She gripped the hilt of her sword, her guard up and her senses heightened to their limit. She glared at both of the vampires. The vampire child smirked at her while the other vampire wore a solemn expression.
"You seem to the lost in your thoughts earlier, Miss. What could you have been thinking to not even notice that I was a vampire?" mocked the vampire child.
"Stop chit-chatting and kill her. We need to leave afterwards." The vampire man spoke in a low voice. Stunned by his words, Elaine's forehead creased and thought of what the vampire meant by his words. The vampires would leve after killing her which meant that they came here for her life and not to wreck havoc in the island. But there was one question that bothered Elaine: Why do they want to kill her?
Her frown deepened. That single question raised several more after it popped into her mind. However, she had to shake away her thought because there were more important matters that she needs to take care of.
‘I will have my answers once I capture them.’ Elaine thought and positioned herself.
“Oh! Are you finally into it? Do you finally feel like fighting?” The vampire child’s eyes lit up and gleamed in the dark. Her ees turned from brown to red, it provedthat she really was a vampire.
Elaine had been hesitating if she would kill the child. Although she had killed tens of vampires before, Elaine had never killed a child vampire. Even though it was a vampire the girl was still a child.
Elaine took a deep breath and gritted her teeth. All oof the thoughts bothering her wre making her headache worse. She gripped the hilt of her sword and took a deep breath and without any hesitation Elaine dashed towards the child vampire and slashed h sword vertically. Her aim was to make the vampires unable to move to prevent them from escaping.
Elaine needed to question them about a lot off things so she couldn’t let them die nnor couuld she kill them. She had no other choice but to control her strength.
The child vampire’s eyes widened for a second. She couldn’t follow elaine’s movement and before she realized it her right arm was already missing.
“W-what…?” The child started to shake after seeing her own blood pour out of her severed arm. A second later , the vampire child heard a thud a few meters away from her.
The vampire child’s trembling eyes folloed the origin of the sound and found her missing arm wriggling like a lizard’s severed tail before burning into ashes.
“Lilith!” The other vampire shouted the child’s name. worry and surprise could be heard from his voice. Even the man who lived longer as a vampire han the child couldn’t follow Elaine’s movements. It was like she teleported.
The older vampire ran vampire child named Lilith and embraced her within his cold arms bu it was still enough to give comfort for the latter.
“It’s alright. You’ll heal right away. Don’t be afraid.” The vampire whispered phrases of assurance to Lilith.
Elaine watch the two ofthem with stoic eyes before slashing her sword sideways. the blood splattered on the ground like an ink staining a paper. She was in her battle mode which meant that her senses were not like a ordinary humans.
“Are you sure about that?” Elaine almost sounded aas if sh was mocking the older vampire’s assurance to the child. Elaine have heard his whispers.
“What?!” The older vampire snapped his had towards Elaine and threw daggers at her with his gaze. Elaine remained stoic and glanced at Lilith’s missing right arm.
“You can never regenerate your arm again. Once you’ve touched my blade, no wounds would heal. You have picked the wrong opponent.” Elaine stated and marched closer to the two vampires clinging to each other.
Her demeanor showed no trace of her behavior from earlier as if she had become someone different. Elaine stopped on her tracks a few feet away from them.
“Didn’t you know why no vampires could ever leave this place?” Elaine threw a question at the two vampires.
The older vampire’s eyes squinted as he continued to soothe Lilith as if the pain she was feeling right now would be goneif he did so. As he soothed the younger vampire, his head tried to look for answers for elaine’s question.
Why haven’t the vampires who have come here never return to the mainland? The vampires who have came to this island because either because they thought that they could freely eat their fill or because the Church’s influence couldn’t reach such a desolate place have never been able to communicate with ever again. No rumos nor reports about how they were doing in this island.
The older vampire finally found the answer. It was because Elaine was here. He had no idea if the Church have put one of its paladins in this useless place but Elaine’s existence was a living poof to it. He also became certain that this place wasn’t so desolate nor useless at all.
‘The Church is hiding something here. Something that could change the world.’ The older vampire speculated as his glare slowly dissipated. ‘They were wrong. This place is not somewhere they could easily mess with.. This mission i a failure. We should retreat-’
The older vampire grabbed Lilith and tightened his embrace, ready to escape. However,
“Did you really think I would just let you leave like this without doing anything?” Elaine had already anticipated his movements and prepared ahead of time.
Elaine raised her sword and swuch it down upon the older vampire. Her movements showed ni hesitation as she cut off both of the vampire’s legs.
The silent night were soon followed by the vampires screams of agony and Lilith’s cry of despair.
