Diana’s POV “I know you’ve been avoiding me for a while now,” I turned towards my mother, unsure of what she wanted me to say. The truth was that I didn’t have it in me to tell her what happened between myself and Jack because I knew she didn’t want me to take a mate here in this pack but I suspected that she already had an idea. “I just don’t have the words to say, mum,” I answered. “I know what’s going on and I wanted to tell you that I’ve found someone for you and we’re leaving here immediately.” I stared at her like she had grown a second head. “Are you being serious?” “We’re leaving, Diana,” Maria said. “Grab your bags, there’s nothing here for us anymore.” “You finally did it. We’re finally leaving here for good.” I cried out of excitement. “It took you long enough to finally realize what’s best for us. Believe me when I say you won’t ever regret doing this and you owe me an apology as well. “Diana, I do not need you to gloat right now. We need to leave this place before the Alpha wakes up and orders a search for both our heads. I need you to be at your best because I need all the strength I can get right now. It’s going to be a difficult journey and I can’t do it if I feel halfway dead already.” “I can try but I won’t be able to properly heal to full strength but I can close the wounds for now. It should be sufficient enough to put considerable distance between us and this hell house.” I answered. I could manage with that, there was no other option. I couldn’t stay here and be killed when Jack comes back for me. I hurriedly packed our things and put on a simple dress with a split in the middle to help me run better before grabbing my mother’s and fleeing the room. “Where are we going, mother? Are you certain that they’re not going to come after us?” I asked as we sneaked out of the pack house as silently as we could using the least guarded exit. I’ve known about it for years but I never mustered the courage to leave this hellish place until now. We successfully left the house without any interference, much to my surprise, and we walked quickly through the thick forest, boosted by fear of the unknown and of being caught. We were still in the pack territory, anything could happen out here. We could get caught by the patrol pack if we weren’t cautious of our surroundings. It was dark and I wasn’t properly familiar with our surroundings. I was heading with the map I had in my head, hoping I was moving on the right path. We continued to walk for minutes, hiding as fast as we could at the slightest sound before we continued on our way. We moved closer and closer till we eventually got to the border, successfully managing to evade the patrol pack. When we got extremely close to the border, I could feel my mother getting weak, so I dropped the bag I crossed on my back. I crouched down to look her straight in the eyes, I could see the tears threatening to cascade down her face. I clutched her hands in mine. “Why did we stop? Have we gotten to our new home already?” “No, not yet but I’m going to take you there, I promise. But first, I need you to do something for me.” My mother began caressing my hair. “I want you to let your wolf take over, I need your wolf right now. She’ll help you better.” “Are we leaving here for good?” “Yes. We’re done being trampled upon because of what we are.” I wasn’t fully satisfied with her answer but I stayed silent as I let out a sigh, not wanting to dull her spirits. Her enthusiasm was one of the things I drew inspiration from. I didn’t know where we were headed or if we would ever find comfort, I was taking a leap of faith with a blindfold on my eyes. I didn’t know what the world had in store for me but I knew one thing was certain, I was never going to have it as bad as I did there. Never again. But before that, there was something I had to do first. Feeling invigorated, I pushed myself off the floor and stood on my feet. There was no time to waste, we needed to get this over and done with. I removed my blood necklace from the backpack and clutched it tightly in my left hand. “I, Diana Quicksilver, an Omega of the Crimson pack, willingly choose to be a lone wolf from now henceforth. Every tie or bond between us would be severed till the end of time, so be it.” I tossed the necklace to the ground and stomped on it and immediately, I felt every connection and tie with the pack cut off instantly. “Remember how you did it the other time. You just have to be focused and call on her, she knows what to do next but you need to make it work.” My mother said, gently easing her into position. I nodded and squeezed my eyes tightly. Soon enough, I experienced the transformation. I began to shift, my claws claws coming onto the surface covered with silver fur and canines. I wasn’t screaming like I had been the first time I shifted, I was learning to welcome the pain like a true wolf. A few moments later, a beautiful wolf covered with shiny silver fur was standing on all fours next to me. “Diana.” My mother smiled proudly at me before she shifted into her wolf immediately and we both allowed our wolves to take control for the next stage of our journey. We agreed to do this together if we were going to make it out of this unscathed. She grabbed the backpack with her mouth and nudged her mother on. “Are we leaving this place? It still feels so surreal that I can’t believe we made it happen.” I gushed. “It’s real and it’s about time I stood up for you and myself. I’m so proud of you and I can’t wait to see what the future holds for us all.” And with that, we moved across the borders and stepped into the forest taking off at full speed. We were lone wolves and for the first time in forever, we were free.
