CHAPTER 15

1286 Words
Cassian Sunk in the tub, I was at least at peace, since I met this guy, my head and my thoughts are not stable. Everything is crashing inside my head and i don’t feel like i should give a damn but still giving it a lot. Why? Why does he seem so familiar to me, though we have never met before. These thoughts will make me insane, surely. Breaking the water surface with my skin, I came out from the tub, drenched. Draping the towel around my waist and letting my wet hair drip. Maybe it will keep my i***t brain cool for a while. Staring at my reflection in the mirror in my bathroom, I saw a weak Cassian. A drug-addicted, brat and careless person. I wish I could have mend up all the things in my life. Losing everyone whom I started to trust or at least think that they have a connection with me, it has taken a toll on me. What was Smith’s fault? He was a family guy and now he left them behind, alone and stranded, just to tackle them with their own problems. Why do we make a family when we don’t know when we are going to die? Why make promises to the people we don’t know we are going to see tomorrow? Why get attached with people who left us at some part of our life? Washed my face and went inside the room. I laid on the bed and waited for the sleep to take over me. These dangerous thoughts are manipulative, better be left alone for a while, at my own peace. “Cassian! Look! These plants you planted last week, the flowers are blooming on them.” Sister Abigail gestured to me to come to her. I smiled widely and ran to her with my small feet. My eyes landed on the little pink flowers in the garden of the orphanage I used to live in. I planted them, i want to learn gardening. Sister Abigail was there for me. She was everyone's favorite but I was hers. “Wow!! They smell so nice…” I wondered as I sniffed those flowers. “Careful little one, you should act so rash, always be a good observer first before you become a good listener, and act after you observe with your third eye.” she said while dusting my outfit. “Sister, why do you love me the most?” i asked her, actually, little Cassian. “Because, you are not an ordinary child, my son. You are special, you came from heaven, the star city where God lives.” she said with an innocent look on her. I stared at her face blankly, “how do you know that?” I asked her while being confused. “Well, a friend of yours told me.” she informed me. “I don’t have any friends.” i made a crying face because of my intelligence and advanced skills, no one wanted to befriend me. “You do, he is your best friend.” she sat down at my level and cupped my cheeks. “Who is he?” i was curious to know this friend of mine. “You will meet him one day, when you will be a big boy to understand and able to take your responsibilities, Cassian.” she grinned and shook her head. Since these frequent dreams distubed my sleep, I am not calm. Everyday or night, it reveals a different side of the part of my past which makes  little sense now, but still, i am left stranded to solve this puzzle. This man, Alarous, he claimed to be my guardian. He knew everything about me, all the small details even. Shoot he knows how i fight and is able to dodge my attacks so smoothly. And later he vanished into the air. What is he exactly? The way he is built, he doesn’t seem like an ordinary human. What is his secret? Why is he in my dreams? And if he is my guardian, then where was he all this time?  The answers won’t come to me, I had to find it out, and there is only one place from where I can extract information. Without wasting another second, I got dressed and left the apartment to see that person who might hold the key to the trunk of my doubts. Within an hour, I was standing at the gate of my old home, St Stephen's Children care foundation! The place I had left my heart. Opened the gate and went inside the orphanage. I was in the garden first and wherever my sight went, I found everything the same as the day I left this place. Nothing much has changed since then, except the moulds on the walls and long veins covering the railings on the terrace, falling down like a curtain. Walking in the old corridors reminds me of the good old time. I can’t believe I was just a toddler who used to run here, making trouble for the staff. The first time I got punished by Sister Abigail. My first encounter with books and education. From the other side of the corridor, there was an attached alley where I got beaten by big boys. Each place of this building had so many memories buried from the children like, who left it here after getting forcefully away because no one wanted you in the first place. My eyes fell on the shining black plate on which the name was spelled by golden letters. I knocked softly on the door and waited for a reply. It took a while for me but I knocked again and this time, finally, someone from inside granted me the permission to enter. As soon as I opened the door, my eyes locked up with her’s. She smiled watching me and I passed a side smirk to her. “Cassian! Long time, no see!” She stood from her chair as I entered her office. “Sister Abigail! You are still the same beautiful woman you used to be. I was thinking about the memory where I asked you to be my bride when I get married. I am thinking that my choice wasn’t bad.” I chuckled while taking a seat next to her. She bursted into a laugher and slapped me gently, “Cassian! You are still a naughty boy!” she glared but lightly. “All i have learned from you.” i said while making myself comfortable. Sister Abigail made a cup of tea or me and for herself too. She offered me the cup which I gladly took. The warmth of the cup is due to the water inside it and I was feeling intimidated by the memories. “So, Cassian! Why are you here? After a long time?” she asked me while talking a sip from her cup. “I wanted to see you.” i replied quickly. “That’s so nice of you but i am sure that you did not come here only to see me.” I saw a determined look on her face. I pressed my lips tighter and looked at her, “yes, you are right! I have a business. Actually, I wanted to know about someone” i said to her. “Of course, tell me, who you wanted to know and why?” she was looking at me with interest. “Who is Alarous?” I asked and suddenly, the cup from her hands fell.
