Chapter 5 

Lorie Dhel

When Alexis reached their house, he still couldn’t take off the smile in his face. Amuse na amuse siya sa babae na kakakilala niya lang kanina. Masyado itong bubbly at easy kasama. Nakakatuwa siguro itong kasama sa bahay o kahit saan.

Napailing nalang si Alexis at iwinaglit sa isipan niya ang babae. Bakit nga ba niya naiisip ito? He must be crazy to think about a stranger he just met on the road. It’s unusual of him to think of a girl he just met. Pinaglaruan nalang ni Alexis ang hawak na susi ng kotse at pumasok na sa loob ng bahay.

Sumalubong sa kaniya pagkapasok ang ama na nakaupo sa mala tronong upuan nito at hawak-hawak nito ang sariling baston.

“Father, aren’t you supposed to be resting now?” he asked his father and started to walk near him. He grab his right hand and he led it to his forehead as a sign of respect to his father.

“I was waiting for you,” his father answered and withdraw his hand from him.

“Is there something wrong, Father?” Alexis asked and he walked to the opposite seat from his father then sat there.

“I need your help…” pagbibitin ng ama sa dapat na sasabihin. “…to find the culprit that is sabotaging my company. I will not tolerate it anymore and let that imbecile go. It’s already third time in a row now. I need to find that person right away and teach him a lesson.” His father continued. He can sense the anger and annoyance in his voice.

“I will look into it, Father. Rest assured, I will give you answers in no time.” He assured his father.

“Good. You only have two years left to attain this job and quit then you will be ruling our Empire.”

Alexis sighed with the topic again. He does not know when he will stop mentioning about it. He doesn’t want to quit his current job because he loves it yet his father want him to quit and take over everything he has, as his successor. He owes everything to his father but it doesn’t mean he will go and do what he wants.

“Father, I don’t want to be a Count. I am fine and happy with my career now. And I’m helping with the businesses as much as I can even if the board members doesn’t like me, and rub it in my face that I’m just adopted, nothing more.” He argued with him which made his father look furious.

“So, you’re willing to let everything go away, just like that?” his father tightly asked, showing hint of annoyance.

“Let’s not argue about this again, Father. You know what my answer is and it still stands.” He said dismissively and left his father there. He heard him utter the words ‘ungrateful, imbecile’ but he just let it go and ignore his father’s tantrum.

So much of being a Count, he doesn’t know how to act one. He was used in holding guns and going to covert missions, etc… not to sign papers, travel from one place to another and sit in your office the whole day. That is just not his style. It sounds boring and too much things to handle. And to carry the weight of such title is not really for him.

Umakyat nalang si Alexis sa kaniyang kwarto at doon nagmuni-muni. Pumasok na naman sa isipan niya ang babae kanina.

“Lorie…” sambit niya sa pangalan nito at napangiti na naman siya ulit. He wanted to meet the woman again.

“Lorie! I’m home!” masiglang saad ng kambal ni Lorie nang makapasok ng apartment nila.

Hindi naman maitimpla ang mukha ni Lorie na nakaupo sa sofa at hinihintay ang kambal na makauwi. Kanina pa kasi siya nag-aala rito at hindi niya alam kung saan ito nagpunta. Kadalasan kasi mas nauuna pa ito sa kaniya makauwi. Kaya nang makauwi na siya na wala pa ang kambal ay nag-alala kaggad siya. Kung hindi lang din kasi dahil sa isang sideline niyang trabaho sa isang resto bar magkasama sana silang uuwing dalawa.

“Bakit ngayon ka lang, Rovie? Alam mo ba anong oras na?” she angrily asked her twin sister the moment she sat beside her.

Rovie hugged her twin’s left arm and started to act child and rest her head on her twin’s arm as well. “I was going to your workplace but then I got lost…” Rovie hanged her words and then she continued. “Then bunch of guys tried to get into me but I ran off from them,”

“What! You were chased by a group of men? WTF Rovie!” Lorie reacted in horror.

“Yea, I was chased but I’m not done yet, so listen,” Rovie shushed her twin, ignoring her angry state.

“So yea, they were chasing me and then I almost got hit by a car but then the car owner get off from it and yelled at me. I ignored his remarks and asked for his help instead which he did and drove me home safely. We chatted a little and it’s very coincidence that he also live in this subdivision and he is really nice. His name is Alexis by the way and he is handsome.” Rovie was grinning from ear to ear after she told her twin what happened.

On the other hand, Lorie was speechless and angry deep inside. She exhaled and let out the frustration she’s feeling then hugged her sister back.

“I was so worried about you, Rovie. Don’t make me worry so much like that again.”

Hindi talaga kaya ni Lorie na magalit sa kapatid. Silang dalawa nalang ang magkaramay. Wala na silang mga magulang at tanging mga sarili lang nila ang meron sila. Isa din sa dahilan kung bakit siya alalang-alala sa kapatid ay masyado pa rin itong inosente at nakadepende sa kanya. Kaya mag-aalala talaga siya sa kapakanan nito kahit na ba matalino pa ito sa kaniya. She’s a grown woman she knows but, she still think like a child. So, she is very more careful with her.

“I’m sorry, Twinnie.” Rovie apologized to her sister after hearing the worry in her twin’s voice.

“Apology accepted, Rovie. Just be careful next time, okay?” Lorie reminded her twin and she hugged her tighter.

“I will be careful next time, sis. But I do hope no more next time. I won’t leave your side from now on.” Rovie assured her twin sister.

“That’s good then. You know, I promise mom and dad that I will take care of you and won’t let something bad happen to you. Watashi wa korosu kamo shiremasen.” (Baka makapatay ako.) Lorie’s voice held authority and danger along with it.

Basta pagdating talaga sa kapatid niya ibang usapan na. Nagiging salbahe siya pagka ang kambal niya na ang pinag-uusapan. Nag-iibang tao siya kapag damay na ang kapatid.

She is Lorie Dhel and she will protect her sister at all cost.
