did you know about that?” My head is baffled by too much information,

“I told you were linked, I stay in this place for too long; trying to regain my energy. I wake up one day and I’m revitalized. I know in time there will be a Gifted in your Kingdom the same as us. The only thing I do is call the one connected to me” Ruininki tone is serious while he is looking in his hands

I breathe deeply, “same as us” it rings in my ear but I can’t ignore what he confesses “connected to me”, I feel the need to ask him

“Like your twin brother Kenenkie,” I ask without holding back

I see Ruininki smirks “As expected, you’re brilliant Princess Mia. You are truly my link, you do things as I do.” he stares right through my eyes

I clench my fist, try to take a deep breath and look at his eyes

“I just heard the story, I thought it is some kind of myth” I try to escape the subject by creating a lie but Ruininki stares at me like he knows that am I not telling the truth. I slowly get up, sit up straight, and try to ignore his gaze.

“How is this place your Passage?” I ask, demanding for an answer

“This place harbors a lot of dark energy” Ruininki explaining to me

“This place seems nice,” I said unconsciously

“This tree is the only nice thing here” Ruininki blubbering,

“Where is the Passage?” I ask

“If you regain your energy, I show you where it is”

Nothing about Ruininki is plain, his eyes are mysteriously deep, his soul seems like searching, he seems to talk to me through his eyes, his gestures are gentle and precise, his way of talking puzzled me, his thoughts seem floating in vast air, he seems wandering and lost at the same time. When he is the focus and stare at me, he does look at me dearly and lovingly; my heart can’t help but somersault in those mixed emotions.

I feel my energy is stable enough, I’m about to stand when Ruininki offers his hand for me to get up, I find it sweet. I look at him and take his hand mannerly.

Before I forgot the box of medicine, I turn to pick it up but Runinki pick it up for me,

“I’ll carry this,” He said gentlemanly

He manages to carry the box only by his right arm and hand, he offers me his left hand as I understand I hold into it.

I smell a strong scent as we go on, I see the wall of the building is decorated with purple flowers;

“Cerulean” I mutter

“Yes” he simply says

“Why are so many of those flowers here?” I ask

“It grows where are dark energies is strong, cerulean grow and multiply where it can be fed by dark energy, the harmful scents affect human” Ruininki explains

I look pass by the flowers surrounding us, along the pathway of Cerulean flowers energy of circulating motion appears, it surprises me.

I’m in awe “How could it be?” I ask

“The dark energy that you and I have can create this Passage” Ruininki simply answer

“But you say you can pass through here by your own” I’m curious

‘Yes, I can but my energy is drained easily if I do that on my own. I need to stay here in days to energize myself” Ruininki voice is soft, he is holding my hand and I feel warm and fuzzy.

“Where this Passage will lead us?”

“Inside the Forbidden Forest,” Ruininki simply answer

“What? Why?” I ask in impulse

“The energy in the unfinished building and the Forbidden Forest has the same dark energy equivalent to the energy you and I generate” Ruininki continues walking without looking back but he casually speaking like what he saying is not a big thing for me.

“Why are saying all those? Why you keep on saying to me that my energy is equivalent to yours that we are the same” I feel bad for Ruininki to keep on saying such things, I felt it is unfair for me that they don’t give me choice and say that I’m cursed cause he knows and we are the same. It hurts me but I felt nobody can understand.

Ruininki faces me and stares at me blankly “Princess Mia, I don’t know how long it takes for you to accept your fate and know that I’ am the person link to you. Your path and mine are the same but if you want to convince yourself you’re not I’m going to let you but I will not stand here when you put yourself in danger. I need to protect my other half” Ruininki sadly looking at me.

“other half?” I'm shocked

“As much as you don’t want me, your energy and mine interlocked, it will weaken you being far away from me in a long period.” Ruininki trying his best to explain me things I keep asking,

I look down I never thought Ruininki thought that way, I hate that I feel guilty over it.

“It’s not you, it’s the dark energy and curse that I don’t want to be mine” I blurted out.

“so it’s not me” he smirks

I realize what I just said, I try to escape in the situation,

“I mean who would have like to have dark energy and curse” I quickly say for Ruininki to drop the first the thing I say,

“I will tell you one thing, this medicine you get, your mother Queen will not let the people have it. Queen Elisa her mother, advise her not to infuse changes in the Kingdom tradition and not to share their knowledge with the citizen of Querencia." 

“But If I talk to my mother Queen, she will understand. I will make her understand,” I say trying to convince him.

“No, she will not. Queen Rianne value the tradition of the Kingdom and her decisions is base on her mother who she fulfills the last wish as Queen Elisa dies.” Ruininki trying to make me understand the reason my parents might disagree

“But I want to save those people,” I said weakly

“You can” Ruininki answer

“Give them medicine but hide it and let them drink it secretly. Do not let your mother knows,” Ruininki suggest

Ruininki continues walking after the talk then the moving circular dark color energies are gone, the Passage slowly disappears. I look around and see we are in the middle of the Forbidden Forest.
