Chapter 3 The Encounter

1695 Words
I was sat beside the riverbank with my drawing pad in hand. I wouldn’t have said I was an amazing artist, but it was nice and quiet out here. I never got disturbed or even found when I was here. The Alpha didn’t mind us omegas going out as long as we didn’t leave the territory or were late to do chores. I was only ever late once. I had gone for a walk out into the forest when I was 12. I had only recently been aloud out of the pack house gardens as I was getting older. I was asked where I was planning on going as I was still quite young at the time. I told them I would be following the trail in the woods and would stay on the path at all times. While I was walking through the woods I found a little clearing in the eastern section. I thought it would be a great spot to sit and rest. I had dozed off against a large oak tree and by the time I woke up, it was almost dark. I was actually quite scared and ran back towards the house. At that same moment I bumped into what felt like a tree. It wasn’t a tree at all. It was one of the warriors out looking for me. The Luna hadn’t see me at supper and questioned where I was. That’s when the Alpha sent a few warriors out looking. When the worrier took me back I got scolded for not watching the time. The Luna was the one worried mostly but the Alpha took away my outside privileges for a month. I took a look at the watch on my wrist. 12:47. I had at least 3 hours before I had to head back to the pack house. I looked down at my drawing pad. I had started to draw a Lilly flower. It was looking rather nice but it was missing something. I rested my head against the tree I was sat at trying to figure what was missing, however my mind began to wander. “What’s wrong Lauren?” Star questioned. She was always there for me. “Nothing Star. Just thinking about things, that’s all.” “You know I can tell when your lying right.” She said sarcastically, not actually wanting an answer. “I was just wondering what our life would be like if mum and dad were still here, that’s all.” I said to her through our link. I closed my eyes again seeing her in my mind. She looked amazing from what I could see but it wouldn’t be much longer before I could turn. I would be a true werewolf then. We can shift on our 16th birthday. The only problem was omegas don’t actually get to shift and it’s painful the first few times. Omegas don’t normally get to talk to their wolves either but it’s not unheard of for higher stationed omegas to speak to there wolf counterparts. “We are not true omegas though are we?” Star questioned. “We are Alpha by blood and you know it!” She was right after all. Both my parents were of Alpha blood and powerful. Our pack was a relatively new founded pack of only 80 wolves. My mother was originally from a larger pack in Italy. My dad had gone out there with his beta trying to form alliances and found my mum while he was there. There was an alliance formed and my mother came back with my father to take her place as Luna of the blue moon pack. All of a sudden I felt like I was being watched. Star became super alert and came forward to see through my eyes. We both shared my vision and looked around. I stood up slowly to see if I could get a better view. As I stood my pad dropped to the ground, I didn’t care, I had an uneasy feeling in the pit of my stomach. The hairs on the back of my neck, stood up. I lifted my nose in the air and took a deep breath through my nose. I was upwind so any scent would be blown away from me. I took a step to the side not daring to take my gaze from the other side of the river. I heard a branch c***k from in the darkened trees on the other side. I didn’t intend to stick around afterwards. I took a few more steps backwards before I turned and sprinted back towards the path to home. I was not prepared to stick around and see who or what was there. Unknown POV. I was running through the forest at almost full speed. I was racing the boys. It was always too easy though. Arron was always trying too outrun me but he never could keep up. He was going to make the perfect beta but would not be the fastest. Jason was a bit faster than him but he was bound to be really. He was the son of the top worrier. He was much more into physical work than Arron. Arron was really good with tech though. That was his strong point. I slowed down for them to catch up. They caught up after a few moments. “You really need to work on your stamina, Arron!” I said jokingly. He hated if I teased him about anything. “Oh shut up, not everyone can be the almighty can they?” He replied pushing me to the side, well trying to. “You know if you laid off a few of the muffins, in a morning it would help.” I sarcastically replied, winking in Jason’s direction. He couldn’t help but snigger at this remark. “look, they are too nice not to eat. I swear they were never that nice before we left for camp.” He said. Not catching on that I was hiding a laugh. When he turned to look at me and Jason he went red. “You know you’re a t**t! Don’t you?” He said finally catching on to my joke. We all laughed as we walked back through the woods. Just then I got a scent waft past me, that stopped me in my tracks. It was the same scent from the house. “Yo, are you ok man. You went all wild mode then.” Arron asked me. “What. Oh yeah, sorry. Lynx wants to stretch his legs now. I am gona let him out for a bit. He’s been cooped up since camp, and you know what these wolves are like. Meet back at the rec room later? Ok” I said. I never even waited for their response. I turned down a small trail that turned to the left. Once I was out of sight of the boys I started to strip. I didn’t fancy shredding my clothes. I stashed them behind a bush and made a mental note as to where they were. I started my shift. It took less than 5 seconds to go from man to wolf. Lynx was my wolf. He was taller than you’re average werewolf too. We took off down the trail following the scent. I had smelled it a few times now, around the house but why out here. “I need to find out who owns this delicious smell.” Lynx said. “Well slow it down then Lynx, let’s be sneaky. We don’t want to be barging our way around do we?” I asked him. He slowed to a walk, the scent was getting closer and stronger and we were almost at the river. Lynx tested the air and found the way in which the breeze was flowing. We decided to go over the river and up the other side, remaining in the shadows. I wanted to see who was the owner of the scent before we broke cover. Lynx walked cautiously and finished up almost crawling to get a clear view. As we neared the edge of the bank behind a blackberry bush we could just make out the beautiful sight before us. There sat on the opposite bank was the most innocent looking young woman I had ever seen. She was lent back against a broad oak tree. She looked to be 15 or 16 years old. She had long silver blond hair that must have gone all the way down her back if it wasn’t tied back. It had some small waves in it that shaped her face perfectly. She was holding onto a note pad of some kind. Me and Lynx wanted to get closer, to get a better view. We edged a little bit more, all of a sudden the girl shot open her eyes. She was looking directly at us. We shrunk down as much as a large wolf could, trying to hide in the shadows. She had started to look around, that’s when I saw her eyes properly. They were mesmerising. They were almost silver, she stood up dropping her pad onto the ground beside her. She was still scanning the area it looked. Me and lynx started to try and pull back. The last thing we wanted was to spook her. At that same moment a twig snapped underneath me. She stepped sideways and backwards. She took 5 or 6 steps before turning and bolting down towards the track I had come up. I looked at the space she occupied, noticing the pad she had dropped. I look back to the direction she ran, once I was sure she wasn’t coming back I jumped over the river, and landed near the area she was sat. I took a deep sniff of the pad she dropped, taking in all the scent that would now drive me crazy. “We need to know who she is is!” Lynx said with determination to every word. He picked the pad up in his jaws, being carful not to ruin it, and we headed back to our clothes stash.
