Sky woke up slowly. She snuggled into the warmth that seemed to surround her wanting more of it. It felt like she was wrapped in a large blanket. She moaned feeling secure. She froze when there was suddenly movement behind her. Her eyes flew open when she realised where she was. She was sleeping next to the crazy alpha on the mattress he offered her last night. She didn’t remember how she got there.
Sky shot to her feet and moved away from the mattress. She searched in the dark for the steps. She panicked as she heard the chains rattle all around her. They sounded so loud as if he was coming after her. He sighed loudly as if he disapproved of her.
Sky stopped and turned towards the sound. She wished the light was on so that she could see him. But as it was darkness surrounded them. She didn’t even know which direction she had to move to in order to get away from him.
“If I wanted to do something to you I would have done it the minute you slept next to me,” he said and the then air shifter around her. She felt him so close behind her. A strong arm came around her and he pulled her back into his hard chest. His warmth seeped into her skin. And she felt the urge to lean into him. Sky shook her head, because she didn’t understand why she would feel like that about someone like him. His breath hit the back of her neck. She shivered a little. His voice rumbled in her chest as he spoke. “I am not a monster. No matter how much I might look like one. I won’t do anything to you. I promise,” he said and then stepped back from her.
Sky stood there frozen. She heard him moved around. There was a sound of a door opening. She didn’t realise there was a door somewhere in the room. She wondered what he was doing. There was the sound of water running a few paces away. Sky shifted from one foot to the other as the need to pee suddenly gripped her.
“If you want to use the bathroom let me know,” he said. Sky hated the fact that she needed his help. But she couldn’t stand there and pee on herself.
“Where is it?” she asked, looking around in the dark. She could barely see anything. How was he able to see? How long was he down there to be able to see like that? she asked herself.
He came close to her. “I am going to take your hand now. Is that alright?” he asked.
“Yes,” Sky said. His fingers wrapped around her. His hand was warm, and it fit hers so perfectly. Confusing feelings filled her. Electricity climbed up and down her arm. Her breath caught in her throat. She wanted to snatch her hand away from his, but she really needed the bathroom.
She let him walk her a few feet, and then she heard a door being pushed open. He walked her inside and placed her hand along the walk. “It’s right ahead of you. Call me when you are done,” he said and then let go of her. A few minutes went by and she heard the door being pulled close. She panicked a little as he left her alone. The room suddenly felt scary without him there. But she still didn’t want him there either. Sky shook her head at her confusing feelings. Her bladder screamed as she continued to stand there. She felt for the wall as she walked straight. She stopped when she felt cold porcelain. She felt around until she found the seat. She pulled her dress up, and pushed her panties down. She cringed, hoping it wasn’t dirty as she sat down and did her business.
The light suddenly went on. Sky closed her eyes as the light hurt her eyes. She blinked and looked around the tiny bathroom. She spotted a roll of toilet paper in a dispenser on the wall. She quickly finished in the bathroom and rushed out. She came to a stop when the witch turned to her. He stood at the top step, the door was slightly open behind him. Sky stared at the promise of freedom behind him, and then shifted her eyes to him. His eyes still held that leering light in them. He smiled at her.
“Your brother told me to take good care of you,” he said as he moved to the next step. From the corner of her eyes Sky saw the alpha move towards her, but he somehow stopped himself just as the witch turned to look at him. “She’s beautiful, isn’t she William? I wondered how you will manage last night with something so beautiful in front of you, and then I remembered that I switched off the light, chances were you couldn’t see her. Such a missed opportunity,” he said licking his lips. Sky stared at him and then at the alpha a little confused by what he was talking about. It was clear that he was taunting him. But William showed no sign that he cared about what he was saying. He stared at the witch with a passive look on his face. They stared at each for a few creepy minutes. Something was going on between the two.
It was weird. The hairs on the back of her neck stood. And she could feel her wolf stirring within her.
“Be careful if this one,” Fay warned her. Sky took a slight step towards William. He had proven that he wouldn’t do anything to her.
The witch’s eyes widened slightly as he caught her moved. He stared at her and then at William. A tense moment past between them.
“When is my brother coming for me?” Sky asked breaking the silence. The witch took a moment before he turned to her. He looked a little distracted. It was like he couldn’t drag his eyes from the alpha. They have such a strange relationship, Sky thought.
“He didn’t say,” he said finally answering her. “He said to take care of you and he will be back soon. I am guessing he will come back for you in a few days. But there is no rush. You are welcome here. Right, William?”
William didn’t answer. He walked to the far corner and sat down. The chains filled the silence until he settled down.
“Right,” he answered himself. He walked up the steps and came to a stop at the door. “I’ll leave the light on this time. I have a feeling you might want to get to know each other. Breakfast will be served in a few minutes,” he said and then shut the door. A few minutes past, and the light remained on.
Sky turned to him. He was staring at her. Sky felt uncomfortable under his stare. She walked to the steps and sat down.
“Don’t ever do that again. You will give him the wrong idea. You asked me to stay away from you, remember? Please do the same,” Sky knew what he was talking about. She had moved towards him, when the witch walked down the steps as if he will protect her from the him.
It irritated her that he was throwing the words she flung at him last night back at her.
“What? Are you saying you wouldn’t protect me from the witch?” she asked with a mock laugh.
“Yes. You are none of my business,” he said simply. He folded his arms over his chest and stared at her.
“But I thought I am your mate,” she said smugly. “You called me your mate as soon as that door was closed.”
A few minutes ticked by with him just staring at her. “Do you feel like you are my mate?” he asked her suddenly.
Sky stared at him. The memory of her fingers tingling from him simply taking her hand filled her mind, causing her whole body to vibrate.
Fay, she called her wolf’s name as her hand went to her heart. All those confusing feeling rose again, and she felt like there was a shift within her. Before her wolf could answer her he spoke.
“Then you are not my mate,” his voice went low. “Like he said. I haven’t seen a woman as beautiful as you. I must have been dreaming. Now, that I can see you. I feel nothing. My wolf lies quiet within me. He doesn’t acknowledge you as his mate.”
Sky listened to his every word. His words somehow sliced through her. Unexpected pain shot through her. Why was she feeling like this?
“It’s because he’s our mate,” Fay declared. Sky jolted to her feet.
No. Why didn’t I feel it? Why didn’t you tell me? she said to her wolf.
“Because you denied what you felt the moment you saw him. And I will shield you from anything. I will always protect you, even from our mate,” she said. Sky knew her wolf would do anything for her. She ran for hours, almost hurting herself so that they could get away from Jeremiah and his stupid plans for her.
Sky stared at the alpha. His eyes were still on her as if he was waiting for her next move.
Did he just reject her?
