“What the f**k is this?” Alpha Dimitri asked as he looked over at his Gamma, who -at his turn- leaned into him as he whispered something I couldn't quite make out. Probably telling him that these were the last survivors they had found inside this pack of werewolves.
“This all you could find? From an entire pack?” he asked the Gamma both in wonder and anger, who nodded once in return, which didn’t make Alpha Dimitri look very pleased. Not pleased at all. And I could only imagine what kind of punishment he would have for his own Gamma later on tonight once we made it back to camp.
“Where the f**k are all the fighters? The warriors? The highly ranked ones? No Alpha leaves his pack without leaving anyone highly ranked behind.” Alpha Dimitri asked out loud, looking around at the women and older people that were lined up in front of him.
“So what? We have a few old farts and a hand full of women? Where the hell is their Beta? He was supposed to still be here!” Alpha Dimitri shouted as he became angrier by the second. Probably making notes in his head over who would all get punished over this massive mistake that had been made on our part. We had our people on the lookout all the time, our people knew who was all inside the pack at all times, and yet, we hadn’t been able to find them anywhere. And as I looked back and locked eyes with the black-haired girl, I simply knew that it was all her doing. She had placed these people under her magical protection. She had hid them somewhere, somehow.
And no way in hell was I going to tell Alpha Dimitri that I knew…
I looked around the clearing, as I heard the people sitting all around me starting to scream and cry, while others begged for mercy, because Alpha Dimitri started to play his mental games, and he started to randomly kill innocent people, hoping to get answers from others.
“How many women are here?” He asked his own Beta, who started to count the younger women, including the woman that I knew was the witch that he was actually looking for.
“7” The Beta answered Alpha Dimitri shortly after.
“Which ones are marked and claimed?” Alpha Dimitri asked again, as he walked towards the other end of the line, inspecting all the remaining men and women who were still sitting in line on their knees.
“What’s your name, girl?” He asked the first younger girl that he randomly walked past.
“Josephine.” The girl in her late twenties cried out in fear. Her black hair was pulled together in a messy bun and she was wearing glasses with a pair of leggings and a sweatshirt. She looked as if she was just at home when the attack had happened, resting, not knowing what horrors were coming her way.
“Anyone interested in a new mate? The first one to take her can keep her.” Alpha Dimitri shouted towards his men, an evil gleam coming into their eyes as they looked around at all the women who remained sitting in line as if they were nothing more but a piece of meat to them. And all too soon, a man stepped forward, grabbing the poor girl by the waist as he pulled her up from her knees, dragging her behind him as he started to walk deeper into the woods. Probably doing to her what had happened to me so long ago.
Hurt
claim
mark or kill… and I couldn’t even say which out of the two would be better at this point…
Other women were being pulled out of the group by men as well. It was only when I saw someone grab the witch, that I was finally pulled out of my funk, and I could finally react.
This girl is my savior.
I need her to get out!
I need her!
And yet… being fascinated was what I could use best to describe this moment in time. Because I was pretty certain that the man who had just grabbed the witch, had done so to take her and mate with her. And yet, the claiming marks on her shoulder were very much there… light as day. This witch was already marked by another wolf.
then why on earth is another wolf trying to take her?
Can’t he see her claiming marks?
Is the witch somehow masking her marks in order to survive?
“Don’t touch her!” I shouted, as I walked over towards her. I could feel Alpha Dimitri following me like a shadow, probably wondering why on earth I had just shouted against one of his own men. God only knew I had been punished for far less in the past. And yet, I knew I had to act right now. I had to protect this girl, this witch, Samantha.
“This is the one you are looking for, Alpha.” I spoke, giving Alpha Dimitri a quick glance before I looked back at the girl on the ground in front of me. Swallowing and hoping that Alpha Dimitri would take the bait and take the girl with us. I needed to get this girl away from the monsters. I needed Alpha Dimitri to want this girl, so in a way, she would be safe from the other men.
“Is she the witch?” Alpha Dimitri asked me, so I nodded back at him. The wolf part of me wept as I saw the interest in his eyes over another woman.
“I can sense her magic very clearly. Yes.” I answered him matter of factly. Looking down as my chest contracted with emotional pain once more.
“Hello Samantha.” I nodded at the witch next. Alpha Dimitri stepped over towards the man who was still holding on to the witch, Samantha, as if he wanted to have her, pushing him away with such force that he fell right on his ass.
“Keep your f*****g hands off of this one!” The Alpha growled, and that’s when I knew that I had finally gotten what I wanted. That my feelings got validated.
Alpha Dimitri does want her
He wants to have her
mark and claim her as his…
And my heart broke and I felt free at the exact same time. And I squeezed my eyes shut, forcing myself to focus on the good. Because, in fact, this was good. This was my golden ticket out of this place. Finally.
“Take her to my tent. This one belongs to me from now on.” Alpha Dimitri growled, and I didn’t waste one second, before I wrapped my arms around the poor girl, I picked her up and I started to pull her along with me towards our camp deep inside the woods.
“Good job, my pet.” the Alpha told me, as I nodded and once again hated the way he called me like I was an animal. Like I was worth nothing to him. And that only made it easier for me to turn around, walk away and force myself to get the hell away from this place. Away from this monster. Away from him.
“Where are we going?” the witch, Samantha, asked me as she looked at me, while we were still walking away from the horrors on our backs, and towards the camp of the Black Blood pack.
“The camp ground.” I answered her, as I watched her swallow while I guided her deeper into the woods. I felt the presence of another being with us, and as I looked over my shoulder, I spotted Reno, Alpha Dimitri’s Gamma, who was lurking in the shadows and yet following us to make sure we wouldn’t run. After about twenty minutes, we walked out into the clearing where the pack had set up their camp and tents were scattered around for the men to sleep in. I saw how Samantha looked around, assessed, examined.
Good
She is already working on a plan…
Let’s hope that plan has a part for me in it aswell…
It was only when I led her inside Alpha Dimitri’s tent and I guided her inside, that she turned around to face me, and to finally speak to me. The change in the air made me realize she had done something to this place in order for us to have this conversation in private. No nosy Nellies would be able to listen in on us, not right now. Not even his darn Gamma Reno.
“What did he do to you?” Samantha asked me as she looked at me in horror, to which I simply chuckled because my life had been such a mess lately.
“He took everything away from me.” I simply stated, because that was what he had done to me, in a nutshell basically.
“What is this? Where did you take me?” She asked me next, to which I looked back at her.
“His tent, like he ordered me to do.” I simply stated, because there had been no other choice, his Gamma would have punished us both, if we would have made a run for it. And by now, I was too tired for punishments. I hardly doubted if I would be able to survive another punishment at this point in time.
“What will he do to me when he gets back here?” Samantha asked me, to which I got catapulted back in time. To the night when he had come for me, when he had just taken me.
“I think the better question to be asking yourself is, in what way can you use your powers to throw him off, once he will get back. Just like you did back there in the clearing,” I stated. Thinking back to her sitting in the clearing. The way she had been able to make those men see something different from reality. And the way Samantha’s eyes grew, I knew I was talking the truth here. She just wasn’t used to someone figuring her out so fast.
“I don’t know how you did it to all those men, but I can see your claiming mark clear as day. But those fools, for a fact, they did not. Otherwise, they would have killed you on the spot. How did you do it?” I asked Samantha, intrigued by how she had been able to use her magical powers in order to distract the wolves.
What would have happened, if I would have been able to pull off something like that?
Maybe if I could have done it, I might had been able to escape…
“Hallucinations.” She answered me, and I sighed deeply because, for the first time in ages, it felt as if I could finally be myself again, talking to another woman about magic. About such a big part of me.
“I wish I could do that myself. Maybe one day you can teach me?” I asked Samantha before I caught myself on my own question.
Why on earth was I asking her to teach me?
Why would she even trust me?
Why would she take me with her?
“You can’t form hallucinations?” Samantha asked me, to which I shook my head. When Alpha Dimitri had taken me, I had been too young, my training as a witch wasn’t nearly done. And because of that, I knew far less than any other witch. Add the punishments and lack of sleep into the mix, and I could hardly use any of my magic anymore.
“Maybe I could have done it one day long ago, but ever since they took me away from my family, I have grown weaker by the day, losing my powers as well. These days, I can only use my magic for small things and only for a fraction of time. I’m not the same witch as I once used to be.” I stated, feeling Samantha’s eyes burning on my neck.
“He claimed you? Alpha Dimitri?” Samantha asked me, probably seeing the nasty claiming mark in the center of my neck where everyone would be able to see. I just sighed and nodded. Knowing my claiming marks looked massive and scary and nothing more but a big fat scar that a monster had placed on me.
“Yeah. He did it the first night that he took me. I believe it is his plan to do the same to you when he gets back, in all honesty. To have us both as his chosen mates.” I spoke, as reality sank into me when I thought back at seeing Alpha Dimitri in the clearing and seeing the interest he held for Samantha. My own words made me feel sick, knowing that this monster wanted us both in such a sick way.
“Why? Why does he need two mates? Two witches at that?” Samantha asked out loud, thinking along with me.
“Honestly, to bind us to him, forever. I hate that man, and I just cannot run away from him, because the mate bond wouldn’t let me. I am forced to stay with him. As soon as he would find out and he would just call out my name, the mate bond would force me to go back to him. I wouldn’t even have a choice.” I spoke out the truth, and along with that, my greatest fears.
Because how on earth, would I ever be able to leave this man?
When he held such a strong hold on me?
How can I leave this monster behind?
When I hate him and I love him at the same time?
