Love Cameron:
"You were supposed to be my friend," I said, tears welling up in my eyes as I watched her lean against the door frame, a triumphant smirk on her lips. She appeared incredibly pleased with herself, especially since my fated mate had just rejected me right in front of her.
"It's not my fault that you couldn't win your mate's heart. By the way, who badmouths their stepfamily this much? Do you think you're a good person? News flash: you're a horrible person. The day I started listening to you badmouthing and complaining about them was the same day I realized you'd do the same about me. You're no one's friend, family, or mate," she muttered under her breath, appearing convinced by her observation, though it couldn't be further from the truth.
It was incredibly unfair that she was using all these things against me just to make me look bad, knowing full well why I confided in her in the first place. I was lonely and enduring abuse, so she had convinced me that she would be my confidante. I guess today I learned another painful lesson.
"I'm surprised by your newfound self-confidence today," I remarked, nodding my head and letting out a small laugh amidst this chaotic situation.
"The fact that you had to sleep with my mate to find confidence and authenticity in yourself is rather pitiable," I muttered, trying to hold back tears because they seemed to amuse her.
"You should save your pity for yourself because I'm not the one who's pregnant without a mate, and, oh, marked. What are you going to tell the pack's elders now?" she pouted, attempting to appear concerned while simultaneously mocking me. She was right.
I was undoubtedly in a difficult situation.
"I don't need to answer to anyone. I will terminate this pregnancy," I declared, anger burning in my eyes. If the child's father doesn't want them, why should I bring a child into the world to suffer?
"That's a great idea because I don't want my future alpha king mate to have a child with someone like you," she continued to shock me with her harsh comments.
Had she always harbored this much hatred for me?
Regardless, she had proven one thing today: we can't trust anyone anymore.
"Now leave, because my beloved alpha king is waiting for me in bed," she snickered, turning around and slamming the door in my face. I just stood there with teary eyelashes and a heart heavy with sorrow.
He didn't appear the least bit fazed by my arrival. It wasn't that he didn't recognize me; he simply looked malevolent while touching her and trying to gauge my reaction, as if my misery brought him pleasure.
I turned around and left the building with a heart shattered. As soon as I stepped onto the road, a cab pulled up in front of me, and my stepmother emerged with my father.
"You really thought you could run away?" my dad hissed, seizing my arm and pushing me into the cab. I was so traumatized and upset that I couldn't even protest.
"And go where? It's not as if she can survive as a rogue or go stay in another pack without the alpha king's permission. The new alpha king has implemented a new rule: anyone who wishes to leave the pack must first meet with them and request permission," Alice muttered, getting into the car while my father gave directions to the driver.
It came as no surprise that Kage was showing his power and making everyone dependent on him. It was indeed peculiar that I had gone from chasing the enigmatic Alpha King to carrying his child, only to be rejected.
"We need to deal with this pregnancy before he discovers it. Kage is imposing stringent rules about mate loyalty and not conceiving with anyone else. The male wolves will face severe punishment if they impregnate someone else as well," my father sighed, clearly unhappy about the male wolves having to shoulder any responsibility.
Huh! Kage wanted mates to be loyal? What an irony.
I sat between them, not uttering a single word. They hadn't brought Livia with them; she probably stayed behind to sleep with my ex.
I sighed as I gazed out of the window, my eyes brimming with tears. Even if I were allowed to stay here after the abortion, it would be incredibly difficult for me to witness my ex-fated mate with my former best friend.
Now, thinking without any illusions of friendship and trust in others, I realized that it was likely Mindy who had informed the bar's owner that I had slept with a customer. She wanted me gone, ensuring she'd never have to face me again.
My so-called parents took me to a remote area where a nurse was helping she-wolves terminate their pregnancies without attracting the council's attention.
I gently ran my hand over my belly and let out a sigh. The car stopped and Alice held my arm, dragging me out to make sure I don’t try to run away again.
I had dried tears on my cheeks, but I didn't protest in the slightest. It was as if time had frozen for me, and I was still standing outside my friend's apartment, watching my mate reject me and then go inside with my friend.
As I almost tripped on the steps, I shook myself awake from the daze and looked around. A woman in her late forties opened the door, giving me a warm smile before it faded.
"Come inside," she told my parents, and we entered the small house that carried the scent of medicine. My heart began to pound louder, and my hands grew sweaty. I was getting cold feet now.
"This is the girl we mentioned," Alice took over, while my father sat in the living room. Judging by the condition of the house, it didn't appear that the lady lived here; it seemed like she was using this house solely for this purpose.
She had even covered her mouth with a surgical mask to hide her identity. The lady nodded and then gestured at me to step into the room where a bed was placed.
I followed her with shivering feet and only once she closed the door that I made up my mind that I don’t want to abort this baby.
"Please, don't kill my baby," I implored as I clasped my hands together. She frowned and turned to face me.
"I had a feeling something was amiss. You don't want to go through with the abortion?" she inquired, and I nodded resolutely.
"Who is the father?" she asked, and I lowered my head in sorrow.
"My mate," I whispered under my breath.
"Did he reject you and refuse to take responsibility for the child?" she asked as she approached me and gently rubbed my elbow to comfort me. I only nodded in response.
"These scoundrels!" she grumbled in anger, "I won't press for an abortion, but do you realize how difficult it will be for you to bring your mate before the council and make him acknowledge your bond?" she inquired, although she was unaware of my lack of a wolf. But it did make me wonder if the new rules will get me in trouble for not having an active wolf.
I raised my head and gazed into her brown eyes, noticing a rare blue spot in one of them.
"I just want to get away from here. There's nothing left for me here," I whimpered, wiping my cheeks with the back of my hands.
"Have you considered leaving the werewolf territory? You can't even live in another pack, so maybe you can try your luck in the human world," her question made me tilt my head and take a deep breath. "Only a few she-wolves who didn't want to undergo abortions have escaped. But I can assist you in getting out of here safely," she said.
"I would appreciate that. I just want to protect my baby," it felt as if a new glimmer of hope had emerged within me. I liked the idea.
"Alright! There's a back door you can use to leave. I'll give you directions. Now is your only opportunity because that new alpha King is about to tighten restrictions on crossing realms very soon. Get away from here before this world descends into chaos," her words made me wonder if Kage's arrival was akin to a doomsday.
But I didn't need to worry; I was leaving for good.
"Thank you. I'll find a way to repay you one day," I said as I took the paper on which she had written the proper instructions and directions.
"I'll inform your parents that you're resting, and later, I can claim you ran away after the abortion," she added. For a moment, I wanted to ask her why she was helping me so much, but I didn't have the time.
I just wanted to leave. I grabbed the bag she had given me and made my way toward the back door.
"Goodbye, werewolves. You'll never see me or my baby again," I muttered, my words directed at the mate who had turned out to be a heartless person.
