"You look awful," Ally grimaced when she watched gloomy Kane enter the classroom. "What happened to you during lunch? I saved your meal if you want any."
"No," Kane placed his palm on his stomach, "I ate macaroni and cheese."
When she realized what he meant, she rolled her eyes and waved a dismissive hand, "Stop being dramatic, that's a good meal. Who gave it to you?"
"Jay," Kane admitted, and instantly Ally's face fell. Before she could reply, a chaos entered the classroom, two football players with varsity jackets on with each other on their backs, horseback riding inside the home. Behind them followed Jamie, who laughed with them until she met the navy gaze of Kane, and when she saw a free seat beside him, Kane curse under his breath when he knew that's where she would decide to sit.
Fortunately, Jasper took that seat first, and eyed Kane strangely for a moment before he said, "I feel like I met you before."
Kane forced a smile, "I was at your party, in the kitchen. You were kind of hostile until I said—"
"Ally is your step-sister, right," he reached over and patted Kane on the back, a bit too hard that Kane was seconds from doing the same but purposely hurtful, to which he didn't, "Ally's the sweetest girl ever. We dated a few months back, remember those golden days, Ally?"
He wiggled his eyebrows, and Ally ignored him, glancing anywhere else but him. Kane glanced between the two, feeling something being off and Ally seemed strangely uncomfortable. That was why Kane instantly shut down the conversation, "Hey, that's still my step-sister. We're not going to talk about her like she's another random girl you hook up with."
Jasper nodded his head, "You're right, no worries I understand that's disrespectful to you." He then glanced towards Jamie and said, "Besides, I hooked up with her whole squad already so it doesn't matter."
"Can we change the subject, jackass?" Jamie hissed, noticing the eyes Kane sent her before he turned away. "That was weeks ago."
"That was literally two days ago at that party."
Kane widened his eyes in shock, turning to Jamie with a smirk, "Was it after or before we hooked up in the bathroom?"
"You guys hooked up too?" Jasper laughed, pointing between the two.
Kane waved his hand, "Same party."
"Always knew Jamie was a slut—"
"Jasper," Ally interrupted their conversation, noticing Jamie's eyes start twinkling and reaching for Kane's arm. When she met Jasper's gaze, she snapped, "Leave us alone. Kane, you're better than that."
"I never said she was a slut, he did."
"Just speaking the facts," Jasper smiled.
Ally shook his head, "Stop entertaining him."
Before their little argument could continue, the teacher finally spoke and the classroom was in session. But the whole time, Ally kept sending glares to Kane that he gulped, knowing he would not hear the end of it later.
After their class, Jamie left quickly and did not speak to Ally nor Kane, and Ally punched Kane on the shoulder, "Why did you condone him being rude to her?"
"Jamie's your friend Ally, not mine." Kane frowned, tired of being scolded by Ally. First she didn't want him to be friends with Jay, and now she had a problem with a conversation Jasper started, and regardless, he wasn't the one that insulted Jamie. "I didn't do anything wrong, I was talking to another guy, that's all."
"Whatever, our next class is art."
"Why did we choose art again?"
"Because you needed an elective, and that was the only one they offered that could fit our schedule."
When they reached the art class, Kane burst into a fit of laughter when he saw Jasper seated at the far corner with another one of his teammates. When Jasper noticed him, he waved, put Ally pulled Kane to the other end of the classroom, far away from Jasper as they could be. It was obvious Ally was attempting to avoid him, and soon enough, Kane would demand some form of backstory regarding their relationship, but now was not the time.
The class began piling up, and soon enough, the bell rang. The teacher was seconds from shutting the door when they all heard, "Hold on, sorry." They saw a hand push the door open, and instantly, Kane's eyes widened, alerted by the voice. The excitement brightened his face when he saw the frail boy with gold locks enter the classroom, and he noticed the way he shuddered once he glanced at the far corner where Jasper was seated.
Then, his eyes continued across the rows until he found an empty seat, and when he made his way past each desk, it was then that he saw his black haired friend smiling at him. Until he saw Ally sit beside him, and Kane noticed the look on his face changed. Instead of taking the free seat beside Kane, he stopped near the middle rows and sat down, feeling the burning gaze of Kane on his back.
