Chapter Five
Time seemed to come to a halt after that. It slugged along slowly, as if it were a frozen river. Gray was in critical condition and no visitors were allowed. Kristie spent hours lying in bed. Her mother and Lionel told her to wait for their call, and she couldn’t battle her way into Gray’s room, so she stayed home.
The only thing Kristie could see whenever she closed her eyes was Gray. She could picture his still body on the pavement, the blood underneath him. The cops said it looked as if he had been beaten but they had no other details. Kristie knew that it had to be the Infernos. They must have heard he was back in town and wanted him out of the way.
Armand had tried calling her three times since it happened, but Kristie couldn’t find the energy to answer any of his call
