Phil’s POV
Things were strange in here—supernatural! It was hard time to believe it but gave me goosebumps when we were almost there; at Edward’s place. Temperature dropped drastically, windows fogged and everything froze just like some movie effect. Damien said this happened because Tasha’s father was here.
Like really? I can only imagine than how strong her father would be.
Man! He really can influence the weather but another shock came when Damien just… just disappeared right in front of my eyes.
My jaw dropped staring at the empty passenger seat until Zac called my name.
“I bet we should stay back till things cool down a bit.” His voice shook as he was nervous.
“Yea… maybe!” I trailed of not knowing what would welcome us there.
After waiting for what felt like forever, we turned to face each other giving meaningful glances. Nodding, Zac started driving to cover the remaining distance. As we came closer, the scenario revealed another story.
There was a layer of ice on the walls and the next moment, a blast of light happened illuminating the surrounding. With thumping hearts and churning stomach we dashed inside hoping things were still in control.
As we barged into the house, the doors were locked. Running to the sides, we tried every window hoping it was open. Time seemed to drag on but I couldn’t find any way. There was complete silence inside and it was not a good sign. Miraculously; no, I must say… as expected the ice had melted and now the glasses were adorned with running water droplets.
Finally and fortunately, we found one!
Sliding the glass door, we jumped and entered into a room (more that of a child) as we ran inside. There was pin drop silence and the temperature inside was hotter than outside. It started becoming normal and we searched around for Damien and Edward.
Immediately, Damien’s voice reached us scaring the s**t out of me. I saw Zac jolt in his place before raking fingers through his hair. We caught our breath before finding him not long after. He was kneeling on the floor with Tasha in his arms as the sight melted my heart. I halted and watched them with admiration.
Would it be weird that even with this huge age gape; they looked perfect! She was a child yet she had the same love radiating as of Damien. And let me tell you, he was the happiest right now.
There was no tinge of guilt, regret, constant blaming and no exhaustion on his face. Only now I realized how much he had been through without her. He appears to be revived holding her in his arms.
Things were fine until Edward came storming out of the room bringing me back to reality.
Of course! This would be happening.
“Hey!” I called to catch his attention and wanted to laugh at his stupefied look.
He regained himself before nodding and gesturing us to take the place.
“So… You guys decided to snitch on me, uh? Good…” He said bitterly laughing while we tensed hearing it.
“It’s not like that.” I interjected sternly.
“Oh yea? Then how about explaining you accompanying him here?” He mentioned ‘him’ with utter annoyance.
“With pleasure… actually it was him who found her and we just tagged along thinking you guys might need some help.” Zac answered shrugging his shoulder.
Edward gave us skeptical look before getting convinced.
“But I don’t want him to hang here longer.” He complained as we remained mute not knowing how to answer to that.
“Let’s go home.” I offered him the only option I had.
“What?” he baffled.
“You heard me the first time. Let’s go back to NY. I think that is the only right thing to do—” I said casually and politely but he decided to cut me off.
“I know the right thing is to stay and not going back to the place where I lost her! It was a bad omen from the start. It’s where everything happened and that isn't what I want her to go through again!” He said without a pause as I stared at his heaving chest.
“That was in the past Lachlan. If it had its cons then there were pros as well. Why are you turning a blind eye to it? Think about it. It was the same place where she met you, your friendship grew into something so amazing and it was the same place where you’ve lived all your happy moments.” Zac explained as Edward opened his mouth to argue but he showed his palm to gesture him to stop.
“Not just that, it was the same place where she found a new life and I wonder if you’re just going to let her hard work drain through the pipes?” Zac decided to go for emotional blackmail.
A smirk appeared on my face knowingly where it was going.
“Her business is awaiting and I don’t know how you’re gonna explain this to her? Isn't it true that she remembers things and people?” Zac asked as Edward stared at his pointed shoes weighing the options.
“Not only that. You’re overlooking at one fact—you never lost her but gained much more than you could’ve thought of. See it like this, you got Tasha all to yourself and she had taken a rebirth which means; more chances to correct prior mistakes.” Zac informed.
“Infact, this is her second chance to master her powers in order to protect her and others. Without that incident, she would’ve been a mere ordinary too sweet and innocent girl to be able to survive. This has just given her a chance to be able to transform in a better version of her. So, embrace it and move on.” I suggested watching him rub his face with the palms.
“Also, come back for your company; friends and Rose.” Damien added entering the living room with Tasha still in his arms.
Edward glared at him but then sat uptight as if considering everything.
“Rose is really missing you. You must come to give that woman some metal peace. She is worrying about her every day yet she holds on to the promise you gave her.” Damien continued.
Edward sat there lost in his thoughts while I stared at the child sleeping in Damien’s arm.
His eyes watered and Zac stood to pat his shoulder.
“It would be easy for everyone if you’re back.” Zac finally let go after putting the nail in the coffin turning back.
Each of us stayed like this until footsteps sounded. We lifted our heads to see and found Emma coming with drinks and snacks.
“Breakfast will be ready soon...” She announced asking if we wanted to make any special request.
We thanked her and accepted whatever she’ll offer in the meal. My eyes remained hook on this woman. She was really amazing!
I could feel getting attracted to her. I had a little crush on her since I last time we were here. This is one of the reasons why I was adamant to accompany him. I wanted to see her. The time apart just confirmed to me that she was more than just a one-time thing.
Mustering up the courage, I turned to Edward and asked.
“Will she be accompanying you?” I asked pointing my head to her direction.
Edward narrowed his eyes at me and slowly nodded.
“Nor that I have still decided but if I chose to… she will!” I explained this to my friend who seemed to be as bored as me.
Yes!
