Damon’s POV
Her wolf is named Kill? Who the hell names someone KILL!? No wonder she’s ruthless and the best at killing... her wolf’s name is Kill, for f**k sake. K-I-L-L!
Reyn’s eyes change color, meaning she gives control to her wolf. Her eyes are red... as in the color of the blood kinda red.
Oh, for f***s sake.
Get a grip on yourself, Damon. You’re an Alpha. These things don’t scare you.
‘Tsk. You sound like a f*****g baby who just saw a ghost. Want me to call for your mama?’ Xander laughs in my head.
‘Shut up, you stupid wolf! I know you aren’t that cool with this either,’ I answer and clear my throat before talking to Kill.
“What do you want to talk about?”
“Patience, first I need to block Reyn,” she replies.
I look at her, confused and a little suspicious. What does she want to talk about without Reyn knowing?
“Stop acting like that,” Kill growls at me.
“Acting how? I don’t understand what you mean,” I reply, feeling more confused than ever before.
“Acting as you care,” she growls at me, clearly irritated by my answer.
“I do care. What Reyn has been through it’s-.”
“Exactly! She’s been through enough and doesn’t need more pain. We can read minds, so don’t act like you didn’t say having a rogue as a mate is a disgrace. Stay away from her.”
‘You did this! This is your fault!’ Xander growls at me.
“You two are mates?” dad asks.
I ignore Xander and dad, too absorbed by what Kill told me. Because I can understand that Reyn doesn’t want me, but her wolf should. My wolf at least does.
“You don’t want your mate?” I ask, dumbfounded and, honestly, hurt by her statement.
“I want my mate, but she doesn’t, and what she says goes. She’s been through enough and doesn’t need to be hurt even more, let alone by her mate. What she needs is revenge, and I will give it to her even if it means not being with my mate,” Kill answers and, for the first time, sounds vulnerable.
I can see that she’s hurt for not being able to be with her mate, but she loves Reyn more, meaning that she is willing to give up on me to make her human happy. I admire that. Wolfs aren’t that strong to stand up to their mate and ignore the mate bound for their human souls.
“I made a terrible mistake speaking to Reyn like that, I admit. But I do want you as my mate, and I’ll win over Reyn. I’ll have her heart,” I say with determination in my voice.
“You can’t have her heart. She doesn’t have one anymore. The only emotions she has are pain and anger” Kill says sadly.
“I will change that.”
“You can try, but you’ll fail, and if you dare hurt her, I’ll rip you apart. There’s a reason my name is Kill, and believe me, you don’t want to see it” she growls and gives the control back to Reyn, but not before making sure I get a taste of understanding why Jax and Jason are so damn scared of her.
I look at the scene in front of me. Jax’s being r***d, screaming, and begging Reyn to stop and kill him already. But Reyn shows no remorse regarding what she’s doing. She’s enjoying his screams, and I don’t blame her after I found out what he has done. I would’ve enjoyed it too.
‘But mate is seeing other males n***d. I don’t like that!’ my wolf growls at me.
‘Me neither, but she needs this. She needs revenge so she can start a new life with no regret and no remorse.'
After hearing about what happened to her, I immediately regretted my words. What I said to her, that I didn’t want her, judging her for being a rogue, not knowing that she’s one because her pack is dead, well, I feel horrible. And the fact that she reads minds, she heard me thinking those things, God, I’m such an i***t.
‘Glad we can both agree on that,’ Xander snorts.
‘Shut up, mutt! But I still don’t understand how my parents know her.’
‘Really, stupid?’
‘Do you know something I don’t? Care to share?’
‘Pack slaughtered, dead parents, has a sister, your parents know and care about her, your father tried to kill Jax after he heard what he has done to her family like it was his own. Really doesn’t ring a bell?’
Then it hits me. Reyn was a part of the Howlers pack, and she’s the daughter of my father’s best friend. An alpha female, which explains the power. She’s been through enough, and instead of trying to help her, and give her comfort, I almost rejected her.
‘Stupid human,’ Xander growls again.
‘Shut the f**k up!’ I roar back, starting to get tired of his condescending words.
I block him and turn my attention back to Reyn. It has been three hours, and it seems that she’s had enough of the t*****e and is ready to kill Jax. Or at least, that’s what I thought...
“All right, boys, that’s enough... you two right there... don't move. The rest of you form a line." Reyn commands them
They do as they're told, and I can see a white mist forming around Reyn's hands.
'What is she doing?' Xander asks
'I don't know...'
“You! What have you done to us?” one of the rogues asks.
“I remember everything. How-?” another continues.
“How did you make us follow your orders!?” a third asks.
A minute ago they were like some lifeless marionettes... it seems Reyn gave them back their control.
Reyn doesn't answer, she just gives them a schilling smile, and the mist forms again. They quickly went from scared and angry to terrified and in pain.
"What are you doing to them?"
"I'm reviving their worst nightmares." she answers so nonchalantly... like she doesn't care... like she's amused by all this.
The rogues fall to their knees, holding their heads. Blood starts streaming down, from their eyes and ears. A few minutes later, they stop screaming and look up, the lifeless state returning
"You get out of this territory. You will go find a remote place where no one could see you, and when you're there, you'll cut off your eyelids, and my spell will wear off."
They get up and leave in synch... just like puppets.
"Why... why cut off their eyelids?" I'm asking her this, but I'm not sure I want to hear the answer...
"This way, they will dye in three days. Three days filled with pain and hopelessness."
She looks at them leaving... she smiles while she explains making my blood run cold... she looks like a psychopath...
She suddenly turns to me, eyes red, the smile never flattering.
"A sexy psychopath I hope."
I forgot she can read minds...
After the rogues are out of sight, my father approaches Reyn.
“You had your revenge. Let me be the one to kill this bastard!” he growls, ready to take Jax down.
“No. This was Ava’s revenge. Now it’s time for mine,” she replies making me wonder what she's talking about. I thought this was her revenge... but if it was Ava's... then what's hers?
She goes to Jax's side and heals him. He looks at her confused, as we all do.
“Why... why did you heal me?” he stammers.
“It wouldn’t be fun or satisfying if you wouldn’t even have the strength to scream,” even her voice tone sounds deadly
I’m curious about what she’s about to do next. But I can't help but wonder how is she able to heal Jax...
One more power I’ve never heard of, and I again find it in her.
‘Our mate is powerful,’ Xander ponders.
‘You bet she is.’
After healing Jax, she orders the remaining rogues to hold him down. I see her make a silver blade appear in her hand, and she starts to play with it on Jax’s body. As if his body is a canvas, the knife is a paintbrush, and she's using his blood as paint.
His screams are deafening. Silver is known to be the perfect weapon against a werewolf. It burns our skin and gives us incredible pain. It also blocks our ability to heal. It’s torture... a fatal object to us.
‘Wait a minute. Reyn said that was her sister’s revenge, and she’s done to him what Jax has done to Ava. If this is her revenge, doesn't that mean...' Xander whines
‘That bastard tortured our mate with silver!’
After that, all I could see was red. My head gets filled with all the ways I could kill him. Xander is fighting me too. He wants to take control and rip Jax apart. And as much as I’d like that too, I can’t do it. It takes me all the strength I have to push Xander back and remain in control.
‘What the hell are you doing, stupid human!? Let me rip him to pieces!’ he growls at me.
‘I want that too, but this is Reyn’s revenge, not ours.'
After I say that, he begins to calm down.
I don’t know for how long I’ve been fighting with my wolf, but the next thing I know, Jax is full of cuts, and Reyn seems already bored with chopping his skin.
There’s literally no place on Jax’s body that doesn’t have cuts. I see her doing the thing she did with the rogues, but before she gets to kill him, I stop her.
“What the hell do you want now?” she snaps at me.
‘Mate is upset with us. It’s all your fault!’ Xander whines and growls at me.
“Don’t kill him yet. You had your revenge; now let us,” I reply.
“Why?” she asks and looks at me suspiciously.
“Well, he hurt my mate, and Xander wants a turn with him as well.”
“Xander?” she asks me, confused.
“Xander is my wolf. Plus, I’m sure my father would love to make him pay for taking part in the attack. “
My father just growls in response, and I watch Reyn think about it. After a while, she agrees.
"Fine, but you can't kill him. He will die the same way the others did."
"And it will be my pleasure to be the one that gets to cut his eyelids off," my father says
“Take him to the dungeons,” I order my beta.
After that, Reyn is about to leave, but thankfully, my father stops her and convinces her to stay a little more.
When we enter the house, my mother comes up and tells us dinner was ready. We've been out for so long that I didn't even realize it was dawn already.
We take a sit at the table and start eating, an awkward silence lingering around.
Not that I'm surprised... it’s the first dinner without the pack members, we have the famous assassin 'Kill' at our dinner table, which actually turned out to be the long-lost daughter of my father's best friend... oh and, let's not forget, the mate I waited five years for which I almost rejected.
What a night...
I don't even know how mom got the wolves living in the packhouse out for the night. I didn’t even see them leave.
The silence doesn't last long... not with my mother here.
“So, what have you done in these past years, Ry?”
Seriously mom? Out of all the questions you could’ve asked, you chose this one...
“I’m an assassin, Nora. My days consist of training, hunting, and killing,” she replies
And there goes the statement of the obvious.
“Oh, I’m sorry darling, that...” she begins, and I beg her through the mind-link to stop talking “...that was inappropriate. Well then, where do you live?”
“The woods are my home now.”
I snap my head so fast towards her that I’m actually surprised I don’t break my neck. Reyn is living in the woods? Doesn’t she realize how dangerous that is? Where does she sleep? What about a bathroom? Where does she go when it’s raining or snowing? What about the food?
“What do you mean, the woods? Don’t you have a home?” I ask her, perplexed, but quickly realize how stupid I was.
I can clearly feel her anger, and I pity the fork in her hand that now looks like a ball of metal.
‘Wrong question, i***t,’ my wolf snorts.
‘Thanks for stating the obvious, Xander.’
