Chapter Twenty-One

Jacob’s P.O.V I awoke to the gentle warmth of the sun’s rays streaming through the window. It appears we slept all day. Renesmee’s peaceful sleep filled the room with silence. She emphasized her beauty while she slept. I stroked her face and looked down at her stomach. I lifted her shirt without waking her. Her stomach had transformed overnight. It became flat and unblemished. No stretch marks or bruises were clear. I pushed her shirt back down and saw that she was still asleep. As she slumbered, I rose from the bed, only to have a firm hand seize my arm. I turned around to see her wide awake. “Where are you off to?” Renesmee inquired. “I’m getting Carlisle. I’ll be back.” I responded. Renesmee nodded, releasing her grip on my arm, and I exited the bedroom, searching for Carlisle. I walked through the house to the kitchen and saw Esme and Carlisle. Bella saw me as I passed the living room and approached me. “Jacob, how’s Renesmee?” she asked. “She is great. She’s doing well.” I responded. “How’s her stomach? Is it healed?” “Yeah, and it’s amazing how her stomach size returned to its pre-pregnancy state.” “Yeah, it’s for being a half-vampire. It happened to me, too, when I became a vampire.” I nodded my head. “Well, I’m going to see her,” Bella said. “Okay,” I said. Bella left the room. Carlisle looked up at me. I headed to him. He asked, “Hey, what’s up, Jacob?” “You should go check on Renesmee now that she’s awake,” I responded. “Alright.” Carlisle walked past me. I followed behind, trying to match his fast pace. We reached the bedroom. I saw Bella talking to Renesmee. They sounded like they were laughing. Carlisle walked into the bedroom. I smiled in the doorway. They kept talking. Renesmee looked at me with a sly smile when they finished talking. Bella noticed Renesmee staring at me. She glanced back at me, curious. She asked, “What’s going on?” “Nothing. We’re glad things are better now,” I responded. “Yes, so where is my baby girl?” I walked to Renesmee’s side and sat down. “She’s with Rosalie. She is bathing her.” Bella responded. Renesmee asked, “When can I see her?” “Soon, but you need to rest,” Bella advised. “I’m fine, mom. See.” Renesmee yanked the covers off her body. She swung her legs over the edge of the bed. She attempted to rise but stumbled, losing her balance. I ran to her side and caught her. “It doesn’t seem like it, Renesmee. Feeling good doesn’t mean you can walk. After having a baby, you can’t walk. You can walk tomorrow,” Carlisle explained. “That’s all day. I don’t want to stay in bed. I’d rather hunt and see my daughter,” Renesmee shared. I sighed. “Can I bring Sophia to you later?” I asked. “And if you’re hungry, I’ll fetch you some blood,” Bella offered. “Okay,” Renesmee said to both of us. I set her back on the bed, and then Bella walked out to get blood, and I sat beside her. Carlisle left as well. “You need to rest, Renesmee,” I told her. Renesmee sighed and said, “Okay.” “Hey Renesmee, want to go to the living room?” I offered. “Sure, I’d prefer not to stay in this room all day.” I scooped her up and cradled her out of the room. Bella walked over to us with a curious expression. “Don’t worry, Bella. I’m carrying her to the living room and laying her on the couch. She aspires to be where everyone else is,” I responded. Bella nodded and followed me to the living room as I sat her on the couch. I then put a pillow behind her back and blanketed her. “Thanks, Jacob,” Renesmee said. “You’re welcome,” I said. Bella gave her some blood, and she drank it fast. I can’t help but widen my eyes in amazement. “Wow, Renesmee. You must be hungry,” I exclaimed. “I haven’t eaten since giving birth and passing out,” Renesmee explained. I nodded, and Renesmee handed Bella the empty cup. As Bella left with the cup, I saw Aunt Rosalie walk by with Renesmee’s baby, wrapped in a blanket in her arms. I smiled and glanced at Renesmee, who was turning on the T.V. “Hey, Nessie,” I said. “Yeah,” Renesmee said. “I’ll be right back.” Since the baby is here now, I promised Renesmee I would bring her the baby. I left the living room and discovered Rosalie in the kitchen, soothing the baby to sleep. I walked over to her, and she looked up at me. “Renesmee wants her baby,” I mentioned. Rosalie nodded, got up, and walked over to me. I opened my arms, and she placed Sophia in mine. Sophia opened her eyes, and I smiled at her. She had her mother’s eyes, which were dark chocolate brown. She giggled, making goo-goo noises, and she smiled at me. I looked up at Rosalie, who was also smiling. “She already likes you,” Rosalie mentioned with a smile. “You think,” I said. “Yep, look at her. She’s glowing.” “Yeah, well, I better go.” I walked into the living room to see Renesmee staring at the T.V. I said, “Renesmee.” Renesmee lowered the T.V. volume. She said, “Yeah.” “I’ve got a surprise for you,” I announced. “What is it?” I circled the couch, and Renesmee saw the baby. Renesmee smiled. “Aww, you brought her,” she exclaimed. “Yep,” I said. Renesmee sat up and opened her arms so I could place her in them. She held her close and sat back on the couch. I sat on the couch next to her to look at her, too. Renesmee’s P.O.V As I cradled my baby girl in my arms, I couldn’t help but admire her stunning features. She was so beautiful. She had my eyes, face structure, light brown hair, and skin color. Unfortunately, she did not have my lips or nose, but I wish she did. I touched her cheek with my finger. I said, “She is beautiful.” “Yeah, she resembles you. She’ll blossom into a lovely woman.” Jacob remarked. “Yeah, I hope so.” My baby girl moved her tiny hands, and I grabbed her little hand with my finger and stroked it. She had the softest hands I’ve ever touched. She then grabbed my finger with her hand and tugged it, and what surprised me was her strength. “She’s tough for a little girl,” I commented. Jacob smiled and said, “Yep, she got it from you.” “Speaking of her, what should we name her?” I asked. “Oh, I forgot about that. Have you decided on a name for the baby?” “Well, I thought of some names.” “Then what are they?” “What about Sophia or Ava?” Jacob smiled and said, “I like both.” “Okay, if I choose, I like the name Sophia. It will fit her well,” I said. “Okay, then Sophia, it is, and what will the middle name be?” “Hum, how about Marie? It came to my head.” “I like it too.” “Okay, her full name is Sophia Marie Cullen.” Peering down at Sophia, we saw her eyelids fluttering as she dozed off. She was so cute when she slept. I then heard footsteps and saw mom and dad walk in. They walked around the couch and sat on the chairs next to us. “You look wonderful with the baby,” Mom complimented. I nodded. “She’s already attached to me. It’s like she knows I’m her mom,” I explained. “Yeah, they recognize the mother by the voice when they are in your stomach,” I nodded. “So, have you picked a name for her yet?” Dad inquired. “Yeah, her name is Sophia Marie Cullen,” Jacob responded. My mom and dad smiled. “It’s pretty.” My mom said. “Thanks, mom,” I said. “You’re welcome. Can I hold her?” “Yeah, sure,” Mom walked over to me and opened her arms, and I put Sophia in hers. I then lay back down with my legs on top of Jacob’s legs. Mom exclaimed, “She’s beautiful! Sophia resembles you so much!” “I’m glad she’s like that. I won’t see their same face features,” I said. Jacob stood up in response to the silence. He said, “So I better get going.” I grabbed his wrist and asked, “Wait, you’re leaving?” “Yeah, I need to get home. My father is making dinner for Charlie and me,” Jacob responded. “Oh, alright.” I let go of his wrist, and right before he left, my mom spoke. “Jacob, before you go, how is Charlie?” “He is good,” Mom nodded, and Jacob stared at her, curious. He asked, “Why?” “Nothing, I’m curious.” Jacob nodded his head and then left. For the rest of the night, I held Sophia and fed her. Grandpa told me that, as a half-human, I could breastfeed her, which surprised me. Sophia was also half-human, so I only fed her human food until I wanted to teach her to hunt. After the movie, mom and dad walked in. “Rosalie will take care of the baby until we have a crib,” Mom assured me. “Could she sleep in my arms? She sleeps better there.” I said. “You could hurt her.” “Mom, I’m her mother. I would never, ever hurt her.” “Okay, fine, but I’m carrying her to the cottage as your dad carries you.” “Alright.” Mom opened her arms, and I gave her Sophia. Dad came over to pick me up. We departed from home and headed to the cottage. When we arrived at the cottage, my dad carried me to my bed and laid me down. Then, my mom laid Sophia down in the middle of the bed. She asked, “Are you sure you will be fine with her?” “Yes, I will be fine,” I responded. “Okay, well, goodnight.” Once mom and dad left, the closing door echoed through the house. I pulled the covers over us, cocooning Sophia in my embrace, ensuring her safety.
