Chapter 4

After Liam kissed me, I took a step backwards and ran into the door. I moved my hand up towards my face and touch my lips and gasped. I looked at Liam, straight in the eyes, and slapped him hard across the cheek. It was Liam. “What did you tell them? Why would you do this?” I started to cry. I slid my back down the door and hit the ground hard. I pulled my knees into my chest and sobbed into my arms. All the sudden I felt a pair of strong arms wrap around me and pull me close. “I had to Jenna. You two were getting too close to quickly. I needed to do something. Something that would get him away for a while and I could step in. I’m sorry. But it needed done.” Liam sighed and stood up quickly. He paced in front of me for a few moments before I wiped my eyes and looked up at him. A few stray tears fell from my eyes as I looked at him. “Well… What did you tell them?” I had to know. It had to be something pretty intense for them to send him away like that. He looked at me, with pain in his eyes. I could tell he was really struggling with something. “Well-erm- that’s not really important. I mean. The important this is that I’m here and he’s not.” He sighed. He looked at me and smiled a weak smile. “Well… I suppose I should let you get ready for the day. Text me when you feel like going out. I promise to take care of you Jenna.” He held out a hand to help me get up. I grabbed his hand and he pulled me up and held me close. He stared deeply into my eyes and kissed my cheek. I tried to move away but he held me close. He moved his lips to my ear and whispered, “Until later… Jenna.” With that he was out the door and I was alone again in my flat. I sighed and walked back to the kitchen. There was my bowl of cereal I had poured right before Liam walked in. Liam. He sure knew how to make a girl fall in love with him. He knew how to kiss too. What am I thinking? I love Michael. I am in a relationship with Michael. I can’t be in love with Liam. My thoughts were interrupted by a frantic pounding at the door. “Coming!” I yelled from the kitchen. I made my way to the living room looked out the peep hole. I quickly locked the dead bold. It was my ex-boyfriend, Shain. This can’t be happening. I could feel the panic building in my chest, and I started to cry. “I have a restraining order, you dirt bag! I’m not afraid to call the cops on you! Get out of here!” I was screaming at the top of my lungs. I reached in my pocket to grab my phone, but it wasn’t there! s**t! I left it up on my bed this morning! I started to panic. “Jenna, baby, can’t we just talk about this? Do you really think some piece of paper is going to keep me away from you?” I could tell he was wearing that cheeky grin he always did when he was lying. “Just open the door so we can talk. You don’t want to piss me off Jenna.” Just then I heard something hitting against the door. “JENNA MARIE. IF YOU DON’T OPEN THIS DOOR RIGHT NOW, I WILL SHOOT MY WAY IN.” OH GOD HE HAD A GUN! I felt my pulse pick up along with my breathing. I quickly scurried across the living room into the kitchen. There was a wall phone there. I wholeheartedly thanked my grandfather for making me put that in. I quickly got up and ran to the phone when I was safely in the kitchen. Just as I picked the phone off the hook, I heard two gun shots. I froze in panic. The door slammed open and that brought me back. I quickly dialed 911 and dropped the phone due to a swift hit to the stomach. --- When I was finally conscious, I opened my eyes. I saw Shain’s back to me. I quickly closed my eyes and pretended to be asleep. I could feel my heart rate picking up. Just then I could hear a car door slam and sirens in the distance. I could feel the Shain get up from the bed and move over to the door. “Shit.” I heard him mumbling something under his breath. Just then I heard footsteps running up the stairs and my bedroom door slam. I jumped and ‘woke up.’ “POLICE! OPEN UP AND NO ONE GETS HURT!” “Jenna! Over here now!” Shain screamed at me. I scrambled over to him and he grabbed me by my waist. His grip was tight, and I could feel something cold being held to my head. Oh gosh. The gun! Just then the door was kicked down, and 4 police men were in my room. The grip around my waist tightened. I could feel my breathing get heavier and my heart rate increasing. “JENNA!” I heard someone screaming my name. The screams were fairly distant. I knew it was someone familiar. I just couldn’t put my finger on it. I squeezed my eyes hut, hoping this was all just a dream. “Let her go, and you won’t get hurt.” I hear one of the officers had said in a firm voice. “You really think it’s going to be that easy? Jenna is MINE.” He said in a deep, harsh tone. I swallowed hard. “You’re Marsh’s girl?” One of the other officers asked in terror. My dad had worked for the police force and had recently moved. He made a point to tell all the officers to keep my dirt bag ex away from me. I put on a nervous smile and nodded a little. Shain’s grip tightened on me and I gasped in pain. I could feel myself bend down towards my lower half. It hurt so bad! Just then I hear a gun shot and Shain’s grip released. I instinctively ran forward towards the officers, just like my dad instructed me to do. Someone pulled me behind two of the other officers. One of them escorted me from the room and down the stairs. I was quickly handed and wrapped in a blanket. I smiled and thanked the officer and made my way over to my porch steps and sat down. “Jenna! Oh, thank god! I hear gun shots and started to panic! What the hell just happened!?” I looked up and was shocked to see Liam. He looked like a nervous wreck. “I—I don’t even know. I just…” He wrapped his arms around me. “Shhhh. It’s alright. You’re safe now. Nothing is ever going to happen to you again.” He pulled my head into his shoulder and rubbed my back. That’s the last thing I remember.
