CHAPTER 33

Cassian. When the devil said that he isn’t done with me, he forgot to put ‘yet’ in his statement, because all i remembered was putting them on planks and all the warm up workout for the whole day. Sweat and work up, that’s what I did the whole day, escaping meals just to hustle harder and harder. Why am I doing this? Well, it’s simple, I have to save my mother. I have so many doubts about my existence and she is the only one who knows more than anyone here, even Alarous. Now I know she is alive, I won't be leaving this opportunity to get to her, even if it means I have to bring the sky down to earth. Swiping the sweat beating from my forehead, I rushed in the air, jumping on the logs as a part of my training. It felt like talking to the winds, yet it was so close to being in one heaven. “I guess we are done for today…” finally, ALlarous said those words to cheer my hell life. “Are you sure? I am still in one piece…” I rolled my eyes and passed by him. I heard him sighing a bit and uttering those words, “you are not alone in this, Cassian. Katia is giving you a tough competition, though she is just a human.” he looked deeper in my eyes before averting his gaze. I felt humiliated by his attempt to provoke me but he is right. Katia is doing better than me. It’s not that I am jealous of her progress but I am disappointed in my abilities. They said I am a child of a god, a wolf god, who was a king, but what am i?  “Don’t look so depressed, I know Alarous is being a bit harsh these days, and we understand his reasons.” Katia came to comfort me, like I really need someone to comfort me… “What reasons?” I spat quickly. “He had seen the worst things in his life, nothing to be compared with any of us. He is a mature and experienced person and that’s why he is acting persistent because he knows what a queen matters to a kingdom. These people have lost a great king, I am sure they don’t want to lose the queen as well.” she calmly responded to my unwanted attitude filled question. Though I realised that I was just acting up to be bold and strong, I am not. Alarous has seen so many things in his life that I am scared to ask which one is his best or worst memory. “I think you are right, maybe because I haven't been through those things so I don't understand the value of something. He probably knows a lot about this place and we are nothing but birds without cages but that bird doesn’t know how to fly. He is training us to fly higher in the sky, above the cotton clouds so we can bring the sun down to the earth. Aren’t we?” I said to Katia. She smiled and hugged me, “thank you, Cassian. I was feeling scared even though I pretend not to, now I am relieved that you are with me and together we can do everything. This training is nothing…`` She has a point. “Yeah!!” I nodded my head gently and focused on becoming stronger, for me. It was dusk and we returned back to the small village. The people around here don’t mind our presence as they trust us for being with Alarous. He seemed to be an important person. I wondered and thought about writing a book on him. There are plenty of things that are missing but learning can only make things easier for everyone. Who had ever thought that time could slap me like this? I was back to the place I belong to, but I know nothing about it. Back in Uchias’s house, I took a quick shower because wasting water isn’t something very ideal to do here. There is already a crisis over food and crops, and if they lose water, then they lose everything. “Hey!!” Alarous approached me when I entered the kitchen. “Hey!!” I replied with a hand up in the air. “Sorry for today…” he apologized, but why? “Why? Sorry for what?” I asked him. “Oh,  thought you are still pissed off…” I chuckled. “yeah, i was but i couldn't stay mad at you.. We don’t know what it feels like walking in someone else's shoes..” I replied calmly. “It’s a good sign that you are learning things.” he cheered me up. I simple nodded and took my seat for dinner. Uchias served us porridge, i want to make an ugly face but since i haven’t eaten from the morning, i guess escaping meal this time will be bad for me. The silence on the table was utter, no one spoke till I pushed my plate. Everyone’s eye was on me. “The brat child isn’t eating anything today? Are you sick?” Uchias commented. “No!!! I had enough and I am not a brat child, I never got anything lavishly to be called a brat.” i fumed. He laughed and patted my shoulder, “I was just kidding, i hope you will be fine tomorrow for the next trial.” he winked after putting the dishes away. Confused and irritated, I asked him, “What do you mean by next trial?” what is cooking in his mind. Alarous seemed to enjoy this. “Your training with me will be your trial. I hope you will give your best so I can judge your potential to be a warrior.” he said and suddenly, everyone snapped their heads at me. “Why does it look like a heavy duty?” I furrowed my brows and went inside the room to get some peace. “He will learn don’t worry, just be patient with him…” I heard Alarous saying to Uchias. “That's sullen. He doesn’t want to learn anything about his ancestry. I never saw a kid this boring. Like all of his will died before. If I find out my mother is alive, I will bring death to anyone to meet her but look at him, he doesn’t look affected by the news. I am telling you, he is a rebellious young man, that’s all. He doesn’t know how to put up a fight and you are dreaming of making him take Omar’s place? Huh…” he left because then I heard a loud smash on the door. The silence felt awkward afterward. I forced myself to close my eyes and waited for the sleep to overtake me and luckily, the exhaustion made me sleep fast that day.
