“Why did you run, Lauren?” Star said to me. She sounded angry and was pacing in my head. “We could have took on anything out there.” She added in.
“Star, I am not about to risk being found out now. Remember what happened to Jake?” I asked her, tears starting to form in my eyes. “It’s because of me he’s dead.” I added back with a little hatred for myself. I wish I could be stronger but being hidden all this time ment that I didn’t get to do any combat training. I couldn’t defend myself.
I remembered the day Jake was killed. Me and Jake could mind link each other unlike anyone else in this pack. I am not actually part of this pack so cannot be mind linked. Jake was the same but they let him join the warriors . It was his way of protecting me still.
“LAUREN! Stay with this pack. Don’t ever reveal who you really are! Stay safe. Stay hidden.” It came through my mind link during our evening dinner service. I screamed and broke down in the middle of the kitchen but it went unnoticed mostly, as there was an alarm though the packs link of rouge attack. We were all ushered to go to the bunker. I had to be carried by one of the omegas. I was only 10. Jake was the last of the family I had.
After the attack the Alpha and Luna came to find me. They sat me down and told me that they had found Jake’s body near the border. They thought he was my father and for the past 4 years he had been. He had taken care of me and protected me. He saved me. The Alpha and Luna allowed me to stay with them and said I was part of their pack now. They were my family. I was ready to give up but that night Star came to me.
“Hello little one.”
I bolted up in my bed. My eyes were swollen and puffy from crying.
“Hello. Who’s there?” I was terrified to say the least.
I was shaking from fear and tried to hide In the darkest corner of my room.
“There is no need, to be afraid little one.” The voice said. I slammed my eyes shut and hugged my knees tightly. The shaking became worse.
“Look in your mind, little one. I will not harm you. I am here to help you.” The voice said. The voice was calm and sounded sincere. I tried to block it out and imagine anything else but being in this place. As I was trying to picture anything I saw movement in my head. It was the strangest feeling. I opened my eyes and looked around the room. Nothing.
“You saw me dear.” The voice said.
“Who are you.” I asked out loud.
“I am Star. I am your wolf.”
“But I won’t get my wolf until I am 16.” I replied cockily.
“Well your special Lauren. The moon goddess has allowed me to come to you now. She said you deserve not to be alone.” The voice said. “Now close your eyes and try to look Inside your mind. I am here. I am waiting to meet you.” It continued.
I really didn’t know why but I felt safe. I felt as if I could trust this Star voice. I mean if the moon goddess said I could have my wolf, It had to be true right? I closed my eyes again and focused really really hard. It was really hard to start with but after a few moments of trying I saw a blurry image moving inside my head. I only saw it as it was something really light coloured. Almost white I thought. I couldn’t see Star clearly for a while but every night I practiced and eventually the image became clear.
Star helped me learn and I was never alone again.
“Star, I am sorry. I don’t feel powerful, and I know you would help but I do not want to end up like Jake.” I told her. She hung her head in defeat. She knew I was right.
“Ok Lauren. I know but I want for us to be able to take care of ourselves. We need to learn to fight.” Star replied. “Do you think the Alpha would let us train?” She added. Lifting her head with a questionable look in her eyes.
“I don’t know Star. We would probably be laughed at.” I replied.
“Well how about using the gym?” We could get stronger there first.
I thought about what she asked me. It wasn’t a bad idea actually and although strange of an Omega, I don’t think the Alpha would reject my request. I could go really early before everyone else or even late in the evenings. I would stay hidden then. No one could see me.
“I will ask the Alpha after dinner, ok?” I told her. She began bouncing round my head like a puppy. She was definitely happy now. Finally.
I had just got back to the pack house and walked through the large garden. I was just about to walk through the kitchen door when I got the feeling of being watched again. I had my left hand on the door handle, ready to enter and turned back to look In the direction I had just come. I swear I saw a shadow in the bush’s but not a human shadow.
“Your right Star. We need to get stronger. We need to be able to protect ourselves.” Star nodded her head in approval as we walked through the door into the kitchen.
Lunchtime service was in full swing now. I dipped and ducked through the kitchen not getting in the way of anyone and headed up to my room. My shift didn’t start for another few hours. I would stay in my room and continue to draw. That’s when I realised I had dropped my drawing pad.
I was heartbroken but there was nothing I could do. I would have to wait until I get paid and get new stuff. I was not about to go back out there and try to find it. The only problem was some of my drawings were signed by self. My first one was signed in my original name too.
Hopefully who ever was watching me didn’t find it and the elements would destroy it. A sad way to think but the best option I think. I decided I would speak to the Alpha about using the gym after dinner. He was always in a good mood after dinner, plus If I made some extra treats they would help bargain.
I walked through the corridor leading to the stairs without watching where I was going. All of a sudden I crashed into something hard, like a tree but with a little cushioning. I almost fell backwards onto my arse and I am sure I would have if it wasn’t for something grabbing my arm, preventing me from actually hitting the ground.
I looked up just as he caught me to see the most mesmerising grey eyes looking back at me. I couldn’t believe what I was looking at. I came to realise soon after that it was the young Alpha I was gawking at. With this realisation I dropped my gaze rapidly and steadied myself, pulling my arm away at the same time. I bowed my head out of respect.
Unlike a true omega I was not compelled to do so as I was a higher rank but to remain hidden I had become used to doing this action. I wanted to remain hidden so I did what an omega should do. Star how ever stood up and held her head high. Luckily only I could see her, so I didn’t worry too much.
“I am sorry Alpha. I was not paying attention to my surroundings. I will be more careful in the future. Please forgive me.” I said it my quite voice. I did actually mean it. I was not one for causing problems and definitely didn’t like to attract attention.
“Don’t worry about. Are you ok….” he said in return trailing off with the last words. I realised he didn’t know my name. That’s not too uncommon, I mean he has been away for 3 years almost.
“My name is Lauren Alpha.” I told him. I had a strange feeling going off. And star was no longer on alert. She was curious for some reason.
“Well in that case, are you ok Lauren?” He asked.
“Yes sir. I am fine. I am really sorry, and it won’t happen again.” I said back. Hoping to be able to excuse myself and hide.
“Ok then. Nice talking to you Lauren. Be careful in future!” He said as he side stepped around me and walked down the corridor towards the dining room. I don’t know what came over me all of a sudden but I turned to watch him walk away. As he rounded the corner he glanced my way again. I quickly turned away and began to walk briskly to the stairs and out of sight.
“Oh my god! Did you see them eyes Lauren?” Star exclaimed as she flopped down dreamily in my head. “They were so mesmerising and handsome.”
“Star! You can’t say things like that about him. He is the next Alpha in line.” I quickly reminded her. Although I could find myself lost in those eyes any day of the week.
“So you found them as dreamy as me then did you?” Star stated matter of factly. “They were so hypnotic. His voice was so calming and warm. Can we go gawk a bit more?” She asked still flopped out in my mind. I shook my head at the sight of her and continued up the stairs to the 2nd floor. This was the floor for all Omegas and other workers. The 3rd floor was for unmated warriors and high ranking visitors. The 4th floor was for the Beta and Gamma and their family’s. The 5th floor was the Alpha floor. The current Alpha and Luna were up there but they were on one side and the other side was for their son, the young Alpha. He would take the title at the next full blue moon. 3 weeks away.
I walked down the corridor to my bedroom door and turned the handle. That’s when it hit me. The scent was here again. I looked around but I couldn’t see anyone or anything. I opened my room door and stepped cautiously in, closing the door and turning the lock. I had become rather uneasy and even though I felt safe it was not a feeling I was used to having.
I decided I would do my washing this evening when I looked down and saw my washing bag at the side of the door. I laid on my bed thinking about the events that happened today and still smelling the delicious scent and must have dozed off.
