Edward’s POV
A knock on the door grabbed my attention as I stood up from my chair and bee-lined to get it.
Without glancing at the intercom, I opened it because it must be a lost person asking for directions as nobody came here; not within deep woods.
My eyebrows knitted together to see an old man smiling at me. The pendant on his neck caught my attention making me welcome him nervously.
He was from the Vampire Hunter Council and his sudden visit makes me wonder if someone knows about her?
“Please be seated Mr. Scrouge.” I faked a smile and he returned.
“Mr. Edward, the council sent me to discuss something important. Sorry to have barged in without prior notice and at this hour.” He pointed out at the dusk.
Nodding my head, I called for Emma.
“Emma, this is Mr. Scrouge from the ministries. Mr. Scrouge this is Emma Johns; a family friend.” I introduced them as they shook their hands politely.
“I’ll be back with something.” She beamed and left.
“Is she your love interest?” He asked eyeing me as I baffled.
“No!” I yelled but cleared my throat before composing myself.
“I mean- no. She is a friend of mine; a best friend to be precise.” I cleared away the misunderstanding as he chuckled.
“Oh Okay no issues. Anyways, I doubt you know me. I am your father’s partner in his work and last time someone reported about this certain- let me see…” He pulled out a manila envelope before going through the paper once and turning to face me.
“Ha- someone reported about this Tasha who was a vampire yet lived in our territory under your nose. As per the reports; you were in-charge of that area and argued against her but unable to furnish any supporting documents.” He crossed his hands on his lap before leaning close to me.
“So, have you enough proof now because they’re planning to execute you.” He said concerned.
“I understand that Mr. Scrouge and appreciate your concern but I did send my proofs. Would you mind waiting?” I asked as he nodded urging me to take my own time.
I went inside the study as Emma went to the living room carrying a tray of snacks and coffee. I quickly pulled out the folder and hurried back calling out Emma.
“Yes Edward?” she asked skeptically.
“I want you to check on Tasha and make sure she’s here will you?” I requested as she nodded.
“Is everything alright?” she asked uncertainly and I just nodded.
Watching her rush inside I prayed she wouldn’t be tired by Tasha. Tasha can be stubborn at times and worse? Her recent transitions worry me when Emma is around.
Heading back to the living area I handed Mr. Scrouge the evidences which he accepted while going through it. His face had a deep frown making a V in between his eyebrows and lips twitched.
He went through them silently as I awaited his response. I wouldn’t lie that I was nervous. He shut the folder placing it back on desk and removed his spectacles lost in his thoughts. From the corner of my eyes I saw Emma trying to catch my attention.
Raising my eyebrow as in ‘what’ I watched her fidgeting looking torn between whether to come and tell or not.
“This is unbelievable!” Mr. Scrouge stood from his place and paced the floor length with hands clamped to the back.
“Where’s she?” He halted asking me.
My eyes automatically landed on Emma asking the same question. She gulped staring between us before passing a nervous smile.
“She’s coming.” From the way she played with the hem of her tees side; I knew Tasha has created some trouble.
“Let me get her!” I informed making my way back to the room where she was.
“Princess!” I knocked on the door but the room fell into silence.
Wondering what that could be I barged inside seeing her stand there, smiling innocently but what caught my eye was the ripple that faded behind her. As if the air was had thickened and acted like a water surface. Going towards it I tried to touch it but the air was thinned and I got nothing in my hand.
Turning around I found bewildered Yuri and it displeased me.
“How did you get inside?” I demanded an answer but he didn’t answer nor glanced at me.
He was busy glaring at Tasha who seemed unusually jovial. Shaking my head, I held her hand taking her with me only to halt at the doorway.
Squatting down to her level I took sharp intake of breath before staring into her deep brown eyes.
“Princess, there is someone outside wanting to meet you. Promise me you will be my good girl.” I offered her my palm as she gave me her puppy eyes.
Hoping she can keep her promise unlike the last few times I waited till she finally gave in placing her tiny hands in mine.
“Promise…” she mumbled and I took her to the living room.
Mr. Scrouge and Emma were in some conversation when Tasha ran to her and stood there near the table waiting for her permission eyeing the food served on the table.
I wanted to laugh at her because she doesn’t eat much but loves to tastes each and every thing she sees. Emma shook her head giving her a stern look which made Tasha turn back to me giving me those puppy eyes.
“Hi there… aren’t you such a cute little thing.” Mr. Scrouge nuzzled her neck scaring her a little.
“I’m your great uncle Tasha. Say hello…” He offered his hand to her but she stayed still watching him suspiciously.
“Princess, say hello.” Emma encouraged her but she remained silent before hesitatingly shaking her hands with him.
Mr. Scrouge flinched and yanked his hand from hers. He was about to curse but stopped himself.
“She-she’s way too strong.” He commented nursing his hand.
Laughing at them, I picked her up and made her sit on the couch across from him. Emma held her hand assuringly while she snuggled into Emma’s side.
Her eyes fixed on Scrouge making me worried. Mr. Scrouge on the other hand was amazed as he discussed about her. He promised to put a word for her but I doubt if Tasha can restrain her any longer.
Her eyes were turning pitch black and Emma was terrified stealing glances at her. I saw Tasha tighten her grip on Emma’s arm while she swarmed in her place.
Mr. Scrouge had no intention to leave while I was nervous watching her lively face turn to stone cold with the air chilling around us.
“Uh… Mr. Scrouge? It’s time for her to sleep if you don’t mind.” I informed as he gleamed and stood to nuzzle her chin.
“No!” I yelled scaring him away while Tasha leaned forward sniffing him.
Emma took the hint and pulled her up placing her on the shoulder.
Fuck! No…
Before I could’ve pointed it out, Tasha was already sniffing her. Emma turned around on her heels as I saw Tasha burry her nose in the crook of her neck.
“I-I am sorry but you’ve got to leave Mr. Scrouge.” I didn’t want to be rude but he was taking unnecessary time.
Maybe he got the whole ordeal as he nodded asking me to not bother seeing him to the door.
I heard a scream stunning us in our places. Mr. Scrouge dropped his folder and umbrella running to the source as I followed behind him.
Pushing him aside, I ran to see Emma crouched on the floor while Tasha flew up in the hovering her. Yuri stood between them glaring at her competitively.
“Get down!” he commanded but Tasha was floating in air emotionlessly.
“This is me- Yuri! Your brother; Yuri. Are you going to defy me Tasha?” He asked gently as she flew to him and faces inches apart.
Yuri and I gulped in unison maybe along with others. It was a thrilling moment seeing the dead pan look on Tasha’s face; hunger evident. Yuri was scared but didn’t back out. He touched her cheeks lightly and we saw him grimace. His fingers pulled out but cupped her cheeks again staring at her lovingly.
“My sweet Tasha… You’re such a good girl; my sister. I know you’re hungry but you aren’t this; the person you are right now is protector and not destroyer.” He cooed but it worried me because I don’t think that was working.
I stepped ahead but Yuri showed me a hand hinting me to stay wherever I was. Emma stood watching them with shaky legs. Tasha was staring straight into his eyes as I saw his face unfazed.
“Yuri…” Her voice deep and seductive made me gulp again.
“Yes sister… I’m Yuri… your superhero.” He grinned and I broke into sweats when Tasha raised her hand and brought it to his neck.
It was a nerve wrecking moment standing there and staring in anticipation. I hope she doesn’t do something she’ll regret later. I know she doesn’t want to but then again, she is a whole-new person.
Her fingers caressing his neck and it somehow made me jealous. Surprisingly, he was still unmoved.
“You don’t want to this sister… You are a very strong person; just like me.” He had still cupped her cheek while raking his fingers in her hair with other hand.
The moment was lovely if the situation was different.
She stilled and moved closer covering the distance between them and her lips inched to his. I was already on my heels to save Yuri who stood there with confidence.
She cupped his cheeks and pecked his lips before pulling away.
“Yuri…” She repeated his name like a prayer.
My breath went rugged as I felt my heart fall in a pit. He escaped it; he f*****g escaped this. Shaking my head in disbelief I kneeled on the floor exhaling in relief.
“Brother Yuri…” her emotionless voice chirped as I snapped my head to watch him holding her by her arms; up in the air.
She laughed as he revolved her around in the air and she flew giddily with her arms extended to her sides.
He had brought her to his face and rubbed his nose to hers.
“My Supergirl.” He cooed and I smiled watching them.
This man was seriously something. He can easily tackle her when others are ready to piss in their pants. I don’t regret letting him train her but then she was becoming difficult with passing time and it would be selfish of me to harm him in the whole process.
