Chapter 8 The Other Passage

The sword I yield as I let myself bear the pain of the passing day;

I never mind, I do the training, let my sweat drips all over my body as I work till my muscles ache.

For what I know Ruininki is the person I have to avoid, he is dangerous.

Ruininki can pass in and out in the Forbidden Forest and it’s my fault, I don’t know how can I trap him again.

Ruininki never shows himself to me after we talk, I never feel his energy around.

My eighteen birthday is near and so is Siana; the palace and the Kingdom are busy preparing.

A grand event, festivities, the Elders’s, my father King, and my mother Queen talk about their plan for our grand birthday.

Siana delighted in what is happening, she is doing her service for the Querencia citizen, she comes with our mother Queen to give medicines to the sick and poor people.

My mother Queen Rianne is with Siana, doing their good acts, I remember how my mother pursues me to come with her to do the public service with the citizen like her good daughter Siana.

I decide to accompany them one time, It saddens my heart how ill and sick people in this place.

“Mother, can the citizen be cured by those herbal medicines that Kingdom doctor prescribe?” I’m curious.

“The doctor in the palace are great doctors, the herbal medicines they made might save them” my mother answer while she feeding one of the sick people.

“Might? So you’re not sure?” I ask

“Princess Mia” Queen Rianne stare at me and whisper

“not here Princess” Queen Rianne hush me

I stay quiet for a while and assist my mother Queen in all she needs,

I ride my horse and get away from the place, the next thing I knew I’m in the other Wold.

I change my clothes to camouflage in the people around me, I stand in front of the pharmacy.

I know this store, I know I can buy medicines for the citizens of Querencia and I have more than enough money to buy all that I need.

Our money in our Kingdom is gold coins and our palace hides gold jewelry and bars.

I sold a few gold pieces of my jewelry so I can have money I can use in this World.

I like this World, I'm fascinated with the advanced technology and studies. Life is easy here; I’m hoping that our Kingdom adapts the advancement of this World especially in medicine, to cure our citizens and not let them die in simple disease in this World but epidemic in our Kingdom.

I enter the pharmacy store, I bought a box of medicines for coughs and flu, I think its enough for the sick citizens who are need of the medicines. 

I decide to pay a visit to the kind Lady who works in the theater; the Lady I met for the first time I'm here, she brims a bright smile upon seeing me.

The kind Lady name Miss. Cheska, she has a beautiful name she becomes my friend since the day I met her. Whenever I go to this World, I visit her.

“Mia, I’m glad you visit me” Miss Cheska hugs me

I hug her back and excitedly stare at her face but she has a startled look, her attention is in my side,

“Hmmm” she gives a glimpse and smirks

 “So you have someone with you” she teases me while she looks at my side,

I turn around, my eyes got bigger when I see him, Ruininki is right beside me.

“Hi Miss Cheska” Ruininki booming voice is gentlemanly

“you know my name?” Miss Cheska smile widely,

“Mia, you didn’t tell me you have a fine gentleman with you, who is he?” Miss Cheska asks curiously.

I notice how Miss Cheska, tuck her hair in her ears, how she winks her eyelashes excessively.

Miss Cheska is flirting with Ruininki, I don’t know what to feel but something inside me is boiling.

I don’t like the way Miss Cheska gets Ruininki attention while he seems to enjoy it, she stares at him like I was not there and Ruininki stares back deeply into her eyes.

I don’t like the way Ruininki treats her, he sees her in the first time but he acted that way, I don’t like him flirting back.

“Oh, wait am I jealous?” I ask myself,

“No, I can’t be” I hush myself, talking to myself internally,

Ruininki is a decade older than me, he is the Gifted in the time of great Queen Leonor, my great grandmother. I remember he belongs to this World, this is his real home Atracia City, not our Kingdom Querencia, it irritates me more to think that Miss Cheska and Ruiniki are the same kind than me and Ruininki.

I cut myself from thinking, there are so many thoughts in my head.

Ruininki and Miss Cheska are now talking when I snap in my thoughts,

“You didn’t tell me you have a handsome Uncle” Miss Cheska wide eyes and grin greets me.

“Uncle” I’m lost in thought when I realize Miss Cheska referring to Ruininki,

“What? Uncle” I look at Ruininki, eyebrow-raising, my mind can’t comprehend what they are saying,

“So you are the guardian of Mia while she’s here; I see, you have a kinda old taste in fashion” Miss Cheska laughs timidly, she seems acting shyly

“Yes, I’m not good at that, well for someone who suddenly has a niece to take care of and been single for long, I let her wear the dress that is available in the house dresser. I think it is my mother's dress.” Ruininki laughs as his eyes become crescent.

I never witness Ruininki laugh that way since I met him, only today. It makes me bitter that Miss Cheska can make him smile that way while I can’t.

I take a deep breath since I can’t take the sight of the two of them talking flirty at each other in front of me, they seem to enjoy the time of their life, I cross my arm and decides to ride Ruininki's game,

“Uncle I think it’s time for you to go home,” I said trying not to gulp, referring Ruininki as my Uncle makes me cringe.

I don’t know what to do, I don't have any idea why Ruininki is here;

“Oh, yeah, my niece needs to do her school work. She drops by to visit you. She can’t forget you ever since that day she is lost. You’ve been kind.” Ruininki said it pleasingly

“Oh’ No, don’t mention it. It’s my pleasure” Miss Cheska said shyly

It’s startled me, Ruininki knows I get lost in this World and Miss Cheska helps me.

Miss Cheska hurriedly walks in front of me and hold my hand “You know you can always come here and visit me, tag your Uncle along.” she said shyly

My thoughts are lost, Miss Cheska talking to me kindly, holding my hand but I can't help feeling this way,

“You like him?” I ask out of nowhere,

Miss Cheska seems startled but smile to me sweetly,

“Ah” she hides her face and blush

“He is handsome and such a gentleman” Miss Cheska whisper to me

I feel my heart pinch, I don’t want to entertain the idea that Miss Cheska is interested in Ruininki,

“Well Miss Cheska; I’m warning you now, he is bad” I blurted out

“What? Why did you say that? He is your Uncle?” Miss Cheska surprised.

“That’s is the reason I’m saying this to you. I don’t want you to be a victim of him. He is a player and he will only break your heart” I warn her and I sound desperate; luckily Ruininki is far enough from us to hear both of us talking.

Ruininki is flirting smiling to other girls around the theater, I catch it and I take that as a chance to expose what I say is real.

I immediately tap Miss Cheska and says “Look” while pointing my fingers to Ruininki spot,

I expect Miss Cheska will react to me and say I’m right and will thank me that I expose him early but she shyly blushes, I turn around and Ruininki staring lovingly to Miss Cheska.

I’m so mad and my anger about to burst but I remember I’ am a Princess, I will not be furious over a peasant in front of me is flirting.

“I’m going home,” I said

“Miss Cheska, I will see another time,” I say as I lift my box, I walk fast and leave my so-called Uncle behind.

“We will be going Miss Cheska” I heard the smooth voice of Ruininki,

I’m carrying the box of medicine of both my hand when Ruininki stop in front of me

“Let me carry it”

I pass through him and ignore him

“I know I say to you that I will not show my face and leave you be until you made up your mind but you have to realize being away from each other long enough weakens both of us.” Ruininki trying to persuade me to listen to him

I stop my track “What do you mean?” I face him

Ruininki come near me and almost whisper to me, “I cross the Passage cause you might not able to come back to the Kingdom if I didn’t follow you” his voice is firm

“What are you talking about? I don’t understand” I ask him

“Your energy is weak, don’t you notice” Ruininki is whispering in my ears,

I feel my energy, I look at it, it’s vibrant color blue is not radiantly visible in my eyes.

“why? What is happening?” I ask curiously as I see the white energy fading

“Come with me” Ruiniki whisper as he passes by me.

I can see my energy color changes to white and it’s weakening, I follow Ruininki, every step I feel my feet are heavy. I’m gasping.

Ruininki direction is not the Passage where Master Arruis guards, he goes in the unfinished abandoned building (part of the amusement park). Lack of budget is the reason the building remains that way until plants grow inside the building that becomes the shade to the build walls without proper roofs.

No one dares to enter the building, everyone is scared in that place, there’s a rumor that it is haunted.

I’ am not scared, I follow Ruininki, carrying the box of medicines in my arms. My knees are weak for walking. I know I will collapse if my energy is draining.

I didn’t remember anything, I open my eyes. The first thing I saw is Ruininki concerned look.

“Princess Mia how do you feel?” his booming voice is still relaxing,

I look around, I notice the big tree that shading our spot. Ruininki sits comfortably under the big shade tree, there’s a ray of sunlight that beams through the leaves of the trees.

I wonder where I’ am, I’m laying in the cemented floor where the leaves that fall from the trees through the years become my a soft bed to rest and lay my tired body.

My head is laying in Ruininki thighs, I look at him bewildered,

“Where are we?” I ask I can’t stand yet.

“We are in my sanctuary where I regain my energy,” Ruininki says while his eyes are closed.

“This is my Passage without any Guardian. I can pass through the Kingdom and come back in my own choice.” Ruininki calmly says.

“Your Passage? How come this is your Passage? How?” I ask to confuse

“My energy is stronger in this place, look at your energy now,” Ruininki says staring deeply in my eyes,

I look at my hands and see my energy is back to color dark blue and once again radiating.

“How come this happen?” I look at Ruininki quizzical.
