Chapter 6: The Mulberry and Camellia Scent

1602 Words
After the little incident, Mr. Scrouge was displeased. He waited to talk to Edward but decided to leave for now. Maybe he can give it a thought first. While he left another thought nagged him—she was the daughter and childe of the Dark Master. This fact was threat to them. He understands the childe-sire relation well and knows they are heavily influential. He hopes this doesn’t result in a war between the humans and the vampires. Edward shouldn’t have hidden her. He knows he did because they’ve cited Dark Master and his coven searching around the city breaching the pact. Although, they objected it but no one really dared to provoke him because he wasn’t harming anyone but finding his daughter. Sighing loudly, Mr. Scrouge headed to the airport to fly back to US. On the other hand, Damien had informed Leina about his trip. Since Leina is his secretary she was surprised to see him take on vacation because he never did that. Despite of that she managed to book a flight for him and send the deets before heading back home. She saw Katie flicking channels absentmindedly. Heading inside, she placed the keys near the door and walked towards the couch slumping on it. Her mind stuck on the usual request by Damien. “Lei… what are you thinking about?” Katie asked her putting down the remote and turning to face her. “I-I dunno but Damien is going to Guadeloupe.” She answered tiredly. “So?” Katie was unsure as to where this was going. Leina sighed and faced her. Katie had grown her hair to the lower back and straightened them. Her ginger colored hairs were soft and shiny and while her hazel eyes stared back at her with those heart shaped lips twitched. “He is going on for a vacation…” Leina answered incredulously. Katie gasped and shook her head quite dramatically. “Is that true? Does that mean he is becoming his old self?” She asked curiously watching the green-eyed blonde with full lips and round face intently. Leina shrugged in response. “He sounded determined though. Should we check?” Considering it for a moment; Katie nodded as their eyes twinkled. After a year and few months; they were about to use the magic they gave up feeling unworthy. However today they had a nagging doubt. As they quickly rushed to their rooms grabbing the journals with key notes regarding spell; they returned back to the living area to discuss which spell would be best. While browsing through the journal, Katie halted at the ‘Location’ spell. Leina was watching her and felt bad. She can see clearly that Katie was still stuck in the past. While she averted her eyes being reminded of that night; Katie hesitated to try it at least once to find Edward. It was the 27th January 2019 when Edward was last seen. She can never forget that day where she lost two beloved people. Her sister and her love interest. She never expected Edward to run away like that without anyone’s notice. She had hoped in the past year and some months for him to be back; maybe just for once but he never did. She was upset and sad but couldn’t share this pain with someone else. She doesn’t want to even confess it to herself that she was eagerly waiting for him. She prays every day and night for his safety and his return but maybe god is displeased with her to ignore. Her eyes glistened remembering the chiseled jaw and rectangular face. His brown eyes, pink sculpted lips and slightly long brown hairs still imprinted on my heart without blurring. “Kate…” Leina called her pitying and cupped her hand with her palms. “You want to give it a try?” She asked making Kate nervous and excited altogether. She wanted to deny but she doesn’t have willpower to do that anymore. She had tired burying her emotions deep into her heart and right now she wants to let it go. Agreeing with her she excitedly ran to the backyard to pick up the herbs that were needed. Fortunately they maintained their garden and thus the herbs were ready on their hand. While they busied themselves preparing ingredients after they were done with the dinner; Gerald was already heading out to his seventh country to find Tasha. He doesn’t want to give himself a delusive contentment yet a ray of hope ascent in his heart. Just as he walked past the substation in the dark lurking behind the shadows—a strong smell which appeared familiar to him hit his nostrils. Halting in his place he held his palm in the air gesturing others to stop while he sniffed the air like a wolf. His eyes ready to pop out. He couldn’t be mistaken. The smell though mixed but there was still the familiar touch of mulberry and camellia scent was distinguished. He snapped his head in its direction and rushed half walking-half floating to find it. The scent increased and it enthralled his senses. He was close enough and frantically searched his surrounding to finally find an old man rushing in hurry. The man was fidgeting as if aware of their presence making him suspicious. His eyes narrowed and fixated on this 53 year old man. This man tuned dark jeans with black tees and grey blazer on it. The man’s black and grey hair was spike up while his short grey beard along with moustache well groomed. He carried some folder and watched his surrounding, while rushing. As he was about to turn in a corner; Gerald was ready to question him. With a lightning speed, he reached him but to his surprise the man stood there in a defending position holding out a silver dagger in his hand. Gerald raised his hands in surrender getting agitated at the sight of silver. “Put it down!” he commanded but the man lowered his dagger but not ready to let it go. “What do you want?” He asked watching Gerald vexed up. “We mean no harm, I promise! Just need to know something. Can you put that down because I won’t be able to hold onto my words any longer?” Gerald told through his gritted teeth. Regarding it for a while, the man withdrew his weapon and tucked it back in his belt underneath the clothing eyeing Gerald. It was better this way. Gerald sighed in relief and flew to the man scaring him away. “Who are you and what you do?” The man surprised to watch this young boy with such authoritative voice. “I am Ralph Scrouge; member of Vampire Hunter Council.” He answered as Gerald studied him to catch any lies. “Mr. Scrouge where did you come from?” He asked again but Scrouge refused. “Tell me who you are?” He stood there with trembling legs. “I am Gerald—the royal warrior of Dark Master Vincent and currently I can pick up the Princess’s scent on you…” Gerald replied sniffing him like a dog. “So, where did you get it from?” Gerald stopped circling him and came face to face having better access to his eyes. Scrouge was scared and wondered what would be the best reply to this but knew things can escalate quickly from good to bad. He is aware of the powers they posses and no doubt if they can figure the truth themselves. Maybe than they would kill me; he gulped thinking about possible outcomes they’ll face. “I-I don’t know what you mean but I visited Guadeloupe right now.” He wasn’t going to spill the beans. Gerald itched to pierce his soul a bit to verify the truth but from the energy emanated by Mr. Scrouge; he knew there was truth in that. He thanked him and snapped his fingers disappearing into the night’s sky leaving behind a trail of dark mist. The dark mist fogged and out came a determined looking young boy marching towards the long empty blood red and black themed hall to stop and bent on one knee. Placing his sword that had a holder of the bat clinged to it, in front with both hands on the holder; Gerald bowed to his master. “Master! We should leave for Guadeloupe.” He informed while lifting his head to find his master standing erect. In the blink of an eye; he was now mere inches away from Gerald with twinkling eyes. Master’s finger touched his chin to have better access to stare into his dead black eyes. Gerald nodded and let him see the memory of encounter with Mr. Scrouge. Master inched closer placing his finger under Gerald’s chin and lifting his head to get better access. The black and white images transferred from him to Master in a fast forward way and just as it ended; master let go of him. Gerald stumbled feeling light headed but managed himself quickly. Master gave him an appreciating look and beamed. “To the Guadeloupe…” He instructed as the coven wrapped their cloaks around them and vanished in an instant leaving a trail of dark mist behind them.
