Alexis
I drag Damian into the apartment where we are staying and point my index finger at him. 'Shut your mouth, Damian, my parents don't need to know.'
'It just slipped.' Damian shrugs.
'Better not slip next time, or else…' I tell him, hoping he got the hint to stop talking about my s****l life. It's nobody's business but mine. I'm not proud of it, but I had my reasons for sleeping around. What's the point in holding back from being physical? It's not like I will have another mate. The one I was gifted with didn't want me.
'Yeah, yeah, everybody wants to beat my ass today. I get it. Now, if you excuse me, I have work to do.' Damian says, throws his bag on the floor and opens the door, ready to leave.
'Why do I have a feeling I won't like what you are planning, Dame?' Finn asks while entering the room.
'Oh, you will like it just fine. I'm going to c*ck block Axel. You should thank me later.' Damian says with a grin.
'Are you for real right now? He waited for more than one year for Freya. Even longer for his fated mate. You can't do that to him.' I tell him furiously. I can't believe what he's up to.
'He can wait longer. It's going to be so much fun.' Damian shrugs and leaves the room.
'Or a bloodbath when Axel gets livid.' Finn states, shaking his head.
'Whatever. Bye s*ckers.' Damian yells from the corridor. And with that, he's out of our sight.
'Pick whatever bed you want. I bet Damian won't need any, he'll be staying in the hospital tonight.' Finn turns to me, waiting for me to pick a bed.
'Finn, what is it?' I ask him, changing the topic.
'Nothing Alexis, just leave it be.' He says and turns away from me. I caught him closing his eyes.
'No Finn, I know something is bothering you. I know you, you're bottling it up and not talking to anyone. So, spill the beans, I'm listening.' Finn turns back to me, looks at me and then sighs. He knows there's no way I will let that be.
'I've met my mate.' Finn says with a scowl.
'That's awesome… or it's not.' I add when I see the look on his face.
'She's older than me and I don't think it could work.' He says, running his hand through his hair.
'It doesn't matter if she is a few years older than you.' I don't know why age should be a problem.
'She's more than 100 years old, Alexis.' Finn says with a raised eyebrow, indicating for me to connect the dots.
'She's a vampire.' I say it as a statement, not a question.
'She's a vampire.' Finn says and covers his face with both of his hands.
'Does she know she is your mate?' I ask with curiosity.
'I told her. She can feel the pull, too.'
'Tell me everything.' I encourage him. I really need to hear the whole story.
'I met her near our pack when I was driving back from Connance. I smelt her and stopped the car. I didn't expect her to be a vampire! She was standing near a tree in the forest. She was like from another universe. You should have seen her. I approached her. I couldn't resist. It was like my body was moving on its own. I kissed her and she kissed me back. And then it hit me. She was a vampire. I have a vampire as a mate. It was like a cold shower. I told her that I couldn't be with her, that we were different, and it wouldn't work. And I left and never saw her again… I hated myself after that. Alexis, I can't stop thinking about her. I tried everything. I can't be intimate with anybody after her, nothing is satisfying anymore. I can't stop thinking about her lips on my mouth, about her sweet moans. Her cold touch was the best thing I've ever felt. I can't stop thinking about having her in my embrace again. I'm losing my mind completely. I don't know what to do. She's a freaking vampire!' Finn looks like he's on the verge of losing his sh*t.
'Did you reject her?' I ask, hoping he didn't. I know, double standards and all.
'No, I didn't think about it back then. And now it's pointless since I haven't met her again. I tried hard to find her.' He says. I'm not sure if he wants to find her to be with her or to reject her.
'Finn, don't you dare reject her! If you can't stop thinking about her after one kiss, then she's the right one for you. You're not the type to fall for any girl, but look at you, just one kiss and you are done with other girls. It doesn't matter if she is a vampire. Maybe it's the perfect opportunity for your pack to open up to other species and even welcome them. Once, you told me that you wanted to change the way your pack treated other packs and other species. The Moon Goddess gave her to you because you are strong enough to take a different path than your ancestors did. Please, Finn, don't throw this opportunity away, don't throw your mate away. You'll regret it, trust me. I know firsthand how it feels to reject your mate.' I', desperately trying to convince him not to throw this opportunity away. Again, I know, double standards...
'You've met your mate? And you rejected him? Why? What happened?' Finn looks at me with surprise written all over his face.
'He didn't want me. He knew I was his mate for at least two years and never told me. We've seen each other constantly. He was close when I shifted for the first time, but he wasn't there for me. He was in his room, hiding from me. And the next day he tried to go back to his pack before I had a chance to talk to him. Axel stopped him, and he just told me some sh*t, and I became angry and rejected him.'
'Who is he?' Finn asks quietly, like a beast ready to strike.
'It doesn't matter.' I know he wouldn't drop it that easily, but I tried.
'Alexis, who is he?' Finn asks sternly.
'It's Sebastian. Alpha Sebastian.' I add quickly.
'Are you kidding me? Do your parents know?'
'Nobody knows, only Axel. That's why I moved to Connance, I needed to get away from him, from... everything and start over again.' Like a human. I didn't add the last part, though.
'Are you sure he didn't want you? Did he tell you that?' Finn asks after a while of thinking. I don't know what is going on in his head. Most of the time, he's unreadable even to us, his friends.
'He didn't tell me per se, but he knew, and he didn't want me to find out. Why would he hide in his room and try to sneak out of our pack? He didn't even acknowledge we were mates!' I tell him, anger lacing my voice. Whenever I think about what happened back then, I'm either angry or broken. What did Sebastian think? That I wouldn't find out?
'Maybe he had his reasons. Did you give him a chance to explain? You are asking me not to reject my mate, but did you have a good reason to do so?' Finn says while pointing his index finger at me.
'Exactly, Finn. Don't you think I regret being so hot-headed and harsh back then? There are so many what-ifs that are constantly running through my head. Please, don't make the same mistake I made.' He's the first person I'm telling about my doubts.
'Maybe you should try to talk to him and sort things out.' Finn suggests. Yeah, well...
'What's done is done, I can't change what happened.'
'No, but you can still change the future.' He points out.
'I will think about it.' I hope that will be enough of an answer to Finn.
'Come here.' Finn says and hugs me. 'Sometimes you are too proud, you know that? Don't let your pride ruin the good things in your life, Alexis. And don't worry, your secret is my secret.'
