Maddie’s Point of View
“We made it,” Juno said, looking at my distracted face.
A rustling sound caught Juno’s attention, and when we turned to see who it was, it was Ajar emerging from the shadows. This time, he appeared in human form, and he moved towards us with a sense of urgency.
Ajar’s eyes were deep as he spoke, his voice hushed. “Some of the Gamma are already at the ceremony and the elders are fast asleep, while others are still in the mountains, praying to the Moon Goddess.”
“Good,” Juno said. “Have you called Kendall to inform her that Alpha Alphonse has given orders?” He posed a question again as he looked around and added, “I already mind-linked her, but she’s still not showing up. If she doesn’t arrive in five minutes, it’s time to take matters into your own hands and pick her up--”
“I’m here,” a chilly voice came out of nowhere, causing goosebumps to rise on my skin. I could hear the soft steps approaching us from behind. As the woman drew closer, the scent of expensive perfume filled my nostrils, making me feel uneasy. “He didn’t inform me about this,” she said, her eyes scanning me up and down, assessing me. She gave me a piercing side-eye, making me feel like a trespasser in her territory. “Seems like a fish out of water for you to claim she’s Alpha Alphonse’s fated mate.”
“Are you serious right now, Kendall?” Juno’s lips curled into a sinister grin, revealing his sharp teeth like a wolf in disguise. The sound of his low growl reverberated in the tense atmosphere. The scent of sweat and shun filled the air as he confronted Kendall. “Are you doubting us or questioning the Alpha’s decision?” Juno’s intense gaze bore into Kendall’s. “Either you are challenging our credibility or disputing the Alpha's choice by your actions. Which of the two are you speculating about? Make your pick, Kendall.” He demanded; his voice laced with a hint of menace.
As soon as the woman, whom they referred to as Kendall, bared her fangs, and let out a low growl, I felt a chill run down my spine. Her sharp claws were visible, glinting in the dim light, and I instinctively took a step back. These people, or rather, these creatures, were not like anything I had ever seen before. I couldn’t help but wonder if I had somehow stumbled into a nightmare. Desperately, I pinched myself, hoping to wake up from this surreal experience. I would have preferred to be dealing with Mrs. Taylor’s incessant reminders about my rent p*****t, rather than facing these unearthly beings.
“Juno, don’t bite off more than you can chew!” She grumbled.
“So, are you,” Juno sneered, his eyes narrowed, and his lips curled with contempt. “In my book, you’re still the old female beta, a member of this wolf pack, no different from the rest,” he continued, his voice dripping with disdain. The feeling of tension and hostility was palpable, as if a storm was brewing. “You may have fooled everyone into thinking you’re the Alpha’s mate, but now the real deal has shown up. I reckon your sham reign won’t last much longer,” he concluded.
“What the hell did you say?!” Kendall’s voice boomed like a clap of thunder, startling me. Her eyes were wide with rage, and her fists clenched at her sides as she prepared to pounce on Juno, who had dared to speak out of turn. Nonetheless, Ajar stepped forward, blocking her path, and holding her back with a firm grip on her shoulder. The air was charged with tension, and the adrenaline hung complicated in the air.
Kendall struggled against Ajar’s hold, her muscles tense and ready to strike. “Cut me loose, Ajar!” she demanded, her voice dripping with venom. “I’ll give that beta a taste of his own medicine so he can zip it for good!”
“Hand over the key and let the true Luna lie to rest.” Juno rubbed salt on her wounds. He reached out his hand, anticipating getting something to hold. “Luna has been standing for quite some time now, and I assume you should show her some respect. Although I let it slide this time, I can’t allow it to happen again in the future. Now, hand over the keys, pronto!”
“Juno, you’re really pushing my buttons, you son of a gun!”
Juno’s face was beaming with delight, revealing a broad grin that stretched from ear to ear. As I observed them, my mind was as blank as a pristine sheet of paper. The silence was thick, and I was playing the waiting game when, suddenly, a voice as bossy as can be and as rough as sandpaper shattered the stillness.
“What’s the commotion here?” The sound echoed and bounced off, leaving my ears ringing. And just like that, a man materialized before our very eyes, as if he had been conjured out of thin air.
It’s that man again. Alphonse.
“Alpha Alphonse, it’s high time you showed your Beta the ropes about respect!” Kendall gave Ajar a little shove and tidied up her dishevelled clothes. “I’ve been biting my tongue for ages now, but who knows when I’ll finally snap and kill him?”
“It’s ironic that you’re talking about respect, yet you can’t even show it to Luna when she’s standing in front of you. Let’s dive into the world of hypocrisy, where actions speak louder than words and characters wear masks to hide their true colours.”
“I was just making sure what you’re saying is true, since Alpha Alphonse didn’t inform me about it!” Kendall spoke in a calm and composed voice this time.
As I looked at her, I couldn’t help but notice how stunning she looked. Her eyes were the color of melted chocolate, and they glistened in the light. Her skin was smooth like silk, and I could almost feel the softness of it just by looking at her.
I could see the curves of her body that were nothing short of perfection. It was like looking at a work of art that had been sculpted by the gods themselves. Her hair was long and luscious, cascading down her back in waves. It smelled of lavender and honey. If I stared at her for an hour straight, I wouldn’t even blink. She was a sight to behold.
"They're saying the truth, the one right in front of you will take the title you have right now," Alphonse coldly said.
