CHAPTER 4

The printed golden wolf emblem shone brighter in the reflection of the sun, slapped against the thick air above the pole embedded on the king’s camp. Drum rolls were beating and the soldiers made the official announcement of the little heir of the king who has finally arrived in the world. The progeny has been informed and the waves of jubilance spread across the territory of the King Omar. The news got flashed even in the holy palace of Olympus which baffled the thunder deity and he stood up from the throne to peek at the empty battlefield. “Zeus, I thought your strategy worked, then how did that heir get born?” asked Poseidon in ravishing anger. “Looks like I knew every detail of his personal life, when did he breed with a b***h? Do you think i have an explanation for it?” Zeus snapped furiously at him. “You mean ‘the she wolf and the queen’?” Poseidon corrected the statement. “Yeah, whatever! But it startled me….” Zeus looked worried with the gloomy expression plastered on his face. “What do you mean? Didn’t you leave Omar with a fatal wound on his stomach?” Poseidon tried to excavate every possible detail from his brother’s mouth. “I did but he is alive, what's the point?” Zeus was confused and shamed. “Maybe he won't live for long. Every passing minute could be his last, and then who will take over the throne and fight us? That newborn?” Poised chuckled sarcastically. “He stood no chance against us, it was declared from the beginning. But at least, his name will be written in the palace, on the tablet of the dead.” Poseidon was being humorous. “Yes, you are right! Let them celebrate this now and then, I will make them pay for wasting my time.” Zeus declared and left inside the palace. Alarous didn’t sleep for the entire night. At one moment, he was happy to see the face of the heir but second, his face got dulled knowing there is no chance of their survival. He was perplexed at the dilemma of whether to announce the death of his King to the army or not. The queen has delayed speaking about this matter but if the king didn’t show up this morning for the battle, the situation will get worse. The queen approached Alarous and he became attentive yet kept his head low in respect. His eyes were fixed on the ground where the queen’s feet rooted. “Your highness, you could have called me instead of coming here. You have given birth, though you need rest.” Alarous said with a polite yet serious tone. “Alarous, I could have waited for you either, but that will only be a waste of time, though we have already wasted the night. We should have formed a plan to execute Zeus and his army.” the queen snapped at him. Alarous was taken aback and his eyes widened in shock, “what are you talking about, your highness? The king passed away last night, it’s almost time to go for the battle, what do you have in your mind?” asked Alarous. The queen stayed silent for a while and started Alarous in disbelief, “what do you expect when the king died? End of the battle and surrendering to the Olympians? Are you a true wolf? I hope Omar didn’t choose you as his second in command judging your ideology on this battle, am i right Alarous?” she sounded a bit aggressive. Alarous was sweating and his throat was dried, “no! That’s not what I said but I am confused, your highness. I meant, if the king died then the next in line to the throne leads the battle, but the young prince is just born. Who is supposed to lead the battle?” Alarous asked boldly and sounded more serious. “I will lead the battle!” The Queen declared with confidence surging in her voice. Alarous was dumbfounded and reacted out of his will, “i don’t think that’s really a good idea…” “And who are you to say that? Have you seen me fighting before? Just because I am a woman and my job was to take care of my husband and my offspring, it doesn’t mean I don't know how to fight. Just because I used to work in the kitchen with a knife and forks, it doesn’t mean I don't know how to use daggers and swords.” the queen shot daggers from her eyes at Alarous, “i guess you have forgotten that i am a daughter of a blacksmith warrior, don’t you ever think i am weak. No gender is weak when it comes to threatening your whole entity.” The queen sounded more bloodlust and powerful. The voice makes Alarous, bow to her. “Pardon me, your highness, I am still grieving over the king’s death. I said those words out of my will, I wasn't supposed to say that.” Alarous apologized. “It’s fine! I am not angry, but it doesn’t mean I will let you go that easily for challenging my sanity.” the queen roared at him. “I am willing to correct my mistake.” Alarous said. “Great! I do have a task for you…” the queen said in an amusing tone. “Give me your order, your highness, I will make the ground and the sky one.” he said. “Hmmm… okay! Take this.” the queen handed the glass bottle to Alarous which had the red magical sand. Alarous was shocked to see the travelling sand. “Your highness, from where do you get it? As far as i know, the use of magical sand is prohibited and it is no longer available easily.” “You don’t have to know where I got it, all you have to remember how to use it and when to use it.” the queen stated which confused Alarous more. “I don’t understand…” Alarous looked exhausted. “I am assigning you a job which is very difficult but not impossible. it’s that only i can trust you for this.” the queen’s voice softened. “What is it?” Alarous was terrified but he was ready to take the risk. “Take the prince with you and disappear in a random time zone.” the queen declared and the feet beneath Alarous’s feet slipped. He dropped on his knees beside the queen and tears poured out from his eyes, “your majesty, i am afraid but i can’t do this. I made my promise to the king to never leave you alone, i can’t do this.” Alarous was devastated. “You have to, Alarous, for the heir of the wolf family. For your existence, for our community. For everything, you have to do this job.” The queen asked him. “Please, don’t force me, your highness. I can’t do this. I can’t take the blame for separating a child from his mother, that’s unjustified.” Alarous bleed from his eyes. “If you will not take this responsibility over your shoulder, then today, it will be the end of our existence. They will e*****e the young prince and make him their pet. Do you want this as his future, or you want to see him ruling over Olympians? You don’t have time to decide because I am going to join the battle, no matter what. I will leave the prince with you. It’s up to you, what will you choose. The future of Thesaurus rising above the flames or turned into ashes in the same fire.” The queen provoked Alarous. She turned her heels and moved to leave him when Alarous stood like a fire itself and stopped the queen in her way. “Your highness, I was born to serve the king. I never objected to any of his orders before but I made a mistake today. I am guilty of this but that doesn’t mean I will hurt Thesaurus’s empire. I, Alarous Vlahos, the right hand of the King Omar Thesaurus, chose to serve my queen, Alaine Petridis, and follow her order without objecting.” Alarous took an oath while without disturbing the eye contact. “Your majesty, i have decided what i have to do.” Alarous made the announcement, and the queen smiled widely.
