Indi’s P.O.V.
I walked over the borders of the Grey pack, the pack that was now under attack by us, the Black Blood pack. I looked around and tried to swallow past the growing lump in my throat as I already smelled blood in the air and knew how these people were being slaughtered by ours. But to my own surprise, I didn’t spot that many wolves or corpses on the ground. Meaning that either the people living here had run for it, or they were in hiding somewhere safely, and up to this point, our men had not found them. Which was a victory in my book. I yanked my head to the side, as I heard a woman screaming, and frowned as I completely understood what that poor woman was going through right that second. I understood how scared and alone she was feeling right now. I understood the pain she was going through. At one point in time, I had been her. s**t… I still was her!
“Pet.” The Alpha barked at me, making me turn my head to face him.
“Tell me where this witch is.” Alpha Dimitri spoke to me, to which I nodded once.
This is it.
This is what we had been working on for weeks. And it all comes down to this one moment in time.
A dream
A stupid, f*****g dream…
A joke, really!
One day, Alpha Dimitri had woken up from his sleep, stating that he had had a dream, a vision. A dream about the war that he was planning against the Denali pack. But this time, he had been winning the fight. And beside him had been a witch, a girl named Samantha. A girl with shorter black hair and pale blue eyes. A witch, just like me, only much more powerful than I would ever be. Now, God only knew how many people Alpha Dimitri had placed on the task of finding her ever since having that dream, but somehow, Alpha Dimitri had used most of his money from selling people on the black market, and he had used it to pay the best trackers and private detectives in order to look for this witch called Samantha. And sure enough, they had found her, living inside the Moanne pack. Only a couple of weeks ago.
So of course, Alpha Dimitri by that time, had become so consumed with finding this witch called Samantha, that he had immediately planned an attack on the Moanne pack, in order to grab her just like he had taken me back in the day. Little did he know that by the time we would arrive there, this witch called Samantha, was already gone. Moved into another pack, the Grey pack, at least that was what the Alpha of the Moanne pack had told us, while Dimitri was breaking nearly every single bone in his body, before he finally was killed off. Taking the witch called Samantha’s father as collateral, in case we would need him in the future to get to her. And so, we had moved once again, our plan easy to do. Go to the Grey pack, get this witch called Samantha, and leave again, so we could focus on the real deal, the war against the Denali pack. A war for which I didn’t even know the reason for starting it. A war I would not be fighting myself if I could have it my way. And by the way I was feeling, how I was slowly growing weaker and weaker by the day, I knew I would get what I wanted for this one f*****g time. Because by the time Alpha Dimitri would reach the borders of the Denali pack, I already knew I would be dead somewhere.
“Find the witch.” Alpha Dimitri told me again, to which I closed my eyes and I started to focus as I tried to use my magic in order to connect with this girl who shared the same powers as me. For once, I was actually thrilled to be able to use my magic. For once, I could use my magic to connect with someone, and not hurt someone else. I smiled lightly as I felt her. I was also in awe as I felt how powerful she really was. It felt as if I kept walking into a window, something that was preventing me to keep moving forward to get closer to her. This witch was blocking me, shielding me. So, I did the only thing I could think of. I started screaming at her at the top of my lungs, hoping she would be able to hear me.
*Samantha, please, stop!” I screamed into nothing, being met by silence and no response back from her. So I frowned and I tried again, speaking the words Alpha Dimitri had told me to tell her.
*Samantha, Stop! We have your father here with us. Alpha Dimitri ordered me to get you here, or he will kill your father if you don’t come out of hiding now. Nobody needs to die today, the choice is up to you. It’s only you he wants. It’s only you he needs.” I stated, feeling a pang of hurt in my chest, the wolf part of me that wept over the fact that she understood how she would get replaced by someone else. And that’s when I finally understood. This girl, this witch named Samantha, she could be my salvation! She could be my ticket out! She could save me! And just like that, like flipping the switch or lighting a candle, just like that… my hope had been restored. Even more so, when I felt how out of nowhere, the shield dropped and I could sense the presence of the other witch, the girl named Samantha.
*Who are you?* And I couldn’t help but smile, once I had heard her voice. She sounded scared, but also nice. A trade in a voice I hadn’t heard in what felt like forever. And somehow, now, I couldn’t wait to finally see her in person.
*Hello Samantha, It is nice to finally meet you. My name is Indi.* I told her, unable to keep the happiness out of my own voice, as I reconnected with her.
*Samantha, I need you to come out of your hiding spot, please. Alpha Dimitri only wants you and he will back off. It will stop a lot of bloodshed today, if you just surrender yourself to him now.* I told her, hoping to God she would just accept and come to us. I knew Alpha Dimitri, and I knew he would not stop until he would get what he came for. Which was her, the witch called Samantha, my ticket to freedom. At least… I hoped.
*How can I even believe you? For all I know, this is just a massive trap, and you will still kill everyone once you have me.* Samantha answered me, and I frowned, understanding where she was coming from. And not being able to tell her that she was wrong. Because I was with these monsters all the time, I knew more than anyone how they always lied and didn’t keep their word.
*Honestly, you don’t know for certain. But I do know Alpha Dimitri, and he is a man of his word. And if you do not come out of your hiding spit, many people will die today. And in the end, he will still find you, Samantha. These people don’t have to die. They don’t have to suffer.* I told her, giving her the only truth that I knew. The truth was that these monsters wouldn’t stop until they would have her. And if I wouldn’t deliver, I would get punished for it as well.
*Why me?* Samantha asked me, to which I swallowed, feeling myself turning tired.
*I don’t know all the details, Samantha. I am just a pawn in his game. Just like you are. But I know that by coming and handing yourself over to him now, that it will save lives today.* I answered her, before I was yanked to the side and I immediately lost my focus and the connection that I had made with Samantha.
“WHAT THE HELL IS TAKING SO LONG?” A growl roared into my ears as I tried to duck and shield myself, which was no use. Instead, I was greeted by Alpha Dimitri’s eyes that were shooting daggers at me.
“I made a connection with her! She is here!” I cried as I felt how the Alpha’s hand curled around my throat and he lifted me up, my feet dangling from the ground as he choked me.
“Alpha, we cannot find her if you kill your pet.” I heard someone speak to Alpha Dimitri, and even though I couldn’t see because the tears in my eyes were making my sight blurry, I could hear the voice and understood that it was his Beta, a man just as evil and wicked as Dimitri himself. And just like that, my feet came back on the ground, and I gasped as I tried to refill my lungs with some much-needed air.
“Where is she!” Dimitri yelled at me, as I prepared myself to get beaten, but his hand didn’t make contact with me when I looked up into his eyes.
“I told her to come here. I told her to hand herself over to you.” I cried, before I turned myself to look at the ground in order to breathe better, my heart broke as the wolf part of me started to understand that her own mate had just tried to choke us with his bare hand. And once again, I hated how that made me feel. I hated how I felt sad over this man and the way he had treated me again.
“find her!” I could hear Dimitri call out orders to other wolves before their paws dug into the earth and they started to spread and run all over the pack grounds. Some of them growled Samantha’s name as they searched for her.
“If you lie to me, you will be dead by the time that I am done with you!” Dimitri growled at me, while my heart was torn apart and all I could do was cry for feeling what I was feeling. Heartbroken by the treatment our mate was giving us.
“Come.” Dimitri suddenly spoke out of nowhere, and very much to my own surprise, reached out his hand to me. Unable to deny him, I took his hand and I let him pull me up. Hell, I even doubted if I spotted some form of apology in his dark eyes. Or maybe that was just the wolf part of me that was hoping to one day get an apology from him, knowing that it would never really come. His wolf might have some sort of feelings for me, the man, the real monster, he held nothing for me. He only looked out for himself. He let go of me and started walking, knowing that I would follow him. I had been with him long enough to understand that that was what he wanted from me. In the corner of my eye, I also spotted his Beta and Gamma following him, meaning that they had found something, and all of us were needed to see what was going on.
shit!
They either found the pack members
Or they have the Alpha…
It has to be something like that…
SHIT!
I kept following the three men as we made it out into a clearing. And my mouth dropped, as I looked at the scene in front of me. People were all lined up, all sitting down on their knees, some of them were crying, and others seemed to be so in shock that they simply couldn’t move. Most looked like women and older people. The young men who would be able to fight were probably already dead. But I gasped as I looked in front of me and locked eyes with a woman who had pale blue eyes and shorter black hair, and once our eyes locked I sensed it, I felt it, I knew it. This was her, this was the girl who was going to save me! This was the witch called Samantha! This girl, was my savior!
