Chapter 9 - “I Want You Now.”

1156 Words
"We should head to the bar downtown, all of us. There's food at the bar—we can eat, have a bit of fun, drink and then come back home." "Tessa," Ally's father, Mike, said, "it's a school night." "Obviously we're not getting plastered. Maybe we don't need to drink then, maybe we can just dress up and eat at the bar. There's pool, I want to play a few rounds against Kane." "Oh it's on Mom." Tessa nudged him and they both chuckled before returning their focus on Mike. Mike was not as strict as he appeared to be. He was an elegant man with white strands that covered his hair, wrinkles at the edge of his eyes and a very small beard. He had lots of weight and most of it resided all in his stomach, but he never cared since Tessa was gorgeous and adored him the way he was. He was about the same height as Kane, maybe an inch shorter, but they always battled to see who was taller and sometimes, it did appear as if Mike was. His face was very sharp, and he always seemed angry but he never was, one of the most kindest man Kane could admit to have ever met. That was why it wasn't hard to convince him that even if it was a school night and the kids drank too much, missing one day of school wouldn't kill neither of them. That was how they decided to dress nicely and head to the bar. Kane wore a burgundy shirt with khakis, a gold chain around his neck and he sleeked his hair backwards. Ally wore a black romper and her hair fixed into an elegant bun, Tessa wore a long sundress and Mike was the only one who didn't really dress up, wearing a white shirt and a pair of sweats. They headed inside the bar, all showing their IDs before they found an empty booth and was allowed to be seated. Their conversations were always interesting, Kane talking about people he met and Ally interfering each few seconds. The worse was Kane admitted to his conversation with Jasper about Jamie, and when Mike laughed, Tessa smacked him on the arm, furrowing her brows and hissing, "Don't encourage that behaviour." Mike smiled, "He basically didn't do anything." "That's what I'm saying," Kane raised his eyebrows, pointing to Ally and his mother, "Girls are just too over sensitive." "If she started crying, then she was hurt," Tessa explained. "She wasn't cryi—" "She was so near tears Kane, I'm so shocked you didn't notice that." "Well," Kane shrugged his shoulders, "it is what it is, I don't think I did anything wrong." "You didn't," Mike winked, to which Tessa disapproved. The night was relaxing, Mike and Tessa eventually making their way to the dance floor and dancing along with the rhythm to whatever song was playing. Ally decided to head to the bar and Kane followed, pitching in for a few shots, just enough to feel buzzed but not drunk. They were chatting with the bartender, Ally taking control of the conversation to maybe get free drinks, when Kane noticed something from the corner of his eyes. There was a pool table at the corner of the bar, but it wasn't the pool table that grabbed his attention. It was the blond curls that emerged slightly within the crowd. Instantly, he bolted from Ally and made his way to the pool table, squeezing through the men surrounding the table when he finally made his way to the players. That was what Jay did most of his nights. Instead of spending them alone, he headed to the bar downtown and spent hours beating person after person, easily messing their souls and taking on anyone else that attempted to challenge him. He had been there for about two hours already, and he was going to leave in a few minutes when he felt a tap on his shoulder. When he turned and realized it was Kane, he lost focus of the game and felt his heart immediately warm, "Kane, what are you doing here?" "My family came here for diner and a night out," he replied, pointing to the pool table. "You came to play?" "Yea, for a little bit." "You fingers are shaking—you've been playing for while haven't you?" "To be honest, yes," and that caused Kane to smile. He grabbed the cue stick from Jay's hands, "Your hands are red too. How about we take a small break; I'll buy you a drink." Jay did not hesitate to pass on his cue stick, and they both headed for the bar, Kane throwing a few bills onto the counter and receiving a glass of a mixed drink. He handed one to Jay who thanked him, shoving his straw through the ice cubes. Ally, who noticed them together at the bar, quietly returned to her booth without greeting Jay. They sat on the stools, Kane offering to help when Jay struggled to reach the seat, and to which Jay shoved his hand away, narrowing his eyes when Kane began to laugh. As the night went on, they watched the baseball game on television before Jay was the one to start the conversation. "Where are you from?" "From Landry, it's about six hours away," he faced him, taking a sip of his drink before returning his eyes to the television. Jay nodded his head, "I've been there once for about a month." "For a whole month?" he raised an eyebrow. There was barely anything in Landry. Although it was a city, there were no casinos and only two clubs downtown that everyone headed to. The rest were agricultural fields, industrial buildings and in the center of downtown, one humongous skyscraper for the business workers. Nothing in that city had attracted even Kane to stay. "Why a month?" "My mom's ex-boyfriend lived there, so I stayed with him for a month." "That's random," Kane faced him, noticing that he was starting to get a bit fidgety, "why d'you stay with him?" Jay sighed, "Basically my mom just didn't want me anymore, so she asked me to move in with him." "That's stupid, you're a cool guy." Kane placed his hand behind Jay's neck, giving him a comforting squeeze, "If I was your mom I'd want you. I want you now and I'm not even your mom." Jay felt his heart skip a beat, the warmth from Kane's soft touch on the delicate sensitive skin of his neck causing his entire nerves to run wild. And although Kane laughed, obviously joking with his last comment, Jay felt as if it had been real, or at least begged for it to be real. But it wasn't, and Kane was simply joking. And it was confirmed when Kane said, "I'm kidding, but you seem alright now so I'm glad."
