“Andrew! Run away!” Lilith pushed the older vampire with her remaining arm. Andrew, the name of the older vampire, frowned and glared at Lilith he looked exasperated that she could tell him to run away. The two vampires were not connected by blood but they became connected by bond.
Andrew was a vampire who had nothing to lose and all the violence he had been doing to either his own race or his former one couldn’t give him any more pleasure than it did before. He became bored and ignorant of the world. But it all changed when he met the dying Lilith in the slums.
When he found her, Lilith had a bite mark all over her body, her face was pale and she was shivering from the cold. It did not matter if her body was cold because she was dying or because of that harsh winter night. Andrew was sure that the poor Lilith had been preyed by a vampire.
Andrew shot her a stoic gaze before turning away like the bored vampire he was. However, hearing only two words made him turn back:
“Help… me.” Lilith, who was desperately gasping for air spoke, but her voice only came out as a whisper with her weak state.
At the time, Andrew did not care to hide his glowing red eyes, which was why it was too obvious that he was a vampire. However, Lilith who had been preyed by his kind was asking for his help. A human asking a vampire for help.
Interest sparked deep inside Andrew and eager to fulfill himself with satisfacction rather than his usual boredness, he walked towards Lilith’s direction.
“Do you even know who you are asking for help?” Andrew squated in front of Lilith and inched his face closer to hers.
“Can’t you see these eyes,” he pointed at his red glowing eyes, “don’t you think it shares the same color of the eyes of your perpetrator? No, it looks even similar to your drained blood.” Andrew placed his hand on her neck and wiped the single drop of blood coming out of the bite wound.
Smelling the sweet aroma of Lilith’s blood, he raised his finger to his mouth and licked his lips. Showing his every action to Lilith, making sure that she realizes who and what he was.
“Please, help…” With no more strength to speak, Lilith stopped in the middle of her sentence.
Andrew tilted his head to the side and stared at Lilith. He could hear her heart beating slower and her breathing grgowing shallower than before.
‘This kid will die any minute now.’ Andrew thought to himself. He normally wouldn’t care even if someone croaked in front of him in the most agonizing way. But, seeing the lifeless little girl lying on the dirty ground of the slums, his chest tightened as if he didn’t want to see her die.
Andrew drew a deep breath and brushed his hair back. Looking aroun for any bystanders and after confirming there was no one in sight, he lifted Lilith’s lifeless body and made it lean unto him.
“I don’t know if you’re asking me to kill you or to let you live, either way I’m going to save you but you will become a monster like me feeding blood on humans. I do not care if you have qualms in me doing so.” Andrew spoke ever so softly.
He waited for Lilith’s response but to his disappointment the little girl could only stare back at him. Sighing, Andrew bit his tongue enough for blood to be drawn before brushing it against Lilith’s bite wound on her neck.
She had no reactions at first. It made Andrew think that the transformation was unsuccessful. However, a few seconds later, Lilih started moaning in pain as if her insides were churning. He held her silently and waited patiently.
A few moments have passed and Lilith’s tightly shut eyes linked slowly and as her vision adjusted to the light the first thing she saw was Andrew’s bright red eyes.
Andrew shivered after the recollection of a memory he had hundreds of years ago. He couldn;t believe how he had already forgotten that moment. The moment where he saved Lilith from death. And in this moment, if Andrew could ever read Lilith’s thoughts then he would have broken down already.
‘I need to give back the favor.’ Lilith’s thoughts repeatedly echoed in her mind. She only had one wish in this instant and that was to save Andrew from his impending death. She needed to save him just like how he saved her once.
Lilith could do anything just so Andrew could walk the surface for hundreds of years more to come even if it meant her death.
“Are you crazy? I’m not leaving you here!” Andrew grabbed Lilith’s shoulders and shook it as if to take away whatever thoughts she was having.
Meanwhile, Elaine watched quietly as the two of them argued with each other. She did not make any move even though they might escape a second later. This was because just like the two vampires, a distant memory had crawled itself into Elaine’s brain.
A dark wide room with no door in sight. She did not know if it was because of the dark that she couldn’t see a way out or if she was really trapped in that dark place. Her head rang and a shout from her left made it worse.
“... you have to get out! Run away and save yourself! At least one of us needs to survive and tell the-”
‘Ugh.’ Elaine grasped her forehead. Her headache which have slightly subsided earlier had returned once again. She turned toward the two vampires and gritted her teeth. ‘Who was that child?’ She thought.
Elaine took a step and inched closer to the vampires. Noticing Elaine’s movement, Andrew put Lilith behind him and positioned himself. Ready to guard Lilith with any attack that Elaine might launch at any moment.
‘I can’t defeat her.’ Andrew thought. His teeth bled because of how tight he was gritting it. His mind in chaos made his senses grow weaker. Elaine had already disappeared from his sight and the next thing he knew there was nothing but black in sight. Only Lilith’s distant cries remained bfore it was also
