CHAPTER 10

1365 Words
Cassian Waiting till my drumming heartbeats calm down, I drifted back in the seat and exhaled deep breaths. Wiping the sweat beats from over the forehead and thinking pensively about the s**t that just happened. Glad that I no longer carry the same last name, and those testimonials were fake. My job is to expose such high end criminals and one of them is going to burn on tomorrow's newspaper and the social networks. With this proof in my hands, I am gonna ruin this woman’s whole career. I was relaxing when suddenly the car halted and I fell in the space between the two seats. “What the hell is wrong, dude? You almost broke my nose.” I whined about Otis’s driving. “Believe it or not, but I didn't stop, your ass would have been broken.” he said with amusement. I frowned and looked at him in disbelief, “what are you trying to say?” I eyed him with my narrowed gaze. “Watch your back, daddy! Your father in law is behind us.” he pointed at the back mirror and I turned my head back instantly. The frown deepened on my face to see the flashing lights of the car. They were selling sirens loudly on the highway. “No, motherfuckers! Not, today!!” I cursed badly and jumped in the driver's seat. Otis was shocked and went out of control, and moved the steering on to a deserted road attached with the highway. “What have you done? They will easily catch us here.” i screamed at him. “What did i do was driving and trying to escape, all you did was to jump on me suddenly, why the f**k did you do that man?” he was too pale to react now. “Guys! No matter what, i want that proof in one piece.” the guy in the cap finally broke his silence. “Then attempt to help us as well, no one gets anything for free.” I stared at him while driving and adjusting on the seat. “You could have simply asked me to hand over the car.” Otis said in a  monotonous voice. “Shut the f**k up, dude! We have a problem now. We can’t go back, all we could do is to drag them with us miles away.” I said out of my thinking box. “But why? We don’t have enough time. You better take this proof to our superior to get that lady exposed or it will expire, no use for us.” the cap guy said. I was focusing more on the road but his words smelled like mouth after sixty nine. “I said shut up, don’t open that juke box until you have a plan to escape.” I grit my teeth while putting more and more pressure on the accelerator. The tires were running on the dry and sandy ground, making the cloud of dust behind it, and then it was something that stuck in my mind. “Guys, i guess i have sorted out how to escape the police.” I said with full confidence. “Seriously dude? What is it?” Otis asked after coming out from the shock. “Just wait and watch.” I started with amusement. “If your plan is a secret, you should have beaten the drum about it already.” the cap guy said. And I rolled my eyes. “Just because i don’t own a woman doesn’t mean i don’t know how to f**k, now keep your mouth shut!!!” I narrowed my gaze on him. Don’t know but i was getting some weird vibes from this cap guy. Even i noticed Otis and him exchanging looks several times. I had this in my mind but i was silent like a sea before the storm, because acting rash will only create problems for me. Suddenly, I realised, I never mentioned Otis that I was going to for that interview today. He was part of my plan but he wasn’t ready to get involved yet, then how did he come to know this? And this cap guy! Who is he? I have never seen him before with us. Yes, we do get some agents along with us to work but he seemed odd and disinterested in saving our ass, but the recording. I kept drifting the car on the left and right side to create more and more dusty clouds until we found an opportunity to get back on the road and leave like a bullet from that place. Since the Police are following us continuously, i don’t think we can make it too far. “Guys! We need to leave the vehicle and find another source to head back to the agent Zero.” I informed them and they nodded. Instead of stopping the car midway, we jumped out and landed on the concrete road. I was rolled along the hot concrete and deserved bruises instead of medals.  Some parts of my clothes were ruined and torn while I noticed blood spots in frequent places, apart from that, I was all good. I got up on my feet and noticed both of them approaching me. “I think i can take care of that proof from now on, you go and get yourself treated in a hospital.” the cap guy said while I watched him fidgeting behind his back. “Seriously? That’s all you want to say? Do you think i am a fool? I will give this precious thing because you said you want it? Hell nah! Take it if you want.” I was challenging him. “Cas! Give it already, we covered you and now you can’t escape.” Otis said out of nowhere. “You? I never expected it but I wasn't surprised. Big money stashes can make anyone go crazy, and specially your greedy ass.” I was spotted right on his feet for believing him, trusting him in my game. “What do you think that you will get all the credit alone, like every f*****g time? We won’t let you do that this time.” Otis said while  stretching his arms and the cap guy was watching, there was a hint of envy in his eyes. I clearly know where was this going so, instead of running and fighting, I did something before that. I took out the chip and noticed how hungryly their eyes were watching me. “This means a lot to me but for the sake of everything, I will destroy it. Now i see how you will get your hands over it.” i said while glaring at both of them. I pressed the chip placed between my fingers and broke it without any effort. The amusement replaced my anger, frustration and devastation in their eyes. Before I could react, a severe blow was hit on my face, breaking my nose. I had blood pouring out from it and I fell on my knees. My eyes looked up and saw Otis kicking me on the nuts. I screamed and rolled over the sand on the ground. “Pathetic! I wondered how you agreed to work with a p***y?” the cap guy said while crushing my palm under his feet. “I didn’t befriend him because I like him, he was a useful tool for me, for all these years. Now his time has come and we should help him get retired from this job.” Otis was glaring at me and I was disheartened by hearing those words. My will to fight collapsed and I let them beat so I could die eventually. Maybe they broke a few bones of mine, but I was still breathing. I saw them making moves away from me, leaving me to die here, on my own. I saw the sunset, for one last time, until the white light blinded me completely.
