When I woke up, I was on my couch covered in my favorite blanket. I could see Liam pacing back and forth across the living room. He had his hands behind his head, and he was mumbling something. He noticed I was awake and ran over to me.
“Jenna! How are you feeling?” He looked concerned.
“Liam? What’s going on? The last thing I remember is being on the porch.”
He looked at me with dread in his eyes.
“Listen, Shain was…” He was interrupted by the sound of thumping and footsteps coming down the stairs. My eyes locked onto a black body bag on a stretcher. I screamed. I ran past everyone and into the bathroom. I slammed the door and threw up into the toilet. I burst out into tears and just sat there for a moment. I soon crawled back in to the living room and into Liam’s lap. The stretcher was gone when I returned. I could hear the sounds of an ambulance leaving with its sirens on.
An officer slowly approached us and sighed heavily. I recognized him as Officer Woods, a friend of my dad’s.
“Jenna, I hate to have to tell you this… but this is now a crime scene. You can’t stay here for a few nights. We’ll clean the place up for you and…”
“Shain’s really dead?” My voice was harsh.
He looked down at the ground and sighed. “Yes Jenna.”
“Jenna can stay with me Sir.” Liam interrupted. “She’ll need some of her things though.”
“Of course. Jenna, can you make me a list of all the things you might need for a few days?” Officer Woods smiled weakly at me. I nodded slowly.
“Let me take her back to my place and get her settled in. She’ll be alright for the night. I’ll make a list and drop it off at the station tomorrow?” Liam smiled at the officer.
“Here’s my direct line in case you need anything else.” Officer Woods handed Liam a piece of paper with a number on it. Officer Woods nodded at Liam. He smiled at me and made his way out of my flat.
Liam wrapped his arms around me and held me close. I took a deep breath in and sighed. Liam smelt so good. I wonder what kind of cologne he uses. I’ll have to remember to ask him.
“Well love, do you want to get out of here for a while? We can go rent some movies and get some popcorn...” He looked at me concerned. I smiled weakly and sighed.
“That sounds great. But I need my phone. I should call Bev, Shain’s mom, and see if she needs help arranging the funeral.”
See, the thing about mine and Shain’s relationship, was that it never went bad. We just grew apart. Then when I started dating Michael, Shian went crazy and suddenly wanted me back. I’m really close to his mom though. She is such a lovely lady and I can’t imagine what she is going to be going through right now. Shain was an only child. This had to be devastating for her.

Later that night at Liam’s I made a list of things I would need from my flat. I also made a list of florists that I could give to Bev. She said she didn’t need any help, but I didn’t believe her. I figure I would stop by in the next few days, once everything calmed down a little.
I handed Liam my list of things that I would need. Typical things like my phone charger, pillow, clothes and my teddy bear that Michael got me before he left. Liam read over my list.
“You named your teddy bear Jacob? Like from Twilight?” He laughed at me. But I really liked that book.
“Laugh all you want Liam, you’re just jealous. Oh, that reminds me, I want my Nook. I need to catch up on my reading.” I smiled at Liam and grabbed my list. I quickly wrote down a few more things and handed it back to him.
“How about that movie Marsh?” Liam playfully hit me in the arm. I looked up at him and smiled.
“Sounds good.”
We made our way to the living room. We decided on some action movie. I wasn’t really interested. My thoughts were racing. I lay on the couch and started to stare blankly off into space.
Just then my phone lit up with a text message, bringing me back to reality. It was from Bev.
Jenna, thank you for being so kind to me earlier. I’m sorry for being such a jerk. This is just really difficult for me. Call me tomorrow? Xoxo Bev
I quickly shot her a text back.
I can only imagine what you’re going through. I’m gonna miss him too. You aren’t alone. Talk to you tomorrow. Xoxo
With that I turned my phone off and turned my attention to Liam. He smiled at me and made me sit up. He sat behind me and pulled me back so that I was laying on top of him. It felt so right. I didn’t think I would feel safe after this morning. I soon drifted off to a peaceful sleep.
